airfares within South America

Hoping for a little help...
I'm returning to Medellín in August for a few days - hopefully to follow-up on job leads! - and am thinking about visiting a friend in Santiago, Chile.
I know it's a far distance, but I can't find a fare for less than $750 USD. Should I hope for better?
Also, there are better choices from Bogotá (and the fares are a little lower). Is it better to take a bus to Bogotá and fly from there or just stick to flights from Medellín?

Centro Colombo Americano Medellín

Hi all... this is an interesting site, but it seems to get a bit "mean" sometimes! I guess I'll just stick to the least controversial topics?

Planning on moving to Medellín

I'm new to the site but have been reading the messages for months now.
Just came back for a fantastic trip to Medellín and Cartagena. My better half is from Medellín and we are now looking into moving there within the next 2 years.
Of course, any opinions and advice are appreciated. I currently work as an administrator in a school for students with autism and am a certified special education teacher. Would like to continue teaching in Colombia.
