kiwi comments on First Time to Barranquilla (Meet Future Wife)

is this a dating site now? damn, i've been here in perú for the last 2 months, haven't logged onto this site in a while...now it's a full on discussion about dating...i remember the days when this kind of post would be nuked. i have found my other half, media naranja se dicen, here in perú and i have never been happier! but i have to say that colombia does rock, my gf gets sick of me talking about my 6 months there, maybe one day we'll go to san andres and the coast. if u guys come to perú, be sure to visit macchu picchu, well worth it.

mywave dude, use that $200 bucks towards a plane ticket, get down there and see if u click in person, all this chatting online don't mean jack till u find out if you got it going on with her. good luck and keep your eyes open, you must realise that a hot 23 yr old doesn't need a 48 yr old guy. ... oh and for fucks sake learn spanish, charm her with her own language, make jokes in spanish, you'll do ok.

kiwi comments on Jons Journal

ya te he escrito email on its way mate...

kiwi comments on Spanish fluency

similar happened to me too, UC some miltary guys in the south bus terminal asked for my cedula, well of course us foreigners only have a passport. anyway i was not in the mood to talk to them, so i said in rapidfire spanish something "no mejo, no tengo cedula...no hablo espanol". then he asks more questions which i answer, but keep saying i don't speak spanish, which gets him more confused because i'm understanding everything. then his buddy gets in on it, wants to see my passport, drivers licence, checks every page of my visa stamps because they thought i might be one of those irish terrorists or something. just caught my bus in time! better just to talk fast english to them, they'll soon get bored of not understanding and leave you alone.

kiwi comments on Jons Journal

hola Jon i'm back in nz mate, did my 6 mths in colombia, now have to give my liver a rest! ;-)

am working on a trip to peru next, am real keen to get out there, hopefully later this year. (the fact that i've met a fantastic girl from peru has nothing to do with that decision of course!) ;-0

enjoy your time in colombia and elsewhere in SA, maybe we'll bump into each other again somewhere down the line.

kiwi comments on Hey Moderator..Three's been Whole lot of deleting going on.. on this forum..

straight men do gay porn?! now we're happily discussing how hard gay porn stars have to work, but we are NOT talking about dating. well done everyone, keep up the posts and don't stray off track now!

this thread is well with PBH guidelines. hey if i start talking about how hard a colombian girl had to work to earn $25,000 pesos would that still be OK? in a porn movie of course, so that makes it OK. (porn movie on my digital camera that is).

...i'm just joking though hilary, i never made a movie like that.

i just took fotos.

kiwi comments on Hey Moderator..Three's been Whole lot of deleting going on.. on this forum..

i knew it i just knew it. you know how sometimes you just have a feeling. well i had that about hilary, just knew she was a gringa. welcome hilary, thanks for sharing with us. don't worry, i won't talk about whoring, or even about dating. cause that would get me into real trouble.

was one of the "other latin american countries" you lived in peru? cause i'm going to peru next and i'd love to know more about it. the reason i'm going is cause i'm dating this gir...oh uh, better stop there. just tell me about the inca stuff cause i'm really into that.

kiwi comments on Hey Moderator..Three's been Whole lot of deleting going on.. on this forum..

get your blinkers on folks talking about colombia, (hey should i spell it columbia, that seems to make people here go nuts), without mentioning the women, pretending they don't exist is like saying the onging civil war doesn't exist, or the drug production doesn't.

so put your blinkers on and read PBH within those guidelines. and no DATING. damn, who has time for dating anyway with those andes out there...?

and btw, i've been everywhere from san andres down to leticia and everywhere in between, including having climbed the 5000m nevado de ruiz. but it wasn't worth it cause there weren't any girls up there. only snow and ice.

kiwi comments on Hey Moderator..Three's been Whole lot of deleting going on.. on this forum..

andes? you're telling me colombia has andes? damn. are there girls up there? ;-)

kiwi comments on Hey Moderator..Three's been Whole lot of deleting going on.. on this forum..

this is not a dating site, i repeat, this is NOT a dating site what the heck does that mean? what is this amigos.com?

the only reason guys are interested in colombia are the women, get with the programme! most guys here are either married to, divorced from, living with, dating, wanting to bang, or pay-4-playing with colombian women.

why not just let them say what they want.

hey hands up who goes to colombia just for the food, weather, scenery, music...and never, ever, ever while there mets or has anything to do with a colombian girl? i wanna hear from you. same goes for gringas hooking up with colombian guys of course.

kiwi comments on Everything about Pereira (capital of gorgeous girls)

hola Litost hey dude, i did get there and it was great, went to the thermals of course, on chiva, great time that was. i loved santa rosa, has so much character, shame we never got to hook up for a beer man, next time!

