Free trade great. How about getting us some nice fiance visas for Canada?!

leftside comments on UK drug users 'damaging Colombia'

As others have said, you are not going to stop these ignorant people from snorting. Legalization and government controlled drug stores will help the problem in a big way though.

leftside comments on Best Colombia/Bogota Newspaper online (English)

That Colombiareports.com is a great site. Will be a good source of topics for conversation with my Colombian friends.

My girlfriend lives there... and so will I... soon...

leftside comments on Any last minute suggestions on Cartagena

They are plentiful. But, I doubt your wife will realize they are prepagos. Perhaps the sea air and the holiday atmosphere will encourage your wife to "experiment" ;-)

leftside comments on Fiancé visa

Or Wales.... last time I checked England and Wales were different countries. Here is a good thread on the matter: http://poorbuthappy.com/colombia/post/visa-for-fiancee-to-come-to-uk/

leftside comments on !!!!CUIDADO!!!!! New Marriage Rules for San Andres-Now Same as the Rest of Colombia

This is a pain. Now you will require your divorce certificate and birth certificate. Your divorce certificate will also have to be authenticated. Also, your birth certificate and divorce certificacte will have to be translated to Spanish by an official translator.

leftside comments on Any last minute suggestions on Cartagena

Great area of town - LDV is a 6-7 minute walk from there. It looks like a regular bar from the outside, so take the wife :-) You are near to all the good beaches and it's only a 5 min cab ride into the historical area. I can't remember how much the cab was from the airport. Maybe 20,000 pesos? You'll have a fantastic time. All the restaurants I went to in the old town were great. The fish was almost as good as in Vancouver :-)

leftside comments on Accomodation in the Quindio Region in January

Found the Web site no problem. Just googled "the finca marsellesa". Looks nice. Certainly worth a consideration. Thanks.

Jeff, you are a lucky, lucky, LUCKY man. When is this event happening?

leftside comments on I.T. jobs in medellin

I'm moving to Colombia for a year starting next year March. The plan is to live with my Colombian girlfriend and decide if we want to get married before I start the long process of bringing her into Canada. I'm a software consultant. I'm currently negotiating with IT companies in Canada in regard to some teleworking (I'm an architect/senior developer who specializes in .NET/C#/SOA/BizTalk) whilst I am in Colombia. I haven't used a pimp for a few years, but they can be useful. Once I've learnt some more Spanish I'll also consider looking for work in Colombia. It would be good to network with a few of you on here who are in the IT business. Here is my personal work Web site: www.simplyeffective.com

leftside comments on Poverty, drugs feed Colombian city's violence in Buenaventura

Perhaps leaving out the word "poor" would be better? " if I could temporarily sterilize teenagers until they were in their twenties, and more able to take care of babies, I would love to do so."

leftside comments on Cartagena~ La Dulce Vida, Babar, Mr Babilla, Queens, Isis, Electrico, and any other club

If you like techno and young ladies dressed in sexy clubbing gear then elektra cannot be beaten.

> But Londoners just carried on as normal. Yes we did. And so will the Colombians in Cali.

leftside comments on What's wrong with Cartagena?

I've been to Bogota, Villavicencio (and lots of towns around Villavicencio), San Andres and Cartagena. I'm going to be living in Cartagena for 6-9 months starting March next year - and I can't wait! My apartment will have air conditioning though :-) I love Cartagena. Would I want to live there for a few years? Not sure. Ask me in September 2009 :-) The place has amazing history, restaurants, bars, clubs and beaches. It also makes an ideal place to live for long weekend trips to Barranquilla, Santa Marta and the rest of the coast. Didn't I mention the ladies? Jesus.... Deal with the vendors. I found a very strong "no" and then completely ignoring them worked well.

leftside comments on Renting a car in the Quindio region

Yes, I am from England. Grew up and drove in London. Moved to Canada when I was 27. Been here 11 years, so I'm a little rusty... :-) Am I nervous about driving in Colombia? Hell yeah! I've seen how they drive in Cartagena and Bogota! Once out of Bogota and in Villavicencio it was ok though. I'm hoping the areas in the Quindio will be a little less crazy?! Maybe not.... Thanks for the tips

leftside comments on Getting Married in Colombia!

Looks like there are a few of us.... Also in Canada (Vancouver). Just put my apartment on the market, with a plan to live in Cartagena for 6-9 months with my girl starting early next year...

leftside comments on 12 day trip to Columbia: Any advice on the best way to travel from Bogota to Cartagena to Medellin?

If it's 12 hours from Cartagena-Medellin then I think I'll fly, but judging by Tom's pics I'm not sure I'm going to leave Cartagena! I might be a convert to a "beach person" ;-)

leftside comments on 12 day trip to Columbia: Any advice on the best way to travel from Bogota to Cartagena to Medellin?

Thanks for the other airline tips. > Learning how to spell the name of the country correctly will be an awful lot of help > when trying to purchase a map. Wooo... thanks for that (blush) Yes, Tom I'm flying from Toronto. Not a problem - fly from Vancouver to Toronto one day and have a night in Toronto. The next day I fly from Toronto. My 12 days is all in Columbia. Arrive Saturday night in Bogota - will dump stuff off in hotel and then hit the bars/clubs in Bogota (any good recommendations for techno/trance/electronica would be appreciated - but perhaps I'll ask that in another thread). Then we'll head to Cartagena the next day (or even day after). My friends from Toronto are going to stay in Cartagena the whole week - but I'd really like to at least see Medellin as well, as I have a few extra days. I'm more of a "mountain person" than a "beach person" (though in Vancouver we have both - but quite different to Colombia I bet - lol). I've heard the return flight can be fun :-)

leftside comments on 12 day trip to Columbia: Any advice on the best way to travel from Bogota to Cartagena to Medellin?

Great tips! Thanks. I'm flying in from Vancouver, Canada and don't arrive in Bogota until late in the evening, so I'll probably stay in Bogota for a couple of days before flying to Cartagena and then take the bus to Medellin and possibly Malgar. I'll do a google and see if I can find the Avianca site. Do flights fill up quickly? If I arrive in Bogota one day, will it be easy for me to get a flight to Cartagena the next day or the day after? I'll be arriving the middle or March.
