mandotech comments on Best way to send money to colombia!

I prefer xoom over western union. Their rates are less and they give a better exchange rate from dollars to pesos

mandotech comments on need to find sites to purchase DVDs online for someone in Colombia

mandotech comments on need to find sites to purchase DVDs online for someone in Colombia

mandotech comments on Where can I download Latin mp3's??

go to http://musicfond.com/ it is in Russian, but it is easy to download. Find the song you want, click. When you get to the next page, there is a big button on the bottom, click again. On the next page wait until the timer runs down -- left click on the mp3 option and save. also http://grammy.ru has many songs

mandotech comments on T-Shirt Submission finalists (in no particular order).

mandotech comments on Bogota taxi question

I have been given the "stink eye" plenty of times by taxi driveres for slamming the door. It always takes me a few days to get used to the lightweight of the doors here. (I am used to the heft of my car here in the states) But come-on, if a slammed door can wreck the alignment of your car's door, you have a toy not a car. By the way, I have never been ripped-off. All the drivers I have had have been honest and mostly polite.

mandotech comments on local aguardiente in bogota

I guess this is the Colombian equivalent of moonshine ;-)

mandotech comments on

mandotech comments on Going into a bank and withdrawing using a Debit Card

To Sephan --- I am in Bogota for 23 days. So this amont is not a lot. By the way, I am still looking for more ideas on how to have a fun time in Bogota for minimum money -- with family and fiance.

mandotech comments on How to have a good time in Bogota for minimum money ?????

This is funny, but not helpful LOL

mandotech comments on Rock music in Colombia

Are there any good rock venues in Bogota to catch local talent?

mandotech comments on tired of being ripped off, need a good deal on a apartment in Bogota

azunoman, I know what you mean about paying different prices. It always takes me a few days to get used to using a different currency. This week I went to pay for a few items and the clerk overcharged me. Luckily my girlfriend´s sister was behind me and made the clerk give me back some of my money. so good luck is right jajajaja

mandotech comments on tired of being ripped off, need a good deal on a apartment in Bogota

Cake, do you know of any places in the south or west that are renting? I really do not mind those areas. Azunoman, I know that there is an overhead to pay. I am just trying to find something that is a little more reasonable.

mandotech comments on hiring a driver for the night to andres carne de res?

I called Andres and they told me that between midnight and 3am there are many taxis that take dinners back to Bogota. I asked what the chances were of me being stranded. They told me no one gets stranded. If you need reassurance call them at 571-863-7880, I spoke with Claudia.

mandotech comments on tired of being ripped off, need a good deal on a apartment in Bogota

Thanks, but I really need an apartment since I entertain guests.

mandotech comments on Where to enjoy rumba in Bogota this Friday?

Isn´t Friday something special in Bogota? There are not some big parties somewhere?

mandotech comments on Where to enjoy rumba in Bogota this Friday?

any place in particular?

mandotech comments on hiring a driver to Andres Carne De Res

Are there an abundance of taxis leaving there at 3am? I would hate to be stranded.

mandotech comments on Bogota Bulfighting tickets/calendar ... info only pls

The only thing I am worried about is traveling all the way to Bogota and not being able to get ticket. Is this not a problem? Are there usually tickets and if so how early do you need to get there to get tickets in the shade (I hate the sun)?

mandotech comments on Map of Bogota

what is the best way to write the directions? I am not having good results. I will write Cl 123 No. 12 - 34, or Cr. 123 no. 12 - 34 and I do not get the correct directions.

mandotech comments on Gifts of Wine/Aguardiente in Barrio Alqueria, Bogota???

I may have to just send the money, western union, to my friends and have them get it themselves. It would just be nice to have things preselected.

mandotech comments on Gifts of Wine/Aguardiente in Barrio Alqueria, Bogota???

Not in colombia but other countries. I have never had a problem. Especially if I let them know I will be using their services often. Plus I mention that I am visiting the country very soon.

mandotech comments on Gifts of Wine/Aguardiente in Barrio Alqueria, Bogota???

What I have done in the past is give my credit card info to the store. Besides the name of the store, a phone number would be helpful.

mandotech comments on Unique gifts from Colombia?

