I have the Orange Broadband service. It costs £20 a month for broadband/internet and all local, national and international phone calls are free except 0845 and 0870.Not all countries are free but most, including Colombia so can chat for hours if you want.

larumberainglesa comments on Seven Sisters

Have been to Seven Sisters market many times Kalder. Good nosh. Bought sausages and tickets to see Son de Cali last time was there (a while ago now). Will be going again soon to see if I can get some soaps on DVD. Surprised you haven't been before - you live in London, don't you? (me in Essex)

larumberainglesa comments on Colombia VS Republic of Ireland (London) May 29th

Well just bought the tickets, will let you know.

larumberainglesa comments on Colombia VS Republic of Ireland (London) May 29th

Thanks for suggestions. Will have a look. Am going because who knows when they will be playing here again! They play France in Paris in June - surely that would be worse RAAAY!!

That's what I thought - and tight bastards for not giving more, hey?!

larumberainglesa comments on Returning from Colombia to Uk

We have a son but my husband went alone on this trip. He is not a person who likes to really do sightseeing stuff. He has never done it before he met me and it is something quite new to him and I just think he doesn't associate sightsseing with Colombia (home) like he would if we went to a new place in Europe. Sightseeing is a luxury for those who have money and time and he is only just getting his head round the fact that he now has that luxury. Brain retraining...

larumberainglesa comments on AA no more

My husband arrived at the airport in Bogota last Friday for the 11.30am flight to Miami with AA to connect with Virgin to Heathrow (the same route, Kat). His flight was also cancelled and he had to wait til 4.40pm then they told him they had found a seat for him on an Air France flight via Paris so he arrived, knackered and about 7 hours late. Neither of us had flown AA before and judging by the comments here it is an airline to be avoided. I have flown Continental (that was good), Air Canada via Toronto (nice quick flight). KLM via Amsterdam (great food) and Avianca (SHIT) via Madrid where there had overbooked the flight by 27 people (including us ) and we went the next day. By the way he said Air France was good. Surely would have cost us more if we had booked with them originally. He also couldn't believe all the beaurocracy in Miami on the outward flight. Canada was much more relaxed.

If I could get rid of the stinking moggy from the flat upstairs I would be happy...

larumberainglesa comments on Returning from Colombia to Uk

God, don't say that, my son would LOVE one in the back garden.

larumberainglesa comments on Returning from Colombia to Uk

You see? Young kids, it's the place to go. Well we did Eurodisney in May and then Port Adventura in Spain in December and both times were out of season and all right really. Preferred Port Adventura to Eurodisney. Maybe because it was Spain!!! I'd like to see some gators - think even my husband wouldnt mind half an hour of that.

larumberainglesa comments on Returning from Colombia to Uk

Maybe you haven't got a 7 year old son? Also,my husband, having been brought up poor, thinks going to highly developed places is very interesting. He would never consider for example going to a place that was rural with fields, grass and not much more, or camping or a picnic (all things I did when I was young). Something I like to do in fact. If I go for a walk in the woods, it would never occur to me to ask him along. He thinks I am mad.The few times he has felt obliged on holidays to drag along he has wither retreated to the car and spoilt the day for everyone else, or moaned so much we were forced to go home (to 'civilisation'). To him campo = poverty and he wants to get as far away from that as poss. Shame but I understand him at the same time. He sees now tat it is the opposite here. If you have money you buy a house in the country - he explained this to his incredulous family! Orlando isn't my first choice but I know it will be easy, they will have fun therefore I will have fun. The reason he didnt have a good vacation in Colombia is that no one his family has EVER had the luxury of a vacation so don't know what that means. He stays at home there and that's it. Life goes on as normal, even when he is there as every second you are breathing = a second you could be working as you don't know where the next peso is coming from. Also he went to visit a brother who has had a stroke and spent days by his bedside nursing him. So you see it was never meant to be a 'vacation' anyway. Yes, Kalder. It is the relief, calm and ease of life here that is a relief. He has been back many times as an adult but I still think you try to hang on to the romanticism as long as possible.

larumberainglesa comments on UK sterling in Colombia

Correction - have been twice on holiday. Anyway, wanted to know if all ATM's gave out 300 only. Thanks for answers again

larumberainglesa comments on UK sterling in Colombia

Thanks everyone. Gator, for your info, I lived in Colombia and had an account with Davivienda and functioned in pesos. I have only been to Colombia once as a tourist and had terrible problems with changing travellers cheques and could only draw out 300 pesos per day and didn't have a credit card at that time. So although I lived in Colombia and yes, I have an apartment there, I rarely visit (and my husband is going this week, not me and he never had a bank account there - too poor). My mother in law has the nationwide card I sent her. Still haven't got a credit card, so will check the limit with my bank. Of course, some things I can pay for by debit card but don't want to keep being charged £1.50 every time. thanks

larumberainglesa comments on UK sterling in Colombia

I am talking about 300 mil pesos, not dollars - are you? We need large amounts to pay builders and buy building materials, pay hospital fees and other stuff. Not like a normal holiday.

larumberainglesa comments on Is there a tendency between family culture and distrust of others?

