Lucia Rojas comments on Are there any other gringas with Colombian boyfriends

Webmanco thanks for thinking of me... I was out for a while, travelling a little around colombia...and working, painting and just basically with no time to even get close to the computer. I will most certainly join you for the meet up in August.

Caulfield2, are you planning on coming to teach in Bogota?

Lucia Rojas comments on To Lucia Rojas

My cousin's son goes to Gimnasio del Norte and he is a very happy child... and since they have the IB then that means it has high standards; for a school has to complete all the requirements to get accredited and they get checked on every few years...

Lucia Rojas comments on To Lucia Rojas

Hi,
sorry for the delay.. I had been away. Well, it all depends on your budget and your educational needs. You can choose between American systems and curriculums, or English systems which implement the English National Curriculum. Most private schools in Bogota teach english. The intensity and whether it has expats as teachers make it vary. Some schools have full immersion.. which means almost every subject (except spanish) are in english: Colegio Nueva Granada, Colegio Gran Bretaña, colegio Anglo Colombiano... Others have the main core subjects or a choice of subjects (lang, maths, sci) in english: Los Nogales, Tilata, Portales,San Carlos, San Bartolome, Gimnasio del Norte.....
Accreditation is also an issue. You want a school with some sort of international accreditation for it to be valid it in different countries- IB ( International Baccalaurate) CIS, ASSC, etc. I am not sure any of the schools you mentioned have them.. All of these schools have very good web pages were you can find all information you need.

Size ia also something you can choose... Some schools are huge like Colegio Nueva Granada , or really small Like Colegio Gran Bretaña..

Anothere thing, children learn a language very fast, I see cases everyday of children who arrive with no spanish and speak it after a couple of months. How old is your child?

I hope this helps... Feel free to ask any questions and I will try to help as much as I can...

Lucia Rojas comments on Moving to Bogota

I work a t a school very close to yours... Its a school area, there's tons all over the place... and most of the expats at my school are placed in Cedritos... it is safe, nice, and close enough to school to not have to spend an hour on a bus.

Lucia Rojas comments on Didn't see it yet, so I'll ask...

Thankyou FG, I will be watching this week

Lucia Rojas comments on Didn't see it yet, so I'll ask...

golf and villegas I watched and read about golf this weekend for the first time ever, I had always thought it was boring... Now I understand a bit more and I can watch it and find it interesting, reading about it involves too many numbers and it is still a little complicated, I already understand most of the terminology but still dont get some things... any help you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated. For example, when a ball goes off the fairway, does the player get penalized? does it immediately mean that he´s gonna use more hits or can he still make it under par? ( I am still trying to get the jist of it, as I said it was the first time I ever watched it) When does the player get penalized? I really want to understand more.!
I am happy for Camilo and looking forward to watching him play again this week...I might just add golf to the list of sports like to watch!

Lucia Rojas comments on How come Colombians do not like pretzels?

and beer bellies.. almost all colombian men have one... jejeje...

Lucia Rojas comments on How come Colombians do not like pretzels?

Panaderia maxli. There is one on 85 and 20 close to the thransmilenio station..

beer..oh my god! Colombians drink beer like crazy.. it is not unusual to find places with tables full of bottles of beer to keep the count... Remeber, beer is the cheapest alcoholic beverage, unless you drink chicha, guarapo or homemade overproof rum in the coast...

Lucia Rojas comments on I removed the private messaging function

Colombiano X is going to have to come out from the PM world.

Lucia Rojas comments on Should I go to School in colombia?

I have a colombian university undergraduate degree and I have been able to work a broad in my field while furthering my education. This includes: Italy, England, France and Perú. I know tons of people who live abroad and have gone far with their colombian degree... of course pursuing postgraduate degrees have helped a lot of them even more. Colombian University education has very high standrds and you will find graduate students abroad who excell among their classmates because the had such good undergrad degree prep. It is not national pride, beleive me national pride is hard to have in this country sometimes... but If you choose a good university in Bogota or Medellin you will be focused toward being highly competitive internationally and you WILL be able to compete easily...plus the two language advantage will have you one step ahead of a mayority of the population in the U.S (who is not bilingual) and open more opportunities In the U S and abroad

Lucia Rojas comments on My colombian wife is going to kill me!

Check out Restaurante Mini Mal at 58 and 4th in Bogota... all those things that Lionheart is saying have been happening and are happening...of course they need to happen more.

Lucia Rojas comments on arabs in colombia

The Caribbean coast of colombia is where the most arab population arrived. the influence in the culture is huge... you will find many arab names, people who still speak arab in the streets and vendors selling quibbes... Suero Costeño a delicious costeño sour cream is the result of trying to make lebne in Colombia.... Lorica in Cordoba is amazing... people speaking in arab all over...Maicao, a trade city in Guajira is all arab and has the biggest mosque in the country.. people sit around all day and smoke Nargile.... its quite surreal... like being in another country.

Lucia Rojas comments on Useless topic but I didn´t get much sleep last night

And if you get burned with the little splatters of oil while you're deep-frying colombian style, you put a little bit of jabon rey on the burn and it dissapears... really I have tryed it...

