It's hard to compare how dangerous two countries are. Colombia is a relatively civilized country that is safer to travel in than mexico because the police in colombia will protect you rather than kidnap you like in mexico, but there are dangerous places and safe places. Go to bogota and medellin and hang out in the tourist areas with a local and you'll be fine but have some local take you around especialy if it's your first time outside of the USA.

People would have guessed that this was from Chavez, la FARC, castro before they would have guessed hitler because none of us learn our history correctly. Hitler was a socialist very similar to Chavez, but the question is: why don't we learn our history of NAZIism (NAZI = national socialist party) properly in school and why don't people make this connection between Hitler and Chavez? People are ignorant. Hitler was an extreme nationalist just like Chavez, who wanted to improve his people and his country and to spread the wealth around to everyone. Chavez is building hospitals, just as hitler provided improvements to the fatherland which he probably does (did) so that he could remain popular. In order to maintain power Chavez needs a scapegoat, something the people can view as the ultimate enemy and thus there exists his obsession for the USA. This way he can channel all anger and disappointment and all responsibility of failures of Venezuela and its government toward the USA yet any little accomplishment no matter how pathetic is taken as a great victory thanks to Chavez. Is the USA 100% innocent of the problems in South America? No, but there are many other nations that are responsible for the problems in south America such as Spain. There is exaggerated blame and hate directed toward the USA, similar to the blame of Jews for the social problems of Germany before world war II. Jews were not 100% innocent and yes they conducted themselves in a way that angered many Germans but the rage and anger toward them was overdone and used politically to unite the Germans as Chavez has and will use his own scapegoat to unite the Venezuelans and, if he is lucky, more of Latin America. In the end Hitler wanted Germans to be all wealthy and live like kings by spreading outward and taking foreign lands. Chavez does not have the ability to spread out yet because his country could not build the military power (at least for now). He is trying the only kind of expansion that he is capable of, which is reaching out to other nations to convert the people to his line of thinking. He uses bribe techniques to do this. He sends his people's money to help the “poor” people of vermont and england, people who are rich compared to the poor people of his own continent. He could use that money to help the people in the northern countries of south america and of central america.

At this time Chavez would not attack Colombia because he knows that the USA would send troops down there. The "evil empire" is in his way, so now all he can do is try to "build up". You start by making sure that you can keep control of your own nation. Chavez bought 3 billion dollars worth of AK-47s and Mig fighters all of which would be useless in a war with the United States--The AK-47s wouldn't stop troops from coming in and Mig fighters would be shot down from 30 miles away. Chavez bought these weapons because he wants to build an army and air force close to himself that will protect him from the Venezuelan army which could turn on him. In fact a lot of his air force was trained in the USA. So chavez is angry with the USA because it is really the only nation that would bother to stop him if he attacked another country in south America. That's the problem with his plan. It would be flawless otherwise. The plan is to spread chavism around south america. I know several young Colombian males that have fallen for this and who have che banners in their houses or stickers on their cars. If a large part of the people are already loyal to Chavez when he starts the attack against colombia then the colombian government will fall quickly. It will be his version of a blitzkrieg. Then he can conscript loyal young men from the new Venezuelan conquests and then he can move from there.

So if Chavez attacked Colombia, would Europe do anything about it? I doubt it, because they wouldn’t worry much about something that’s happening half way around the world. The Canadians would never do anything to stop a socialist uprising. So the only thing between Chavez and his Bolivian empire is the USA and most specifically the right wing of he USA, thus you can understand why he hates el estados unidos so much.

schawwn, I understand why you feel strange about this. It's because you want to pour your love into her but you can't if she puts a wall up. The God Wall. The fact is that God is a personal relationship and is a personal relationship with all of us. We have no true requirement to tell another human being that they are secondary and I doubt God wants people to do this. Our relationship with god is a selfish thing, something internal. If you tell another person that you put God before them then you really mean you put yourself before the other person because your relationship with God is exactly that, yours. This is a personal stab and is not necessary; however, if you believe in God in the same way it wouldn't bother you. The reason she said that to you is it's a social pressure and she really didn't think of what it really means.