Hello, I haven't been here for a while . Just my observation. My husband (Colombian) doesn't trust anyone at all. I think that is why he has a hard time here in the UK. He will not let anyone get too close to him (even me). He is so cynical of people and their motives that I find it quite depressing. I am not a gullible naive person at all but think it must be down to culture

larumberainglesa comments on "Consomme"

Well I wouldn't try any of them cos I don't eat meat! My husband will eat anything (except pizza!!!) but the vena is the main bit, not the balls!

larumberainglesa comments on "Consomme"

I had a wicked hangover on Sat and my husband said he used to have 'sopa de vena de toro' for his guayabo. I'll let you guess what the 'vena' is.....

larumberainglesa comments on

I also can't cope with not seeing the latest reply at the top of the list. In fact I am using PBH less than before because I don't find it easy to use. Shame.

larumberainglesa comments on

Yes, have seen that video clip. Also have a look at www.festivalencuentrolatino.co.uk and www.londonsalsascene.info for events happening around London. We try and go to as much as poss even though we don't live in London - my husband is a salsa instructor so we keep up with what's going on!

larumberainglesa comments on

As for Colombian festivals get yourself to www.carnavaldelpueblo.co.uk on 5th August. Going to Turnpike Lane tomorrow night (Fri) to see Swing Latino (World Salsa Champions from Cali) to celebrate Colombian Independence Day (see www.olalatina.co.uk). Last weekend we organised our own salsa event in Essex starring Ricardo Murillo y Viviana Vargas (World Salsa Champions 2005 from Cali). It was great! Hectic but fun and we had 120 people from all over the region. See them at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQ0dFzOY3ug :)

larumberainglesa comments on

Might come....

larumberainglesa comments on Your are not Colombian if you do not have one of these (Carriel?)

I always find Mochilas cut into my neck if I wear them across the body. My husband uses it sometimes but don't think he would ever wear the hairy one. We bought vueltiaos lst time and they adorn the walls of the house. Would look like a right prat wearing one of those in WAG'sville (Essex). Might wear it to Carnaval del Pueblo in Aug tho!

larumberainglesa comments on interesting website?

Have a look at that video clip of the kid playing football in Barranquilla. As my husband said 'es un berraco!!!' Of course he wants his own son to play in the world cup one day but I think this kid has the edge over him..

larumberainglesa comments on Londinenses...Kalder etc

Leeroy - I lived in Coldharbour Lane, Brixton for a bit too! Went up to London to La Mazorca a few weeks ago. Food not all that but go for the dancing. I prefer the little market in Seven Sisters to the Elephant (aesthetic reasons really). One of my friends (English) who came to La Mazorca had travelled round Colombia but has essentially lived a very upper middle class life so I didn't tell her about the drunk guy at the bar with a gun tucked into his trousers (and who indicated in a drunken way if I wanted to dance with him). Me hize la loca. When we got back to her flat my husband mentioned it and she said if she'd known she would have left. Was that the real flavour of Colombia or was it just Brixton? Dunno.I believe the only police who carry guns are in Heathrow airport and some parts of Manchester though I think Nottingham is one of the most dangerous cities in the UK.

I can't see where it says add a friend! Which page?

larumberainglesa comments on Most popular

Next question - how do I add a friend??

larumberainglesa comments on Most popular

Ah! I get it, I have to add friends. Ok Kalder - you are now officially my mate.

larumberainglesa comments on Most popular

Still being thick as a brick. My profile says latest friends 14 then friends: 0. So I'm Billy No Mates?

larumberainglesa comments on Pasto to Tumaco

I wouldn't do it.As well as the usual dangers there is also the possibility of landslides, what with all the recent heavy rain in Tumaco. This road is quite often blocked in bad weather and it's not a road I would like to be stuck on

larumberainglesa comments on Most popular

Well, don't know what Peter's talking about but I think you're alright.

larumberainglesa comments on Mi Cali Bella

larumberainglesa comments on My first visit to a Clinica/Hospital in Barranquilla

Ah ...lemon juice Anytime me or my son are ill my husband (who grew up on a beach in Colombia with no money to see a doctor) trots out the old lemon juice cure or some other concoction.I find it quite interesting but any major pain you will see me running to the doctor, not him.

larumberainglesa comments on Anyone can dance salsa

love2colombia My husband dances like the guy doing the shinein your posting and it scares the hell out of the other guys here in the UK so much so that they prefer to go to Eglish guys classes who dance like they've got a broom stuck up their arse rather than come to his salsa classes. We just despair....

larumberainglesa comments on hip hop choco style

Yes, my husband had a craze on listening to reggaeton about 6 months ago then at Christmas when we went to Colombia that was all he heard on the Pacific coast and when he got to Cartagena in the taxi from the airport he asked the driver to put on some vallenato. He's about had his fill and we haven't heard it much recently in our house - it's back to salsa, hurray (he is a salsa instructor after all)

larumberainglesa comments on webmanco

Nah If you waffle on a bit first then the video clip gets posted down where you can see it. But do I have to waffle first or can I just press space space.....?I will try.

larumberainglesa comments on hip hop choco style

Si, son muy buenos My husband is from the Pacific coast - there is a lot of North American copy style crap but I like this and I like her voice. I have trouble catching everything he says as it's so fast but cool.

larumberainglesa comments on Embuelto [sp?]
