Hi Iris welcome to the board. I think that your help will be very useful to the people who want to learn a good spanish. I did some posts with very basic things, but I am not a teacher :) But there is another guy Rocinante that make a good job. So I guess that Peter, the Admin of the site, will be very happy.

Subjuntivo is tough but not all that bad after time. Having a good teacher or course really helps. If you ask a native spanish speaker why there are two verbs for the same person and tense they have no idea - it just comes natural to them to switch under certain conditions:

Espero que Jorge tenga su billatera
Sé que Jorge tiene su billatera

Ask them why TENGA in one sentence and TIENE in the other and they will tell you that "It just sounds right" - however as foreign learners can't really use that rule.

If you learn the hows sand whys of the the Spanish Subjunctive then you have a much smaller amount of memorization to worry about. Otherwise one is absorbing or memorizing double the amount of words (verbs) for the same tense.

I use Iris twice a week for my studies online. I have used her for over a year. I also use a teacher from Bogota and go to a Spanish Language scool once a week in the USA. She is by far the best teacher I have and has an excellent grasp of what problem I may have with understanding something. Rocinante is correct a lot of teachers just can't explain things the way I a now speaker needs it.

I also have a weekly spanish lesson with Iris. I think she has helped me a great deal. She is really nice and has a good grasp of English as well. Highly recommended.

When learning the subjunctive.....i used to just use it whenever i possibly fit it into a conversation. Even if it sounded strange I would just try and use it in any situation i could.......repetition is crucial

the main thing with the subjunctive is learning the key words that "trigger" it..........just learn these phrases and you'll be fine.