The USA is a high paying customer. China cannot pay as much for oil and shipping to china has a lot of overhead. The fact is that losing the US as a customer is a seriously stupid move by chavez. be careful with that 6 month thing Here are the facts about the 6 months. You can allow 3 months to pass and she can enter with 90 days in the USA. Then after that she starts using her 90 day period in the USA, so if you wait 4 months and you enter the USA, she then has 60 days in the USA and if you enter the USA on the last day of the 6th month you better have a plane ticket for her back in the same day.

also I don't mean to trash colombia, but you need the other side of the story, the negative side. I'm a big guy, 6'2" (1.9 meters), and I'm half mexican and I feel vulnerable as hell when I'm out on the streets there and it's just not comfortable like in the USA, europe or australia. Remember a life changing event only has to occur once. Someone from colombia will say it's great and why are you worrying but they are colombian and will never know what it's like to have all the attention that being a foreigner brings about there. The fact is colombia is somewhat safe for a colombian but not so safe for a foreigner. Are you really going to bring your daughter to live in the world's land mine capital? Do a search online, "colombia landmines". In the end it's your choice and going to colombia can be an awesome thing to see how other cultures work, it's also very mysterious to us, but prepare for the worst, have your parents hold a few thousand dollars for you in case things go bad, so they can send it to you if your bf turns out to be different than you expected.

don't do it first off I'd like to say that I plan to live in colombia for a short time with my fiancee. I have an online job that allows me to make an american wage anywhere I can get internet. I also enjoy being there, but now it's time to wake up to reality for you. don't do it. you move to colombia, boyfriend takes over your life and controls the money then finds a hot latina, dumbs you or you dump him, now where are you? job? well if you don't have a job how will you be independent? The laws favor the men. Teaching english doesn't really make you that much money and there's a good chance you won't get that kind of job. Sorry but this is a very very very bad idea, there's a reason why women dont tend to marry in the other direction (ie wealthy nation to poor nation) and if you do you are a serious sucker. Don't do it unless you want to really screw yourself over. If he's rich as hell, you still get screwed over if you have to leave him but now you really get screwed. Also you might not enjoy getting your ass pinched as you walk down the street alone and your breasts grabed or even crotch, which happens to my fiancee weekly. Little things like that will drive you crazy, you will be afraid to leave your house without your boyfriend/husband. Just a plain stupid idea; my fiancee thinks you're nuts.

high health care in the USA There are two reasons why health care cost is high in the USA. The number 1 reason are lawsuits. People sue doctors for anything because people think they can make money out of them for any tiny little thing. The fear of litigation causes hospitals to practice policies of not refusing any patient from emergency rooms and 90% of patients should be refused and refereed to their general practitioner because their problems are NOT emergencies. So what this brings about is every vagabond with a caugh must be treated and every vagabond off the street that walks in with a caugh gets 5000 dollars worth of images and tests so that the hospital can't be sued in the future and these tests are not done in colombia on anyone. Also you would notice that these 90% of the people in the emergency room, who should visit their family doctor are looking for free care and they dont care if they cost the system thousands of dollars. If things were simple like in colombia and people weren't greedy and didn't sue then things would be cheap here also. The second reason is that they are not putting out more doctors at a rate that can properly serve people in the USA. The fact is it's the government's fault in every way that health care costs are high. 1. they allow people to sue for anything and any amount and 2. they don't write laws to force medical schools to increase output or bring about the construction of more medical schools. However, I believe in shared responsibility as well and the people that complain about the health care system and their lack of coverage are at fault as well because they are the most likely to sue and they are the most likely to abuse the system and drive up costs. The middle class family gets the shaft for what other morons do and what the government allows them to do. We just need to restructure things.

Also we have socialized health care in the USA. You just don't see it. No hospital today is able to balance it's budget. That's a fact. When the hospital anounces that it's closing, what do you think the state does? They pay off the balance, thus we have socialized medicine because the government is paying for a large amount of these useless and unnecesary tests.

I'm not saying our legal system sucks, what I'm saying is that we need to organize our medical system and legal system involved in medicine in a better way.
