manjar comments on Considering moving to Colombia... what should I expect? Why not live in Panama City if money is no object to you. Panama is actually Colombia in many ways (Gringos took it to build the canal!) and there are lots of flights from Cartagena to Panama City. Safer in Panama. How about San Jose, Costa Rica? Tons of Canuc er Canadians sorry in Costa Rica. Just a thought eh? David, Panama along the border with Costa Rica en Chiriqui province is said to be a hidden gem. Cartagena would be fine if you live in the tourist section...what is it called again? There is only one way in and out and the cops military patrol that area. Their is a Colombian naval base there.

manjar comments on Lawyer looking for job in BOGOTA latpro.com might be of help. Funny, I read of people who end up working in well paying positions in their non native countries. They end up in Colombia, for exammple, by fate or Karma. They really don't choose Colombia it falls in their laps mind you. Then there are those like you who seek but cannot find. At least up until now. I would move to Bogota tomorrow if I I could make $50,000 a year there. How? But unless you are one of these persons of fate or you wish to teach English for $5 an hour you stay in your native country. So Colombians (Lots of ILLEGAL Mexicans?) run to my country, the US of A, and Canada and Europe where they can make what I earn but their countries are closed off to us Americans unless we arrive with money (US retirees for example?) It is OK however. I see the boys with the cart and the donkey pulling cardboard from the garbage cans just one block from the US embassy where the US government administers millions of US TAXPAYER MONEY to Colombia's government in the name of Plan Colombia and stopping drugs. Security guards all over the place and security cameras etc. Funny world. Good luck on your job search. Maybe you should check the law firms in MIAMI that may have offices in Bogota?

manjar comments on dollar dropping or peso rising? When I went to Colombia for the first time in 97 the peso was 1200 to the dollar. It was almost 3,000 when I was there in March of 2005 and 2300 in May of 2006. There is talk of a new Canadian, Mexican and American currency called the AMERO like the Euro. King Bush seems to be a player in this. The Republicans in the US are selling the country while the Democrats want to give it away. We are awash in illegal immigrants callled cheap labor while our US factories has been shut down and sent south and east. I don't like any of it but I see trouble for the US long term. This Amero thing or one single currency for Canada, US and Mexico does not seem so odd when El Salvador, Ecuador and Panama already use the Yankee greenback......stay tuned for more to come...

manjar comments on Yes, there are lots of attractive women in Colombia. This does not mean that all are knock out beautiful. If a foreign male wishes to spend $10,000 to bring a girl to the US or Europe than that is his right. If a Colombian girl wishes to leave Colombia by this method then that is her right. Colombians are making money with their marriage agencies. There is a market for this just like that illegal stuff. I suppose if the US embassy gave a visa to any Colombian senorita then it would dry up this marriage agency business. However, why do Colombian women jump on any American male just to get a visa? Is this not risky? Marriage/dating is a risk ANYWHERE. Accept this for what it is and get over it all ready. BTW VUP the marriage agencies were there before the internet!
