Anyone care to give me their analysis. Two things I know to be NOT true is that there is a shortage of crude and that there is a shortage of refining capacity. With no end in sight of rapidly rising prices where will it end? Shopping for floor tiles yesterday a distributor told me that the rising transportation costs are beginning to make domestic products competitive with foreign products. A lot of the tiles I looked at were made in Colombia, Brazil, and Italy. He has already altered his ...
Ok we all hear the stories and read about some of them. Of course we all remember Lorena (A life is worth more than a penis) Bobbott who cut off her husbands penis in a fit of rage. And who can forget Clara Harris the Colombiana who ran over her husband five times in her Mercedes. So is it to be expected? I personally have not encountered this latin rage. I'll post this in the friendly talkzone; but, perhaps it should be under "war". t ...

Okay, heres the deal. We (my paisa and I) are seriously considering moving to Colombia as soon as she gets her US Citizenship. I am looking for some good recomendations on where to live, based on the following criteria... 1. I have spent most of my time in Medellin and Bogota and find them both okay; but, would prefer a rural setting within say a one hour commute. 2. We have a 3 year old so education is a factor. I am thinking a small apartment in the city if needed for education purposes. ...

On a previous trip to Medellin we cancelled a trip on the advice of our trusted taxi driver and went to a park in Rio Negro instead. So when an opportunity presented itself this trip I jumped at it! Later a brother-in-law called my wife to say we were crazy to go there. This time I was determined to go and my wife just sighed and replied, "Okay, just don't cry to me when the guerillas put a lasso around your pelotas and are leading you through the mountains!" The one asking about the going rate for putas in Colombia. I mean they are a fact of everyday life and the locals take great pride in the fact that prostitution is legal. I was driven past them and had them pointed out on two different tours? I was just curious. t ...
Under FRIENDLY talkzone or RENTING selling & meetups; but, how much does it cost to bump uglies in the putarias in Colombia. They openly acknowlede prostitution and it is legal. Heck on my four hour tour of Medellin they drove past the puta's downtown who to my surprise were displaying ALL their goodies on the street in broad daylight. Later on our tour through Periera they proudly drove us past all the MOTELS. I gotta tell you they looked a lot cleaner and well kept than most of the HOTEL ...

Well last night my wife tells me she has to renew her cedula. My inquiry as to why she didn't do that while we were just there for three weeks induced a frosty atmosphere. I assume she will have to appear in person at the consulate with a photograph and give a fingerprint. Can anyone confirm the exact proceedure? t ...
I am hearing from several different sources about a government sponsored housing program in Colombia. I have yet to find someone who can intelligently talk about it. The rumor is that the government is building homes for low income people for 28 million pesos and then paying for 14 million pesos leaving the home owner to pay for the remaining 14 million pesos? Does anyone here know anything about this. I am expecting a financial windfall and could afford to help some of my relatives...possibl ...
Or so my wife thought. It was a day on which our host could not drive his taxi; something about the pollution regulations and the fact that his vehicular plate ended in either an odd or even number. ENTONCES...we all decided to travel from the barrio to the candaleria using the Transmilio. We caught a bus near our apartments that took us to the local transmilino station. I think they are pretty much on opposite sides of the city. I never studied a Bogota map; but as I recall it was pretty ...
If I have got this correct this link should take you to some photos I took at the termales. In other posts some people seem to have reservations as to the safety of traveling there. We went and I felt safe. That does not mean we did not have any close calls I just never observed anything that made me nervous. My wifes brother thought we were a little crazy for going. Who knows? So there we are in my sister in laws home. There were a lot of us for sure. It is in the barrio 12 de October and one of the lower strata barrios. But my brother is law is quick to point out that it is safe here. He points to a neighborhood on another mountain near and tells me he used to live there and it is bad there. (Barrio July 21?) After spending a week in Bogota we arrived at our hotel in Medellin and found it did not match up to what we were told. Sooooo we scouted and located better quarters. The lady needed the money at check in so we had to do some banking. Off to the trusty Exito and three withdrawals of $400,000 peso and all set. I can't recall now exactly what my wife had to do but I decided I would wait outside. What ever she was doing took longer than I expected and I got thirsty. I strolled down the side t ...
I returned from Colombia and a three week visit late last night. I have thousands of photos and hundreds of stories to show and tell. I will start with an encounter that occured in the middle of my trip. So I am up and ready to go early; I can't help it, it is how I was brought up. It is maybe eight and I bored to death and chomping at the bit to go and see some of Colombia outside of our Laureles apartment. Hi,
My wife and daughter and I will be travelling to Medellin in the last half of August or beginning of September. We are interested in an apartment for 2-3 weeks. We would like a two bedroom or three bedroom.
Poblando or Laureales is our preference.

I know that in the past there was a great deal of difficulty and long wait time to get an interview for a non immigrant visa. However; the US embassy in Bogota is currenty indicating a typical five day wait for an interview and a one day wait for processing.
I seem to recall that in the past the odds of receiving the visa were very low; however it seems that that is changing lately.

I submitted my I-485 ( my wife's actually ) and did not list my assets. I did not need to, as I am well above the 125% poverty guidelines. I also did not include the section seven paperwork as it plainly states that it is optional.
You guessed it! RFE? I received the letter today and will be sending my reply tonight. I will keep you posted as to outcome.

Ok here goes. Currently my wife sends her mother money periodically. Wife resides in USA. Mama resides in small village in Colombia.
We have been sending the money via Western Union at a cost of $9.99 dollars US for $200.00 dollars US. WU union does not have an office in the small village so the money gets wired to the wife’s sister in Medellin.
This has two drawbacks. One mama has to wait for delivery from other daughter or money has to be rewired within Colombia ...

Does anyone have any recent information on travel to these areas? I remember reading about caravans traveling to Sonson; but, imagine that was for a weekend festival only.

Hey a new topic every one!!!
I write this in response to reactions from my wife.
After the birth of our daughter recently I noticed that it was impossible to get her out in the evening. It seems she has a strong belief that exposing your child (or the Mama) to the rays of the setting sun is a bad bad thing in Colombia. Maybe the baby will become very ill or the Mama go crazy. I could not disuade my wife from this belief and finally just asked what the rules were.
Julianna was born on the 18'th of May at 6:48 pm. Hence my absence from the forum the past few weeks. She was 51 centimeters long and weighed 3061 grams (6 lb 12 ozs and 20 inches for the gringos). Mom and baby are great. The diver now has a new snorkeler to train.

For those too cash poor or time poor to travel to Colombia here is an idea. Teach English classes here in the U.S. You will have more encounters to fulfill your xenophilic desires tahn you can shake a stick at. I know because I did this to help keep myself occupied and learn about spanish and other cultures. It was a real kick and if I wasn't madly in love my overseas wife I could have been seduced many times.

My wife is bugging the hell out of me to come up with some names for our daughter. She is due to arrive on 23'rd of May. She is also adamantly against using any names already in use by her relatives. This makes it a difficult task as she has ten siblings and she is the last to have a child. Her mother also had 10-11 siblings so basically 98% of latinas names are "taken".
She is using Juliana for the time being. A good suggestion may save my marriage as

Find one in the good old USA. There are way more of them than you would realize. You get multiple benefits...Maybe she is here legal already (or maybe not...Caveat Emptor). If so you don't have to deal with immigrations, travel, and a host of other ideas.
