kfc2801 comments on Calling to the USA from Colombia? Is there a Cheap way to do it?

Ok I admit it. I am somewhat ignorant with all of this skype, vonage, phone stuff. I am using a company right now called Pingo long distance. I can call my wife at her house for .04 cents per minute and her cell phone is .12 per minute. Anytime she calls me its .17 cents per minute. I pay pingo about $100 to $150 per month. That includes her calling me and I her. (one pingo account that I fund) . Sounds to me that Skype is the way to go. Buy it here set it up here then take it to Colombia and set it up on her computer there. That does not work when I call her cell phone though does it? KFC

Hello, We had a church wedding in Bogota on a Thursday night then flew to San Andres and was married there by the magistrate. Tthe Church wedding we celebrate with large family and consider that date for Anniversary. But for Visa papers the day we were married at notary is for documents................. kfc

Hello, The temptation to jump in here is so great. But I will refrain because it it a pleasent day to day. I love Bogota and next week I will spend 2 weeks in Santa Marta, A beautiful region. I have a top ten list of things I like and dislike about Bogota but It would just anger people. Who wants all of that negative emotions. I just want everyone to get alone together. It really is a small planet we all share. Can we all just hold hands and sing together and play the guitar. Can we just dance and sway to the music in peace and love... KFC

kfc2801 comments on K1 Visa compared to K3 Spouse Visa

Hey, Many thanks. I have submitted the I-130 allready with the $190 fee. The post office has confirmed delivery of my package. The check has not cleared the bank and I have gotten nothing from USCIS. I am waiting for I file the I-129F for the "proof" that I have the I-130 has been filed. kfc

kfc2801 comments on K1 Visa compared to K3 Spouse Visa

Hello, The I-129F is the form needed to apply for the K1 as well as the K3. It is my understanding that she can get a non-immigrant (K3) visa and come here to USA while waiting for permanant status. The I-129F is the almost exact same form as the I-130 and even asks for the same documentation. I keep a chat log of all our conversations and I also have detailed billing for all our phone calls. I hope its six months or better. I am spending a small fortune flying to ans from Bogota every month. However I have noticed a rather sharp decline in air fare lately. many thanks KFC

I think that political extortion is the more correct term.......Colombia lost the Panama region but was able to settle the San Andres issue. Like I said quid pro quo. I am going to get the exact dates of all of this tomorrow. Its been a long time since American History. I dont like speaking in vague terms. KFC

by my own admition it has been several years since I read about the Panama Canal. But there was a civil war of such when Panama gained its indepenence from then Gran Republic of Colombia or such. Anyway, The Roosevelt administration wanted to take up were the French had left off with the Canal. There was a lot of concern about US having power and influence in the region so we basically fanned the flames sort of speak of the Civil War. It was on an American Battleship that the final peace treaty was signed around the turn of the century. It was shortly right after that Roosevelt began work on the Canal. Some 15 to 20 years later When Nicarauga was under American "control" that a long standing dispute concering the Islands was resolved by an American backed treaty which I am sorry to say I cant think of right now. It was a quid pro qou to Colombia who had threatened to expose Americans involvement in the Panama Civil War........... This is a vauge summary as I understand it. Thanks KFC

I agree fully that the gluttony that is here creates problems. It amazes me at times to see a family of 3 in a SUV built for 8 cruising down the road. Its because of this that we have such a dependacy upon oil. That withstanding, the corruption of goverment officials within your country with bribes and payoffs made it impossible to rule your country with any significant results. Also the asasination of anyone who even would attenpt to make a difference. There was never a time while I was in Bogota that I felt danger or in trouble. This could not be said of say.....8, 9 years ago. I still get concerned when I see a very young policeman carrying a maching gun walking down the street but....I am glad he is there. Here in America, yes I did say America, I can atleast go for a nice drive in the country side without worrying about getting kidnapped or killed. So there is still a long way to go....do you agree? Now, as far as imports is concerned I did not do and exhaustive list but simply named the top few that came to my head. I did say coffee, flowers (which makes up 2\3 of the american florist business) gold and Emeralds. We do import "black gold" or 'Texas tea', fruit, lot and lots of fruit, also high on the list is Leather goods which I was suprised to see. I could go on and on if needed....... If I were to guess at what American contribution to Colombia that I personally enjoyed would be San Andres Islands. Do you know how that became Colombian territiory. Its a wonderful story. But of course Colombia did give up a little land for it. Those damn Americans and their canal. KFC

Hey, I am so unqualified to jump into the fray of this debate. I am also the first to say that if I'm wrong I'm wrong. Having been to Colombia twice and for brief amounts of time I can say that anti-American sentiment is high in Colombia. I love my wife and her family but I often wonder how they really feel about me being an American married into their family. I often find myself reminding them of their current history. During the 80's when Escobar was on the run and commiting all kinds of atrocities who was it that Colombian Goverment turned too? He was even so bold as to attack the Capital in Bogota. the 80's and 90's were a very violent time for Colombia? Is it not much better now? and if yes....then Why? Could it be the hundreds of millions of dollars that is sent to Colombia every year not just to fight drugs but also to fight poverty. Also, trade. We currently have a huge trade deficit with Colombia. Coffee, Flowers, gold, and Emeralds flood this country every year from Colombia. I would prefer that you just say THANK YOU and lets go have a beer. KFC

Hello, Its funny. I had this same conversation with my precious Colombian wife just this past Thursday. I told her that Colombians were not Americans that they were Colombians. I further tried to explain that she was from Bogota Colombia, NOT Bogota South America. One is identified by their country's name not the continent in which said country is located. You can refer to people who are South Americans as such, but when you do you are speaking in general terms to a whole group of nations. The same is said when you refer to North Americans. That is a generl term for Canada, Mexico, and the United States of (fill in this part) Right?

kfc2801 comments on San Andres Marriage Certificate

Hello,
I was married in SA a couple of weeks ago. June 7th to be exact. I came home to USA and my wife went to the Superintendence office and filed our marrige certificate in Bogota. We did this because the SA notary was almost insistant that we do it. He even gave us written directions and instructions.......I to this day do not know why we had to do this. I have sent off my I-130 packet this past Friday. I did NOT apostille the marrige certificate. I did have a certified translator here in the states to translate. I was told that this was all that was needed.......QUESTION: Is it unreasonable to expect that my wife and step-daughter will be here with me by Christmas?? Airfare to Bogota is killing me!!

kfc2801 comments on Legality of religious weddings

Certificate of Singlehood ? Hello,
I just called my local courthouse and asked them If I could get a Certificate of singlehood. After explaining to them what that was they informed me they do not do such letters. Is this going to be a problem?

kfc2801 comments on Legality of religious weddings

Colombian Marrige Information My fiancee' has a large family in Bogota. We have therefore decided to have our wedding in Bogota. She emailed me telling me that we actually have two ceremonies. One at the magistrate and the other at the Church. Two wedding services this seems odd to me. Is this the correct procedure?

Also for the magistrate service Im told that I need a Birth certificate, copy of passport, divorce decree from first marrige, and a certificate of singlehood from my local county. All these documents need to be translated within 90 days....

Lastly, I read in here that that a Church wedding is legal. If a Church wedding, and we both are non catholic, protestant, is legal then where dod you get the marrige certificate that you would register at the magistrate.

Thanks for your help.