Kiwi

plus, give it a rest guys, all this bickering is bullshit, yes the colombians have a go at each other, they call costenos lazy, they call rolos stuck up, they call pereiranas loose, but get over it, its not like they mean to offend, and as colombians u guys should know that more than me! i lived with my pereirana ex for 3 yrs, she told me about the whole "tell them to sit down and they lie down cause they're deaf" thing!

kiwi comments on Everything about Pereira (capital of gorgeous girls)

nacho paid them that's why! people it's not hard to find "pay for play" girls anywhere, you can't say pereira is full of loose women that is not true, but there are plenty of super friendly girls there, and everywhere...

my first night in medellin for example i had a girl give me her number on the street while i was busy talking on my cellphone and she stayed that nite with me, i didn't know her from a bar of soap she just gave me the number because she heard my accent in spanish and liked gringos...cost me 3,000 pesos for breakfast though! so does that mean all medellin girls are like that...UtopiaCowboy will tell u NO they aren't!

yeah it rains quite a bit there, used to piss me off cause i never owned an umbrella, hate carrying them

can't say pereira is full of history or spectacular architectura, it's young by colombian standards only about 140 yrs.

but nearby you have santa rosa de cabal, great little place, plus you are in the middle of the coffee region, not far either from armenia or manizales.

kiwi comments on Everything about Pereira (capital of gorgeous girls)

todo es correcto my gf, well ex now, is from there, so i spent about 3 months living there on my recent 6 mth trip...know the place like the back of mi mano!
also spent time in cali, medellin, cartagena, leticia, santa marta, bogotá...well everywhere basically & i am sold on those ranas. if u find a good one stick with her...lets just say there are many in pereira who aren't *fiel*...lots of mafia princescita there, just to to Mango Biche in the zona rosa in Dosquebradas and you'll get the idea...more silicona there than what i saw in cali!

kiwi comments on Leticia to Manaus

adrimm the fact that you're a gringa, (esp if u have blonde hair and blue/ green eyes) means the guys will be hitting on you left right and centre when they see there's no guy on your arm, (not that having a guy would stop them!). just accept it, there's no getting round it. do you speak spanish? do a search for leticia on this site and you'll find the cellphone number of the guide i used for a week when i was there recently, very trustworthy, he'll give you good advice. the amazon is not the place to be wandering around alone. while there i saw missing persons posters for at least 2 tourists, one a guy from argentina the other from bogota that had gone missing there. not trying to worry you, all will be fine. suerte!

kiwi comments on Leticia to Manaus

no problem to go that route Boats leave Leticia from the port in Tabatinga in Brazil (it's right next to Leticia, take a moto) I understand downstream Leticia to Manaus takes 4 days (6 days upstream with the strong current). The cost...well like anything in that part of the world, being very remote, it will set up back at least $200 US I would imagine. You just string up a hammock and settle in and enjoy the view. Lonely Planet or similar books will give you all details.

I was there 2 weeks ago, loved it. Next time I'm in Colombia I'll be going back and explore more! Go for it man!

kiwi comments on Learning Spanish by CD course , I am trying Pimsleur... What else do you all recommend ?

Michel Thomas Is another method, I used it when I was starting out learning Spanis. He sells an 8 CD course online, think I bought mine from amazon, but now you can probably get it from ebay or similar cheap (or just download it from the likes of kazza).

I met my (now ex) gf in London 2002, knew maybe 6 words, tried to impress her by counting to 10, couldn't get past 5! So I went full on, used Michel Thomas, a mate gave me a copy of Pimsleur, plus I read online newspapers, listened to spanish music, and generally immersed myself as much as I could. I just got back from 6 months in Colombia, my first ever trip, not the last, and now I'm pretty good, maybe 7 or 8 out of 10. Fluency takes years, but you don't need to be fluent to enjoy it and communicate. I constantly got compliments about my spanish, they really appreciate any seriously attempt to speak. Anyway good luck man, I've learn German, Russian, Thai over the years and Spanish is the easiest and BEST language I've ever studied, el español hasta la muerte! jeje

kiwi comments on no entry into Colombia without an electronic passport?

