I can tell you what i had to do to renew a Visa de Negocio (NE) for the first time.....and here is a tip, next time ask for a 2 year renewal, because if you dont, they will only issue the standard 1 year renewal. i need to renew mine for the 3rd time in june of this year. I dont go on PBH much theses days as i am really busy, but i do check in to see how much attention i still get from some PBH Buttmonkeys.....and to get some great laughs out of it....but, i will call you and tell you about my experience, although i am not an expert, i have gone through it before......

CG.. a friend of mine stayed at Las Americas during thanksgiving week....paid $140 per night with breakfasts included.....basic room at the Hilton is over $330 a night.....dont use the Las Americas website.....call directly and make the reservation or have a local do it....usually much cheaper........ Per person for Isla Rosario is 70,000 pesos RT....not sure if lunch is included, but i think it is.....leaves at 8am in the am.....45 minute boat trip

i havent been inside Isis, but some Canadians told me they got charged $90 USD for a liter of vodka.....they also have a entourage of the strippers led by some wannabe pimp dude all in white, and they parade around the plazas in the evening passing out fliers......most of the girls need to enroll in Jenny Craig classes....jajajjaja.....or quit eating at the McDonalds in bocagrande.......

elmo, i hope to take the fotos tonight, then tomorrow i **hope** to be able to take possession of the container contents....the container arrived last tuesday in perfect condition, with no humidity damage or movement at all.....BUT, the items have been stored in the huge warehouse at the port, and maybe i can finally get them out....where are you right now, elmo? in the US or BAQ?..i moved to Colombia in November......just in time for the great CTG weather around Xmas time.......Everyday is an Adventure! jajajaja.

hey billyb! still trying to get the contents of my container unloaded and shipped to my apt and office.....you would not believe the nightmare this process is.....i will give you a call when i get to the office......i had colombiamike and his nephew over during the last weekend...he will be coming to CTG tomorrow, which is the **latest** scheduled pickup date, to help with the delivery..... one other thing, i advertised in el universal for a bilingual receptionist/secretary ( i need about 4 more employees).....the ad ran for 10 days, and i was emailed over 450 resumes.....yikes!!!!!!!! when are you coming to colombia again?

Kata..i tried to get costavision internet access in the walled city, but was told by costavision it is not available yet......so, as far as i know, Telcom is the only option you have.....you get a local phone number with or without national calls, and you can get the internet access.....Telecom also has their version of the Triple Play in an agreement with Telefonica.....telefonica provides cable television, and telecom provides the phone and internet....send me a PM if you want additional info.....i dont have much time to spend on pbh these days, as i just relocated to Col last month, which is really keeping me busy.....

my office is in one of the taller buildings in the walled city, so the direct line of sight should not be a problem....also, are you aware of any T1 type internet connections available in the walled city of CTG? i have several PCs and i need more bandwidth....the commercial lines of Telecom are just not cutting it...i am thinking i might get something equivalent to a T1 using the WIMAX towers...your thoughts?

at PepeA......are there WIMAX towers in/near/around Cartagena? i looked at your link, and it seems to be a chat forum only.....does this company provide WIMAX equipment, hardware/software etc? i currently use vonage with Telecom DSL in the walled city for my office and it works excellent. I also use Cable in El Laguito and is works just as well.

i am currently using Kamino Shipping in So San Francisco...if you want their contact info let me know, as i have that handy......pretty good company so far, with one slight glitch....they had to Fedex the Bill of Lading to my office in CTG. i need this to prove i own the stuff..l.without theses documents i get to go fly a kite.... they were supposed to get them to me before i flew to CTG, but that didnt happen......they did arrive within 5 days, SF to CTG.....

Aztec...i would be more than happy to assist anyone from what i am learning once it is over...so far everything is going as planned and expected....the only thing causing me some apprehension is getting the 40' cargo container through customs, as noone will offer any kind of estimate as to the cost of everything for unloading, bribes, taxes, fines, and final loading/delivery to the apartment and office. That will be an adventure in itself. That will occur after December 10th sometime, as it takes 30 days to go from Calif (Oakland) through the Panama Canal to Cartagena......we shall see, as they say!!