Thanks Robert, but my grandfather already has the second shirt you mentioned.

mandotech comments on THE FIRST TIME YOU ENTERED COLOMBIA

Last night was my first time entering Colombia. When I went through customs, I was surprised at how fast things went. In about 10 minutes, I was out the door with my luggage. A few years ago I went to Cabo San Lucas. It took forever to get through customs. So this was a nice surprise. I was also expecting tons of solidiers because of the stories I have read. Of course, that was not the case. I arrainged for someone to pick me up and the first thing I did was get some aguadente, good stuff. I also heard that the drivers in Bogota were crazy. This was not the case, some drivers were aggressive but so what. Where I am from, LA and San Francisco, drivers take much more risks and drive MUCH faster. So far the people here are great. They are patient with my bad Spanish. Maybe because, I speak without much of an accent, my parent are both native Spanish speakers. Also many people have offered to help me when they saw I was a little confused -- ie, purchasing the aguadiente. As we were driving last night, I was surprised that the streets were relatively quiet. Once again, blowing away my preconcieved notion of the city. The streets of LA are way more intimidating than here. But then again, much of the intimidation in LA is just a facade. One thing that did capture my eye was that the cops always have their warning lights on or at least every cop I saw last night did. So far, Bogota is not like I imagined, I guess you cannot always believe what you see in the movies or 24.

mandotech comments on Unique gifts from Colombia?

Booze sure is a good idea, thanks. How about for non drinkers? or teens?

mandotech comments on

OK, now I want to try cuy. Where can you get them in Bogota? Preferably cooked. Webmanco, you never posted the address.

mandotech comments on GPS Maps for Colombia

teachenglish, the link does not work.

mandotech comments on

Yeah it is unprofessional. Sometimes the disrespect and constant finger-pointing drives some over the edge. Sarcasm can be the last resort of those who are desperate and trying to regain sanity. Personally, I love my students and understand the BS and politics that goes along with the job. How are the schools in Colombia? Do they have the same issues with students as the US? I still think it is funny :-)

mandotech comments on

Being a California teacher, I have to say that the biggest contributor I have my "problem" students are that they have parents who are afraid to be parents. They want to be their kid's friend, instead of loving them and making tough decisions. And perhaps -- oh my goodness!!! --- having their child hate them because they have to do homework instead of going out with their friends. This message is great. It will only offend those who are bad parents. Good parents will laugh because they know it is not directed towards them. Being politically correct instead of using common sense is what is going on out here is Cali.

mandotech comments on Do they legally sell coca candy in Colombia?

Yes, CocaCola does still use a cocaine-free coca flavoring for their soft drink. The cocaine has been gone since 1903. or so they say ;-)

mandotech comments on Soccer in Bogota

Thanks, I guess I will be watching the superstars of football on November 26th. I am looking forward to at least experiencing the crowds and the stadium. Not as intense, but still looks like fun.

mandotech comments on

We plan on having two ceremonies. One in Bogota and the other in the States. If I did not do that either one side of the family or the other would be angry at me/us. The way I see it -- it is double the party.

mandotech comments on How do you eat a sandwhich with fork and knife???

I bet they were on a first date :-) She will soon be scarfing down with both hands.

mandotech comments on Why I Hate America

I know many US players who rule on FIFA for the XBox 360. And by the way .... AMERICA WON!!!!!! 4-2

mandotech comments on Soccer in Bogota

Now that the weekend games are over, what does next weekend games look like? Which team will be playing in Bogota?

mandotech comments on FAST FOOD not a good deal in Colombia!

I visit a McDonalds at every city I visit. It is just a sick custom of mine. And yes, the meat varies. The reason is that McDonalds get their beef from only local sources. So far the best burger has come from Calgary, Canada. It had a deep rich beef flavor. The worse has been from Melbourne, Australia. The burger there had almost no beef flavor at all. Next week, I will be in Bogota and will continue my custom.

mandotech comments on Bogota June-August math teaching jobs?

There is not a program that is close to the summer school we have in the States?

mandotech comments on Why I Hate America

We have an American soccer team? OOOOOO I need to read things more carefully. The soccer team is called America. Yeah that is a lame joke. But it doesn't hurt to try. LOL

mandotech comments on

Kayak is the best site, I have found. They compare the prices of most of the other sites. I got RT California to Bogota for $501 for late November. I bought these in mid-October.

mandotech comments on Jewelery less expensive in Bogota or USA

mandotech comments on Soccer in Bogota