Lucia Rojas comments on Colombian Jazz singer in Canada

"Often called the 'Male version of Diana Krall', Luis Giraldo is sure to soothe your soul with his mellow Jazz and Latin vocals. With sidemen that command the Canadian Jazz scene, Rick Kilburn (Dave Brubeck, Chet Baker) and Chris Sigerson (Campbell Ryga) will entice you with their delicious bass and piano playing. Pour yourself a drink, flip your mind-switch, sit back, relax, press play, and enjoy."

Luis Giraldo's debut, Day Dream, is a 50-minute journey through the silky joy of vocal jazz with a Latin Flavour. Colombia's loss is Vancouver's gain. The record features Chris Sigerson on piano and Rick Kilburn on bass. Although this chronicle contains many standards, Giraldo's Spanish vocals diversify the album for lovely effect. Gregory J. Lucia Rojas comments on Having a baby in Colombia

jeje.. sorry again, I become very defensive here... :)
I recommend coming and getting a few pediatricians recommended by close people and then visiting all the pediatricians, choosing the one you like and then buying the pre-pagada that is used by that same doctor. This way you get a doctor that you and your wife feel comfortable with and the pre-pagada to make his consultations really cheap.

Lucia Rojas comments on Oye Webmanco!!!!

Bush and Uribe bubble heads? i never saw that. What was it?

Lucia Rojas comments on Where to buy Used Books in Bogota

si Centro Cultural del Libro and all of the area sorrounding it. Right in front of the centro there is an excellent bookstore, huge, packed with books and you will find everything. Second floor of the centro right when you reach the top of the stairs is very good too.

Lucia Rojas comments on Is this Spanish punctuation or a Colombian thing?

hate mail? you crazy man! I just wrote, very nicely, asking you why you called me a bitch.. you read it anyway so thats what matters.... sorry you have a wife who doesnt know how to read or write... that is certainly not our fault!

Lucia Rojas comments on Is this Spanish punctuation or a Colombian thing?

Lucia Rojas comments on Is this Spanish punctuation or a Colombian thing?

but of course long sentences in spanish have commas too... if they are not putting them in.. it is because they don´t know how to write.

Laura Restrepo- Colombian writer

" Su tipo era el contrario: esas ranitas escualidas por las que nadie se tomaba el trabajo de volverse a mirar en la calle, que parecian quedar en la nada cuando de quitaban la ropa, que daban lastima por el crujido de los huesos al primer impacto, y sin embargo podian dejar listo para el cajon de la basura al mas hablador de los machucantes."
Gabriel garcia Marquez-- en los tiempos del colera...

all ong sentences... all with commas....

Lucia Rojas comments on Is this Spanish punctuation or a Colombian thing?

if your wife doesnt write well in english, it is not a problem of the spanish language
she just doesnt know how... teach her
and have her read a lot in english so that she can get the feel of the language... no need for the bad language dude. teach her. Writing in a foreign language is the hardest thing. Writing in french is nothing like writing in english... so... deal with it... and teach her
or maybe shes just dumbbbbbbbbbbbbb... run forrest, run

Lucia Rojas comments on Having a baby in Colombia

No, the truth is we dont have any doctors or medical facilities , or hospitals or anything.... no health services... plus nobody in Colombia speaks english and they are no translators....we still live in trees and women have babies on their own in the field.. the baby just drops in the middle of the plantation.........make sure you get a doctor that studied in the states, colombian doctors can't read or write plus they were not taught in the States, which probably means that no other education system works... as i said.. no reading, no writing, they do get a lot of hands-on practice with all the dead dropping around from the violence and drugs... ......................................

Sorry, had too much to drink tonight.and feelinmg abit sarcastic You'll be fine..Colombian insurance is good and cheaper than in the states...and... Colombian women have had babies for as long as they can remember. You will find very good facilities that will tend your every need. You will have a very lucky little colombianito(a) and you will find everything you need. i recommend getting a pre-pagada like Colsanitas that is part of Sanitas International... Check out Hospitals like Clinica del Country, Fundacion santa Fe, Fundacion cardioinfantil--- all very good places.

Lucia Rojas comments on Is this Spanish punctuation or a Colombian thing?

hey why wake it up? It is a spanish language thing. Sentences in spanish are longer than sentences in english... it will be hard to find anything with short sentences in spanish language. Read the quijote... whatever.. you'll find sentences that go on forever....french is also different, italian is also different... I dont get why you gringos question it so much... it is how it is... thats it.... dont start trying to change spanish laguage because you think sentences should be shorter...just assimilate... if you are asking yourself: "why do they write long sentences?, they dont know how to write" then you just havent assimilated anything in the language and you probably wont be able to write good spanish ever.........

Lucia Rojas comments on Colombian Culture - Women

is it really feminism that damaged relationships? or is it the fact that women changed but men didn`t? Not discussing feminism ( which doesnt completely satisfy me).. it just seems that one gender underwent changes and the other stayed the same... just like when when growing up, that girls always develop faster than boys in so many ways... Men in the Staes have to change too, to be able to relate to this different kind of woman...but some are really sacred of changing and others have just decided that they dont like women after all....jejeje
the logical thing would be that if women underwent change in which they became more in contact with their masculine side/ energy, men have to become more in contact with their femenine side/energy... (and it has no relationship to homosexuality at all) just the femenine side.... but men think that makes them seem less of a man..... I don`t know... I don't even know if I am making myself clear... its just something I have thought about a lot, I am not trying to pick on anyone or anything...