I spoke with the shipper and they dont even offer any insurance other than "total loss" which he says if the friggin boat sinks....=(...and he claims to know of no 3rd party insurance people who offer that kind of theft and damage insurance..... Doug, did you ever have any problems with moisture damage? ie, shipping a cargo container by boat from California to Hawaii there is a real problem with humidity and rain water damage....they suggest buying the silica cargo container bags to absorb the moisture..i have a friend who suffered major moisture damage to her wood furniture which actually warped!! her bedroom set was a complete loss!

They told me that the inside dimension for the High Cube were 7'Wx8'Hx39"D. and the Standard Cube were 7'Wx7'Hx39"D...which doesnt sound like what you are referring to, Doug......does that sound right to you? They are still working on estimates on them for me......

Thanks for the help, CG...i am interested in companies who can ship freight items using a pallet system, high-cubes, Less Than Full containers, etc. Things like household items, furniture, workout machines, BBQs...definitely not the UPS small package type stuff....The plan is to order the stuff online while in Colombia, have it delivered to my sons house in Dallas, and then he will arrange to have it shipped via the Houston port to Cartagena.....I dont think it will be a full cargo container each time,....this will be stuff that i would want to bring to Colombia if i cant locate it there......Appreciate the Help you guys!!!!!!!!!

Tomtom33...thanks for the information..i didnt want to have to travel to MDE to locate things, but i will contact the CTG to see if they can obtain the items i locate on the website you posted. I intend to keep a place in Manizales as well, so MDE is not that far to go to find the things i need to get.... Eywed, i will be shipping a 20' metal cargo container (inside dimensions 19'x7'x7') from Oakland Californian to the Cartagena port. You pay for the volume of the container not the weight. So whatever you can stuff into that container they will ship (except for customs restrictions, of course, like ex-wives, etc...) They will drop off the cargo container at my storage place in the south bay, i load it, then they take it to the port at Oakland. Shipped by boat to CTG via Panama Canal. The shippers only get it to the port and that is it. Cost: Door to Port $3620. I then have to arrange to get it removed and through Customs, and arrange for delivery to my office and apartment. Not sure exactly what that will cost, but i would imagine the moscas will take their bite as well!!!!

Brians...i use Vonage VOIP in my office in CTG, and it works until the internet access/electricity goes down, which is not infrequent in the walled city. i have a Vonage business acccount and a Vonage box at my place in Calif. I call my manager a couple times per day and the cost built in to the monthly charge, so no unexpected huge bills. I dread the day when the manager learns that calls to the US from the CTG Vonage phone are built in as well.....then everyone in the office will be trying the "free" calls to the US....=(... With regards to selling everything here and buying in Colombia, you will find that many, and i say MANY, things available in the US are very hard to find in Colombia. For me, it is easier and makes better use of my time, to pay to ship what i have and what i have purchased in the US (better options, quality, availability, state of the art, etc) versus spending the rest of my life shopping for what i want in Colombia or traveling to other cities to get it. For example, i spent almost 2 weeks looking for a upper-end Canon printer in both BAQ and CTG to no avail. all i could find was the low end ones which cost about $69 in the US. So on my next trip i brought one as checked luggage. Most everything could be available in Bogota, perhaps, but then you pay the higher cost and then have to ship it to where you live. So, for me its spend a HUGE amount of time looking for the "just buy it there" items, or pay a shippper to ship exactly what i need and and keep the nice things that i already have. For me, thats a no brainer....but others may have a different opinion.....also, if you sell your US stuff, you will be lucky to get a dime on the dollar......many times. ..

Elmo, when i get a free moment, i will email you what i have learned....but keep in mind the ones i researched were West Coast to Colombia shippers....i would imagine that NYC, with its huge Colombian population, would have several companies shipping to Colombia. I think you were talking earlier about relocating to Barranquilla, and they have their own port so you dont have to worry about transferring the items inland at all. MC

Doug, that info was from the Transpak website who ships from California to Colombia as well....it was included in the section which lists prohibited shipping items ....which means i will cant ship my ex's remains i found out...jajajaj....just kidding..she, unfortunately, is still alive and kickin....me! jajajajja.....