don't worry electronic or machine readable passports are simply the new style of passport, unless your passport is about 10 years old it will be fine. yours will be fine cause you've already been to the states haven't you? as of october last year no visitor to the USA was permitted unless they had a machine readable passport. like mrgizmo728 says it has a bar code down the side of the page your photo is on, this is read by a scanner at immigration. it will look something like this:
JOEROBERTBLOGGSNEWZEALANDPASSPORTNUMBEROTHERNUMBERS
enjoy colombia!

kiwi comments on first timer to colombia/cartagena

you no longer have to pay the 56,000 pesos this was stopped as of march, so at least some things go our way in DAS.

kiwi comments on Trip to colombia

i just got back after 6 months there hola susan, i'm from new zealand and i've just left after using my max 6 months tourist visa. no there aren't many aussies or kiwis there, i didn't meet any, but probably in bogota you'll find em. i met mainly people from usa, canada, europe and the uk. but from what i hear there are now a lot of colombians studying in aussie so you might make some friends there. personally i found that i could not or would not want to live full time in colombia despite how much i love the place, however i am looking at a business that may enable me to travel there frequently and live in nz. other foreigners find they are happy living there. i am jetlagged so will cut it short but will do some posts about my trip in the coming days.

and don't worry about chutzpah...no vale la pena.

kiwi comments on Am I getting paranoid?

this paranoia is insane i´ve been here 6 months, have used taxis, buses, chivas, collectivos, motos, metro, boats, canoes, donkeys virtually all over colombia, sober, blind drunk and all in between. 99% of the cabbies are keen to talk to a foreigner, give advice etc, very few will try to overcharge or not turn on the meter, then it´s just a case of saying no mejo with a smile, they will realise that they can´t try it on. 2 american guys i met were charged 60,000 pesos for a taxi ride in medellin, dunno how they got it that high, even medellin to the airport in rio negro is only 40,000, but anyway...if they spoke spanish they could have talked him round.

of course one day i may run into a cabbie with a machete under his seat ready to slice me up and hey it could happen. but so far so good. yesterday a guy was following me, pissing me off here in pereira. i stopped and told him to fuck off in spanish, but that is in the daytime with plenty of cops around, i wouldn´t do that a 3am.

i think a lot of people worry too much about safety, of course always take care, not risks and looking out for yourself is number 1 priority, but just go with the flow and enjoy your time here.

the only time i was worried was when some fucker was sending me death threats by text and following me with his buddies, but as it turned out he was only trying to scare me. if a colombian wants to take u out you´ll be 6 feet under b4 u know it, but i haven´t heard of any tourists ever being hurt, maimed or killed lately and i´ve been reading this board since 2002.

i´ll be leaving in 3 days, damn DAS rules about staying only 6 months, but i´m sure i´ll be back and am even more sure i´ll miss this crazy country as soon as i get back to new zealand...viva colombia!

kiwi comments on About traveling to Colombia (originally posted on 'is Medellin safe?' topic)

Leticia IS safe I went all round the Amazon region there, into Brazil and Peru, no worries....if you come to Colombia you have to visit this area, I found it to be one of the best places in my 6 months here. But the heat is a f***** killer.

kiwi comments on Trip to Leticia!

I`m in Leticia right now Arrived a week ago, just got back from hiking in the jungle, fantastic but I`m shattered from the heat. I booked my flight in Medellin on a Thurs and flew on the following Wed, note there are no flights on Tue or Thur and yes Aerorepublica is the only carrier servicing Leticia, all flights go via Bogota. Medellin-Bogota-Leticia return will set u back $700,000 Col pesos incl all taxes. I was supposed to fly back today but extended my stay another week, I love the place. Was in bed this morning when I heard my flight leave overhead at 11:30am, rolled over the went back to sleep...I`ll post some pics when I get them downloaded. If u want to hook up with a great guide I can recommend 100% the guy I was referred to. Just spent 6 days on a tour with him. His name is Juancho, cell is 3112066341. He`s Costeño but has been here years. I would trust this guy with my life, we went everywhere and he went out of his way to make sure I was happy, got the best photos, saw all the animals possible etc. I paid $1`850,000 Col pesos which included everything for the 6 days 5 nights. I bought a box of beer for the boat that was about it. And he let me bring my gf and her friend for 2 days at no extra cost.

