LarsBrink comments on Kenya coast

Kenya is a really nice place. Though there for work and only 6 days I saw some cool stuff around Nairobi. If you love Colombia you will for sure like Kenya. Lots of similarities.

LarsBrink comments on colombian products online

I don't think so. I haven't seen El Platanal online for quite som time now and have never tried it myself. La Tienda Latina is operating still. The two name I have corresponded with there are: Piedad Marín and Alvaro Vesga Vargas

LarsBrink comments on colombian products online

Thanks. Anyone knows other online stores in Europe (that sends to Denmark)?

Long time no hear! I will be going to Kenya as well in a weeks time, but to Nairobi and not the cost. Sorry to say that I don't know any hotels there.

LarsBrink comments on LarsBrink

Hi Peter! Never really been away! Visiting now and then since 1999! I have my own Colombia site for Danes you know so not enough hours in a day to do everything. Great work with the new system though.

LarsBrink comments on Bike paths / cycling in Bogota

Cycleing in Colombia There are lots of bike parhs in Bogota. Other cities not so much yet. One problem with the bike paths is that they are not though into the whole city-planning from the beginning so you will see light-poles in the middle of a bike path for example. You will see them end suddenly because some construction didnt allow them to continue etc.

On Sundays and some holidays they close many streets in Bogota and allow bikes and rollerskates to use the streets. That makes it much more secure to bike though it is used for exercise and relaxing more than transport.

In general it is not friendly to bike. Since so few people do it cars are not too aware of the bikes which makes it dangreous to bike outside the bike-paths.

Only Medellin has a sub-way and I guess there you could bring a bike. In other citis I would not recommend to bring a bike into a bus nor Transmellineo. Many busses are small and entry and exit is not easy even for larger persons carrying anything.

LarsBrink comments on Shakira blows a kiss...

Looking forward! I'm looking forward to see the show on the 9th of March in Denmark! I hear that it is not as great as the tour I was in Berlin (2003 or 2004 I think it was) but Im sure it will be a blast (there are still tickets for sale at www.billetnet.dk!

LarsBrink comments on Bogota flight to Cartagena

Tried to buy online We tried several times to buy tickets online for internal flights in Colombia but was never successfull with the creditcard transactions. It would help you though to buy it well in advance since you will get a better price that way.

We were in Cartagena in December and paid 933.000 pesos for flight and 4 nights in Decameron (all inclusive hotel!)

LarsBrink comments on

Airfrance aswell Last time we went with Airfrance (May 2005) the tax as also included in the ticket. That was flight Copenhagen = Paris = Bogota. Our last flight (Copenhagen = Atlanta = Bogota) we had to pay tax to leave Bogota.

LarsBrink comments on Is it land line number or movil number??

In Denmark not too easy.. Hi!

In Denmark some years ago mobile phones had the first digits of 30 or 40. But not we have a lot of different series but it is still possible to tell the difference since you cannot take a cellphone number and use it as a land-line.

Not it is 20-29, 30, 40, 50, 51, 60, 61 and maybe more.

Lars Brink - colombia.dk - brink-christensen.dk

LarsBrink comments on Honeymoon in Cartagena??? Any thoughts???

Been there more times! Hi eagle46,

I have been there with my novia several times as well. Now we are married and living in Denmark. It is for sure a nice and romantic city. Maybe a little touristy but you can easily find nice spots, romatic places etc.

The horse ride through the old town is a must as mentioned.

Your dates are outside the 'rush-hour' which is from X-mas to February.

Good luck.

Lars Brink - colombia.dk - brink-christensen.dk

LarsBrink comments on Maria full of grace out on VHS / DVD

Iain + the title of the film Remember if you like it you buy it right?

The title is actually the second line of a typical chatolic prayer. That fooled some of the people who went with us to see it in the cinema. They thought that we were going to watch a religius movie :-)

gringoinbogota Hi Gringo,

I was mentioning that because I tend to get too much to drink so I will not drive myself. Better to get someone comitted before :-)

LarsBrink comments on Best Bars in Bogota

Andres Carne de Res! Simply the best place on earth for food, drinks and dance. It is not in Bogotá sadly, but only 30 minutes from there!

Take a night there (get a driver!) and get back here and tell! The place is in Chia.

LarsBrink comments on Food In Colombia

More foods.. Hi Lionheart,

I love their potatoes called papas criolla. Small, really yellow ans sweet potaotes that I didn't know from Denmark. Make them into frenchfries and you have heaven :-)

Another thing that looks like potatoe is yuca which is a similar thing. Longer than a potatoe but growing on the dirt.

No clue on the thing in the leaf.

754 - think that it is a arepa. Some kind of bread often made of corn. Served often for breakfast with just butter. Here more like a pizza with topings on.

The morcilla is sussage made of blod. Don't care much for that :-/

LarsBrink comments on Colombia to Northern Brasil

LarsBrink comments on Exit TAX

colombian/other citizen Doesn't the rate depend on how many days you were in Colombia and not the citizenship?

I think the limit is 30 days before you go to the higher rate.

LarsBrink comments on How much does a house maid cost?

Back in 2000.. Hi,

Back in year 2000 I paid around 14.000 pesos for an 8-9 hour day. My maid came once a week and cleaned the apartment, washed the disches and my clothes etc.

Tramonti Hi vic,

I would say Tramonti. That is a cool place.

