I don't agree that in 10-20 years colombia will be in better shape than the US. I know colombia is a great investment but they are also in a 40 year war with these ass FARC. Long life sentences for murder,drugs and kidnapping..time to set an example for everyone - colombians and gringos or whoever. Can someone educate me on why colombia can get tougher in the courts? I'm in favor of throwing criminals in a cage with animals and she how tough they are without a gun. I would love for the US to do that to guys that rape and kill kids.

Mike19 comments on What's your reccomondation for calling a colombian cell from the U.S.? I called Medellin alot from ny with a calling card. It was a general card for $5 bucks. If you are going to call alot check how much it would cost you for international calls on yout cell phone plan.

Mike19 comments on U.S. media lags in covering Latin America I live in New York and i agree that the news on Latin America should be more positive than the negative stuff that might arrive. I'm sick of watching hillary talk nonsense. I never been but want to tavel to several latin america countries and explore my vacations each year. As far as Iran ,Iraq and Pakistan ummm no comment....I'm a survivor of 9-11 and don't care for traveling to those places.

Mike19 comments on WARNING: Spirit Air I go to miami alot and have never flown with Spirit but my friends have. They said it's real cheap but the airline sucks. They cancel flights all the time and have you stuck and the planes have broken seats and are filthy as a zoo. Not sure how cheap prices are but fly and check it out....I won't :) My friend took a flight from ny to miami for like $75 bucks and the plane and seats were a wreck.

Mike19 comments on Tipping in Colombia - What do you guys do? wow - first time i'm hearing about tipping too much could cause safety problems. When I go to South Beach Miami and San Juan Puerto Ricoeach year I always tip the bartenders $20 bucks to start. I get hooked up all trip. I take care of them and then the bill turns out ot be nothing when I run a open tab. I can understand what eveyone means!!!

I'm a survivor of 9-11, I worked in tower 2 that morning and I say get out of Iraq and lets concentrate on opening trade with Colombia and Peru. I guess we do it to only help oursleves and he don't give a shit about the people in colombia. I can guarantee you that if you are a ally regardless if its cocaine , military aid or whatever we would help. It seems an ally will always get negative remarks in this thread.

I think gov't within other countries should really step it up and have less voice on America - that sounds like sitting on the sidelines and waiting for the USA to me.

I'm talking about the thought and contribution. I'm in finance and talk to many countries each day and Japanese people don't even know where colombia is when I told them I might want to visit for vacation. Again, I never said that we are the most generous or the largeset donors like you brought up?? How much does other countries contribute to colombia??? You are making it a know fact by constanly saying things about america did this and has done that and is the smallest donor of this? You don't hear me say NOTHING about colombia or what it did or should do...thats' the truth and reality.

Is the USA the smallest donors in that sense? Listen, I know our gov't or any gov't is not perfect but the countries you mentioned barely sent one military plane when it comes to fighting terror. Italy woke up later on...

Mike19 comments on I just wanted to say that I enjoyed reading everyone's comments and suggestions. I'm a gringo that lives in New York and has never been to Colombia. I'm a survivor of 9-11 that morning in the world trade center - tower 2 70th floor. I made it out by 5 minutes (half a block away). I can't imagine the magnitude of going through that for years in colombia like ernesto mentioned. I don't agree, but I know that the USA does portray Colombia as a warzone through Hollywood movies and cnn.com. But the people know in ny know that crime is everywhere and I could get killed coming home from manhatten by train for my wallet. As far as tipping goes, I travel alot to Puerto Rico and South Beach Miami and I'm always give a very good generous tip. By no means I do it to look good and show anyone up - I do it because I know people work hard and I'm on vacation to have a good time. Taking care of someone with tips means they take care of you with extra drinks ;). But I would consider that when traveling to Colombia even though it might be taken out of content. I've read alot about Colombia the past 2 years and heard it's a beautiful country that has got a bad name for years (especially in USA). I met this colombian girl in ny when she visited and she was the nicest girl I dated and talked to in a long time. She wants me to visit her in el poblado medellin but to be honest I would be a bit worried about my safety. Mike