kiwi comments on Trip to Leticia and Amazonas

$2,200 is a lot of cash I just arrived in Leticia, have got a full time quide to myself for the next 5 nights/6 days, EVERYTHING included for $1`850,000 COP, which I think is about US$800...and if I had some people to share the trip with I`d be paying only a portion of that amount. The guy I`ve hooked up with was recommended by a travel agency in Medellin, so far he`s been great, of course I`ll find out as we go along and will post his details if he`s good.

kiwi comments on Kiwi told to leave NZ

why couldn`t she stay after you got married? seems strange mate, sorry to hear about all that crap you went thru, had to sell your house and all, shit! i`m a new zealander in colombia and i always thought it pretty easy to stay there if you get married??? heaps of people do it.
btw i`ve been living in london for the last 5 years so i would like to know if there are many colombian living in nz? have got 1 mate only who is from bogota.
do you know anything about bringing workers over to nz...i`m trying to bring over some colombian guys to work in construction as there aren`t enough workers to fill the jobs in nz at the moment. anyway off the thread now, give me a PM is u want to chat.

kiwi comments on Now I'm getting death threats (and on Easter Friday)

sheep are safer... and they don`t know how to text, with those hooves and all that!

it`s tempting to give out this marica`s number but i think i`ll let sleeping dogs lie. plus i`ve got the messages saved for a rainy day.

and gringos in colombia, be aware that when a girl says she doesn`t have a bf and you get in touch with her u never know for sure. not wanting to stir up trouble or anything with colombian girls reading this. just that i everytime i`ve asked for someone`s number i`m given it, now surely all of those girls can`t be single...?

kiwi comments on Now I'm getting death threats (and on Easter Friday)

no more messages but i think this was all about a girl, someone who told me they don`t have a bf but obviously does. he read the texts and followed her and saw me with her is my guess. and no i haven`t slept with her nor even kissed her, but i won`t contact her anymore and it should cool down. my colombian friends say if i was gonna get taken out they don`t bother sending messages, just bullets, so it was more to scare than anything.

kiwi comments on Back to Pereria teaching english

hey Jon, let`s meet up I`m living in Pereira, know the place pretty well, even had an interview with that Directora of Colombo Americano - not my kinda place to work I have to say, too formal. But anyway since you`re here in Pereira we can meet up for a beer & swap experiences if you want. My celular is 311 3648892. And don`t let anyone knock Pereira it is a cool place, even though places like Medellin have a lot more to offer.

kiwi comments on Pereira to Medellin and Back to Pereira.

relax and enjoy the cheap bus ride don´t waste your cash flying, the one way fare on the top bus line is $30,000 pesos, takes 4-5 hours. as for safety don´t be paranoid, i just went from Santa Marta to Medellin on an overnight bus, 16 hours, cost $70,000 pesos, no problemo.

kiwi comments on UK national in Colombia with tourist visa- what work is possible?

we`re all doing it....shhhhhh! i won`t tell if u won`t.

kiwi comments on Colombians in Australia

How about Colombians in New Zealand? I know only of one, a mate I used to work with in Auckland. Anyone know if there are many Colombians there?

kiwi comments on Would like someones opinion please!!!!

sorry but he would have fucked his brains out dump him and try to move on, most colombian guys cheat when living with a wife/partner (hey don`t deny it, we all know it`s true), how do you think he would have acted on his own, and in CALI of all places...!

kiwi comments on Are all Colombian people wonderful. Are all colombiam women angels

Colombia not perfect but hey... I agree with you Colin, this website does tend to romantisise Colombia. Most men are interested in Colombia due to having a Colombian spouse, wife, gf etc (myself included). When I met my gf in London in 2002 I didn´t know anything about the place other than it sells a stack of coke to the States.

Nearly 3 yrs on, I´ve quit London and we´re living in Colombia. Do some things piss me off here, sure. But on the whole I am enjoying the place, people, food, rumba, eye candy and general vibe. Being able to speak Spanish wherever I go helps. But if you´re sitting on the fence, wondering whether to come or not, keep your house in London, come here for about 3 months, travel around, meet her family, learn Spanish and see how it goes. You´ll either love it or hate it, I don´t think there is an in-between.

I´ve been here 40 days, am off to Bogota tomorrow to sort out my visa to stay here 1 year. After that who knows. I´m in no hurry to leave and talking to my mates back in London, I could not go back to that shitty English winter ever again.

