I travel as a reward to myself, and I don't travel to the tourist areas, I like to see a nation for what it is, how they really are, how they live. I am also a huge history addict, for me to see what I read about my whole life, is a huge reward for myself.

I actually dedicate myself to putting all of my second cousins through college in Colombia. (I was very fortunate to get full scholarships for having competitive grades and high SAT's, and I understand that my cousins didn't have that opportunity in Colombia.) Right now I am putting 4 second cousins through college, my goal is to eventually put all 28 of them through college. My mother's family is very poor, and I try and help them out as much as I can.

I don't spend my time in hair salons, or getting my nails done. I am a very simple, down to earth girl. I always feel that when it comes to education, travel, and food, you have to invest money in that. No one will ever take my travel experiences away, just like no one will ever take my education away. I can only learn from eductaion and travel, and I feel that is what I am passing to people before I die.
I also know that many people in the U.S., Europe, all over the world are in poverty status, I am not rich...I am just very good with investing my money and how I spend it.

Colombia, and more importantly, Colombians occupy a special place in my heart. I have friends from several different countries and I am completely aware that individuals vary within each country. That friendship also enabled me to grow out of the individualistic nature of the culture that I was raised in. I have a deeper appreciation of my family, friends, and community as a result. He was like.... Actually, a couple young girls at work have been checking my butt, which I found odd.... especially, since these are those type of quiet girls that never ask anything out of line... But, they asked... "Did you get implants on your butt, that can't be real?"... That made me blush, it was right after a meeting I held in the middle of the floor and wasn't even expecting such a question.. I told them if I was going to pay for something that I would have atleast balanced it out, top and bottom, and not just bottom....

It is represents a moment in time that helped Vives learn to appreciate more the culture of his people on the coast and it is why he quit singing romantic songs and started singing vallenatos. I can return it, but only to exchange it. The problem is many are blurry as a result of transfering from video to DVD, so the new copies will have the same problem probably. I don't like telenovelas either, but I love vallenato music; also, I bought it to share with some friends who have fond memories of the series. That's funny that you like "cafe con aroma de mujer," my friend keeps begging me to try and find a copy for her.

The only time I get to eat ajíaco is when my friend invites me to her house and even then she usually prepares sancocho or bandeja paisa. Not that I am complaining, lol. At least there is a Colombian frutería here that has delicious drinks and some basic Colombian food: arepas, yuca frita, almohabanas, empanales, and sometimes tamales (tan ricos!!!!!!!).

All of this writing about colombian delicacies, I am going to go grab a jugo de lulo...cuídate!

I feel blessed to live in Oregon. While it is lacking a nice warm coast (Southern Oregon is pretty warm), it is beautiful and diverse. Mountains, rivers and lakes are all just a short drive from my house. It's nice to be able to escape a way from the city once in awhile. Even downtown Portland is green w/ a huge park running through it w/ miles of paths to hike or bike. Sometimes I think about moving to other cities in the US, but I quickly forget about it. Few places have as much to offer. Now, if we could just get a few more Colombians to move here!!!

I'm glad you are enjoying the music...those songs transport me right back to Colombia.

No worries about the delay w/ the email. I'm busy as well, so I completely understand.

i was looking up fincas en El Salaito, el kilometro 18 , 30 and El carmen (these are all on La Carretera Al Mar). Dapa is also nice, but too pricey for what you get, as the lots are priced in square meters as opposed to plazas and hectares. These are all in the mountains around Cali, as you probably would want an escape from the heat of Cali. Let me know if you are interested and I can hook you up with my cousin Ana Milena. She sells realestate and is always in the lookout for fincas there for me.

Look, I hope you did not get the impression that I was offended or that I was complaining about the avatar. Let me be very clear, I completely agree that it is harmless. Similar images are all over the place (television, magazines, movies, clothing catalogs, etc.). And I agree that it is a bit strange that people get so bent out of shape over seeing an image of a body...especially a clothed one.

MaFe...the older vallenato songs are filled with history lessons about the authors and their surroundings. Listening to them is like reading a poetic chronicle of a region. Knowing that many of the songs were essentially historical records is one of the things that attracted me to the music. It was a mesmerizing way to learn about the culture and people of that time and place. Also, when Gabo explained how cien años was nothing more than a 400 page vallenato I became even more interested in the genre.

Damn!!! I just deleted well over a hundred new photos that I intended to place in a new historical post or add to our old one. They were just bogging down my computer.

You could talk me into becoming involved in it, resuscitating it...jajaja; however, I do not know that many individuals search it out. It has been buried deep in the vault of old pbh posts. It would be nice if it had its own link where it could be organized into specific categories (i.e. Historical figures; cities: Bogotá, Cali, Cartagena, etc; Ads, etc.). But I do not see that happening and it would be a lot of work. If you are persistent, you probably could talk me into adding to the old one.
