I live in strata 5 Belen. to duplicate a nice lifestyle in the states to here is not cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I live in Medellin. People coming from a nice house, or condo and duplicating that in a nice city is going to pay 6 or 7 hundred usa a month for rent. My utilities are high I admit but over 200 usa a month, internet and tv 110 dolllars a month, cell phone 90 bucs a month ok let me break down rent for me is 900 usa a month ( yeah I have a nice place) 1,800,000 cop expenses based on 2000 cop per dollar utilities 220 usa internet and phone 110usa cell phone 90 food 600 usa taxis 250 to 300 usa entertainment 200 usa girlfriend clothes, her gym etc 200 my gym 25 usa a month trips to usa, visa, lifestyle 600 usa As you can see I am running about 3,000 a month expenses. I am not living like a king it is equivalent to my lifestyle in the states except my apartment is better then the states, I dont even drive a car but taxis are expensive if you are dating someone and paying for their taxis ( this is a fact of life when dating colombianas) Food at supermarkets is more here then in the states for lesser quality. Also if you buy electronics, cars, anything imported tack on 20 to 40% more then same thing in the states. So everyone saying they are living on 1500 a month usa here are just living thats it. They are not living like kings as some would suggest. They drive a cheap car or no car, average apartment if its a strata 5 or 6. ( certainly they are not renting a nice house in Poblado for example) Dont have a full social life, dont travel to other places outside of colombia much. If you own a house or apt here free and clear that can help with expenses a nice house in Poblado will cost you 300,000 usa or more though My current lifestyle would cost more in the States, and I certainly dont want to move back there. So many more pluses then minuses to living in Medellin. I just want to illustrate that you are not going to live in a nice place, a nice area, and live a full exciting life for 1500 usa a month count on 3,000 a month to live like an executive, 1500 a month to live like a minimum wage earner in the states who works at mcdonalds and lives at home. All you need to know is basic merengue and salsa here around 8 classes and you are good to go. girls here dont know much more then that usa salsa useless here pretty much, they dance differently and wont change for you. No job opportunities for americans except teaching for 10 bucs an hour english for a few hours a day maybe. you will need 3000 usa a month to live here in a nice apartment in an equivalent lifestyle to states. The only thing cheaper here is real estate, taxis and healthcare. food, electronics, cell phones are more you can get a student visa for 6 months to a year and renew it again till you leave need a place to stay look me up

Have to be honest there really are no really good restaurants in Medellin as far as the quality of the food, they are just average when you compare them to a good restaurant say in the states. I miss ihop, and soup plantation believe it or not while living here. For great ambiance though check out Tony Roma's in Poblodo on top of the Dan Carlton hotel. White linen table clothes and piano music, revolving restaurant like space needle. Best views in Medellin and all for the price of a parque lleras meal. Food equal to best in Medellin but again, comparing it to other restaurants in Medellin. Best place by far in medellin for a romantic date also. Price is around 25,000 to 30,000 per person cop and wine is around 35,000 per bottle cop

Robert is a nice guy. I live in Medellin his price is reasonable for a penthous in Medellin. Yeah it is a gringo price. And so are nice hotels in Poblado, these run around 100 to 150 a night usa right now. They charge laundry, guest fees, often wireless internet slows to crawl, 50 bucs a night for a travler to stay in a nice apartment in Medellin short term is not expensive it is half of what a hotel will charge. Most foreigners visit Medellin for 3 to 7 days on first trip. When they decide to move here or get a long term lease then they have issues with buying furniture, agencies, hooking up utilities etc. Especially difficult for foreigners with little spanish ability. For last couple of years I was looking for 40 dollar a night places, your options are very very limited as a foreigner visiting Medellin. ( we are not talking locals who live here)

Heh its me the Madman yes I am real and I am booked currently through March possibly May. The problem with renting rooms in Medellin is if you are new to the city you are totally on your own. That is not the case when you stay with me. Of course if you are a veteran of Medellin you will appreciate the privacy a two story apartment offers and your female visitors will just love my place.