As far as madminx69´s comments about Colombians being the most unwelcoming, rude and unhelpful...all I can say dude is you went to a different Colombia than I´m living in! No es asi.

feria de Manizales I`m in Cali but hope to get to Manizales this w-end to catch the feria, when does it finish, anyone know?
I was in Manizales a couple of weeks ago just for the day, it is very hilly, a lot colder than say Cali, a bit colder than Pereira. The whole cafetero region is worth a visit.

I think when I leave Cali I won`t be back in a hurry, just doesn`t do it for me. Perhaps if I was single, I could go hang out a Juanchito or Av 6 with Caleñas. They seem to make a lot of eye contact I`ve noticed, even when I`m walking with my gf. But I`ve said it before and I`ll say it again, give me a PAISA mamacita anyday...

kiwi comments on Pereira

Litost hey dude, well when i went to Manizales i wanted to stop & buy some chorizo in santa rosa cause they say its the best in all colombia! but we didn`t stop. but we have plans to go to the termal aguas, got the info about it the other day. looks cool. best to go at nite or day? now i got a comcell prepago so i will give u call. mine is 3113648892.

try 30 years older My gf´s 50 yr old uncle has a 20 yr old gf. He was shot in the stomach a few years ago, so doesn´t work, is bald, no money, not great looking, and his gf, well lets just say she is not bad looking with great potential upstairs if u know what i mean. Go figure. She seems to love him.

kiwi comments on Pereira

Armenia Maureen, I liked Armenia, walked around the town, reminded me of Pereira. You have to be careful when saying what you like and don´t cause today I was asked what I thought of Manizales by a guy, I told him when I was there it rained like hell, was freezing & I didn´t think much of the place. Turns out the guy is from Manizales and got pissed off, rightly so I guess´.

Roofus, mate u know the women always have the final say, don´t try to win little battles you´ll end up losing the war! Seriously I´m keen to go live in Cali for a while. Are u from Medellin? I´m always hearing how nice it is there. Will go there sometime next yr. Hope to see all of Colombia while I´m here for the year.

As far as women go, I would say the women of Pereira would rival their caleña primas for beauty any day...who´s with me on that one?

kiwi comments on f***** mobile phones in Colombia

thanks guys Thanks for explaining the frequencies, that´s why my phone won´t work. My gf´s brother here in Pereira uses a Comcel prepago, he reckons the service is good. And u can text to BellSouth, whereas u can´t text yet from bellsouth to Ola or Comcell.
So I think I´ll buy a Comcel prepago.
BTW Pereira is cool, went to Quimbaya last nite for the Day of the Virgin festival, the whole pueblo was lit up. Will try to post some pics sometime. I think i like it more than Cali as I´m not sweating my ass off here 24-7!

ATMs that use the "PLUS" system Hola amigos,
My card I'll be using to withdraw pesos from ATMs has a PLUS sign on it, I assume its similar to CIRRUS or MAESTRO. Do the ATMs in Cali have this available? Don't thinks its as widely used as the others.

kiwi comments on Any Australians visiting Colombia ?

Hola any Kiwis out there Sorry for hijacking yr thread Aussies! I'm New Zealand born, living in London & heading to Colombia next mth for a yr or more. Be interested to hear from any Kiwis in Colombia.

BTW, does anyone know if there are lots of Colombians living in Aus/NZ? Here in London I hear Español spoken on the street/bus everyday. But I don't think there are many living downunder.

Looking forward to my 1st Navidad in Colombia...!

kiwi comments on which city...

colombian mujeres Heat, I dunno why so many Colombianas many foreign guys. I've had gf's in the past from NZ, Aussie, Russia, Iran, Thailand, England, Germany etc, seems I've always had a foreign gf & studied their language for some reason!
Anyhoo, I can say that my Colombian gf who I've been with now for 2 yrs is the most wonderful girl I've ever met. And I have met dozens of other Colombians since & they are lovely people too.
And I can also say that I would only be interested in Colombian women from now on no matter what happens. Perhaps other guys feel like this also.
I feel luckly that I said hello to my gf while we were waiting for the lift in my office in Jul 2002, as my life has changed for the better since meeting her by chance like that. At that time I couldn't have even pointed to Colombia on a world map or spelt it Columbia...now I've going to live there for a year! Viva Locombia!
