HOT WATER My wife took our 15 months old daughter to see her family in Caicedonia Colombia, and all hell brook loose, the para's started fighthing the army, they stormed the town they went around telling everybody "los buenos personas duermen temprano" y "los chicos malos nosotros los hacemos dormir" my wife called me on the phone scared because the baby is a EU passport, and she was afraid for you know what, and she could not get out of the town, finaly things clmed a little and she went to some family I have in Bog. to wait for her flight back. Until some one had to translate the permit for AVIANCA on the phone word by word the lady said o sorry have a pleasant flight, I don't think I can write what my wife said to her. Also the AVIANCA lady called her a traitor for leaving Colombia and not returning in so long, and that it's people like her that abandone Colombia is at fault that the country is going bad.
She had to also hear something similar from the the lady at the DAS when she was exiting.

LET'S GET REALISTIC A few days ago the mother of a Colombian girlfriend of my wife was visiting her daughter, and my wife asked her if she likes it, and she blured out the same things as LOLA. And it pissed me of.
Colombia is very beautifull, Bogota is gorgeous, I visited Armenia recently and it's almost like heaven.
Colombia is very good and in some cases it could probably be better than the states, but this is only for the chosen few, THE ONES WITH THE $$$$, or EUROS, if you don't have that don't come B.S. ing me with all that stupid stuff.

LIFE stories People are diffrent everywhere, when I was younger I had some bad experiences with Colombianas but to my luck, not, "knowledge", I did not end up with these people as my life companions, probably they realized I was not usefull for their purposes. 5 years ago I met a very special Colombiana I had to chase her for 2 years before I got a date, now she is my wife and we have a 10 month baby girl.
She is totaly diffrent from my other Colombian experiences, when I met her she was legal in my country, had her own permit, had her own steady job and income, her own apartment, paid by her, we had a "normal" courtship and slowly we escalated to what we are today, ther was no hurry or preasure to marry or for me to become her permit provider. Her family is o.k. in Colombia, they don't rip her of for money, all her brothers have their careers, her mom and her dad are in their 70's and have been together forever, and can't live without each other. She has a daughter 17 years old wich is one of the most well brought up teenagers I have seen.
So what am I saying is that sometimes the indications are in our face and we can't see them.
EXAMPLE
"Gloria" she is 22 years old, you met her working at the frontdesk hotel. She goes to movie with you one night, then next day you have sex, and she does things nobody ever did to you, you go back home in love, she calls and says they killed her father needs $200, whenever you call her she is not home even late hours, her mom got her when she was 15, haven't been with her father since, she has 4 other brothers by diffrent fathers, 2 of them are in jail 1 don't work, and the other is in Spain doing something. Gloria has a cell phone that not even you can aford to buy, Gloria is constanly traveling with a "cousin" that ocasionaly fondles her or looks at you mad.

This has nothing to do with nationality this has to do with kind of people you involve yourself with, there are woman just like Gloria where I live, but for some reason you distinguish them and stay away from them.

FACTS I am not Colombian I am not U.S. American, I am very familiar with the U.S. way of thinking and living, and I am very familiar with the ways of Colombian thinking and living.
Forget the money issue for a moment, forget the greencard issue,
The U.S. way does not fit or tolerate the Colombian way, and vice versa. I think alot of these relationships are doomed to fail from the beginning. My best congratulations to those that have been able to keep it together, I can imagine it has been a very very tough road. I am a Caribean person with a lot of latin/ U.S. /European mix,
and at times I regret being with a Colombiana, because our ways are very diffrent, and one bad thing about alot of Colombians is that they are not willing to adapt to their new enviroment, they want to force their Colombian ways.
I think especialy young people must think about this step very good, because you are going to sacrifice alot of things you have now, (money, time, language, social life, family, standard of living,) and many other things. Most of the females have kids, more weight on you.
Once that person falls under your responsibility it's like flying your twin engine fully loaded airplane suddenly on one engine.
For now she comes over a few months and then she is back at her moms in Colombia, it's all fun fun fun.
I know alot of Europeans that could not handle it, because our ways of thinking is just diffrent, very diffrent, one points south the other north.