If you are into something 100% unique I would say "Andres Carne de Res" which is the coolest restaurent/danceplace in the world!! Only thing is that (s)he will most likely know it allready.

Your friend! If you have been friends sinde 1981 I guess the only one who can say anything about this is you.
Do you trust him? Do you want to help him? Do you think he is in some crime-related trouble? Do you care if it is?

I do not think anyone in this forum can say anything that can give you more insight than you allready have.

In Denmark we get aguardiente and Ron Viejo for around 185 DKK ~ GB £16 but for one liter! That is okay considering that we have high alcohol tax.

LarsBrink comments on trip to colombia...

On my first visit to Cagagena.. .. the beach/street sellers were much more aggressive than in my later visits where I spoke more spanish. They even talked very badly to my girlfriend (now wife) like "let the gringo buy the stuff, he has the money, you allready got yours" etc.

Others than that I have been spared any bad experiences in tourist areas and in the big cities.

Line of business etc? Hi Baron,

Maybe it is a good idea to write what products/services you offer or are interested in, your line of business, more about yourself, your compnay etc.

With a post like this one *might* think that you are looking for something illegal.

Good luck!

LarsBrink comments on Colombia Hot dog Recipes wanted

They are good! Hi Todd,

They are good! You will actually find that they change depending on the part of Colombia you are in. Hamburgers are as well with a lot of sauces ricos that we do not use here in Denmark.

My advise is to experience with everything you got. In Denmark we are very stuck up with what kind of stuff that goes with what kind of food and that is stupid.

Regards,

Lars Brink - colombia.dk - brink-christensen.dk

LarsBrink comments on My Colombian Girlfriend

Your gut feeling! Hi Fennell,

I guess that you have to go with your gut-feeling with the girl. Are you serious in the relationship and does she seem serious. It is a two-way street. If you are not serious about her she will most likely feel that and maybe 'use' you as well.

I do not have any personal experience with this. I'm married with a Colombian girl for 2½ years and we live together i Denmark right now. I have never felt any pressure to send tings, gifts or money to them.

Lars Brink - colombia.dk - brink-christensen.dk

LarsBrink comments on Visiting Cali and Colombia for the first time

Been to Cali Hi Kelv,

I'm from Denmark my self and have been to Cali and many other cities in Colombia on several occations.

For me the safety issue is very mucha about behaveiour. If you listen to the advice of the locals and stay out of areas that you should not go to (e.g. certain areas at night time for example) you are IMHO as safe in Cali as in any other larger city.

Traveling to Cali should be done by plane since traveling over ground can be a bit dangerous, but again it is possible following advise of the locals, traveling at daytime etc.

So don't do stupid things and you will be fine.

Have a nice trip!

Regards,

Lars Brink - colombia.dk - brink-christensen.dk

LarsBrink comments on Double Pricing?

Strata system again As I recall the strata system is not based on the quality of the houses as you also write. As I was told it depends on the area of the city and the income group most likely to live there.

Beeing dane an' all I like the system that to some extent try to put som equality into the tax payments.

Regards,

Lars Brink - colombia.dk - brink-christensen.dk

LarsBrink comments on Double Pricing?

Strata I guess that the fruit prices follow the strata system like the other civil utility payments.

Strata is a clasification where you pay gas, electricity, telephone etc. regarding the strata your address is connected to. Low is strata 1 and high is strata 6.

Regards,

Lars Brink - colombia.dk - brink-christensen.dk

LarsBrink comments on Spanish Classes?

Generel question! Hi Diana,

It is a very genereal question and you will probably get tons of different answers.

My experience living in Bogota is that if you behave 'normally' and do not do anything stupid you can live at least as safe as in any other metropol city in the world.

Listen to the locals for places not to go and what to do and you will be more than fine in Bogota.

(Lived there in the year 2000, and have been there ferquently 8-9 times since 1998)

Regards,

Lars Brink - colombia.dk - brink-christensen.dk

LarsBrink comments on Colombian websites

The Paisas also have... www.paisas.us

Regards,

Lars Brink - colombia.dk - brink-christensen.dk

LarsBrink comments on Double Pricing?

Not generally I do not think that the operate with 2 sets of prices in Colombia. You will pay the same prices as the Colombians for the goods and services in most places.

Ofcourse on the beach in Catagena they can tell that you are foreigner and you will have to get the price down to 40-50% of the original but that is part of negotiating.

Good luck!

Regards,

Lars Brink - colombia.dk - brink-christensen.dk

LarsBrink comments on Cycling in Colombia in 2005

Talk to the locals! As mentioned the places of danger changes all the time eventhough there are areas where you can almost always go and areas where you should never go.

Best thing is to talk to the locals in the areas. They know best - ofcourse also your embassy.

Good luck!

LarsBrink comments on Aerorepublica VS Avianca

Some delays Aero Republica I have tried to show up in the airport 3-4 hours before an domestic flight and be told that the flight was full and I had to wait.

Another time the flight was delayed 4-5 hours.

Flying back from Catagena the 'suddenly' find out that the airport in Bogotá is closed due to a storm (was allready closed when we left Catagena we found out later). They flew us to Medellin, let us sit in the plane for 6 hours without food, no hotel from around 10 pm to 4 am, we leave the plane go into another that flies us back to Bogotá more or less 14 hours delayed!

I do not fly with them if I can avoid it (as well I have a problem getting into planes that are older than myself ~ 30 years..)

Lars Brink - colombia.dk - brink-christensen.dk
