Babar ,Mr. Babillas , and Tu Candela (my three favorites). don't bring American money. When you get there find a good ATM (there is one right across the street from Decameron) and withdrawal money there. Take advantage of the free beer and drinks. I know i certainly did. And don't expect to bring any chicks in the hotel. They will try to charge you $60 a person per night if you do. if need be, find a rent by the hour type place. I found one close for 20K pesos. Don't say we didn't warn you not to stay there. It really isn't that bad but there are much better options. And be prepared to sweat your ass off since the AC sucks.

I had a DUI in 2004 and no questions asked and no problems getting in Colombia. (two times i have been) I have heard Canada may deny you entry over minor offenses like a DUI. Don't know details of that though.

Another option would be to exchange at Decamaron Hotel. - - - Don't listen to this advice but it is an option. I stayed at the Decameron and did this (will never stay there again) You will get a shit exchange rate. 1800/1 compared to 2000/1 (assuming that is the going rate at the time)

Then her friend thought my friend looked like Jim Carrey. I about keeled over laughing. The chicks I guess thought the Jim Carrey comment was a compliment. My friend didn't particularly care for the comment. LOL.

The Chiva bus is a different experience. It's only for a few hours and you can do early in the evening prior to hitting the nightclubs. I had a good time. BUT...it's BYOC. Bring your own Colombiana. :)

Haven't been to Ibiza. Would love to but exchange rate is unfavorable right now and heard Ibiza is pricey. I get the same effect in South Beach, Miami without having to pay for the expensive flight. Am sure Ibiza is probably crazier and better than Miami. It's on my places to go list though. Top 10 definitely.

I like Babar for electronica. They tend to play the more mainstream commercial house along with some crossover reggaeton. Not bad though. Yah they had a killer lineup. Probably the best lineup you can find anywhere outside of WMC in Miami. http://www.summerdancefestival.com/ I may try to go to this next year. It is always the first week in January. I would have to book really really early. When I looked for flights they were expensive as hell which was the main reason I didn't even bother going.

Honestly you won't really care too much about what music they spin. If you want electronica I heard the summer dance festival (ULTRAMAR) is sweet. However, that was a few weeks back after NYE. The likes of Roger Sanchez, Van Dyke. best DJ's in the world for 4-5 days. I wanted to go but the prices that time of year are triple everything. (flights, hotels, etc.)

Rumba Chiva Bus --- is a BLAST!!! Especially if you bring your own girls with you. I can't remember for sure but it was around $10. ?? Plus it will give you a tour of the city. Def bring a few beers with you.

Don't do it anywhere but an ATM. You can also go into a bank and ask to charge to your credit card for cash. You will get the published exchange rate from your credit card company and may get charged a few dollars for the transaction. ONLY WAYS TO GO!!! Airport may give you 1800/1 when the real exchange rate is roughly 2000/1. For all means don't do it in bar.

I loved Mr. Babillas. Good sound system and tunes. My favorite club in Cartagena. There are several other bars/clubs on the same street. Babar (dance club) in the old city was nice. Although it seemed more like a bring a date danceclub. Tu Candela in the old city was fun. (went to it on a Sunday night) Some of these clubs are considered expensive by some standards. However, if I can go into a club and drink for six hours heavy, pay for my buddy, (who pays the tab the next night) and buy girls drinks all night for less than $150 that isn't too bad. AGUARDIENTE anyone? :) Hell, I remember on a few occassions we did that in Miami and it was upwards of $500

Don't cheap out during Semana Santa...Semana Santa rates are still a lot cheaper than going to NYC or Miami e.g. Morph: "Theres nothing to do in Rio except get drunk and pick up whores." My kind of vacation!!! Sounds like what I did every day in Cartagena. Or any other beach vacation for that matter or every time I go out on the weekends in my hometown. :)

Semana Santa aka holy week you will enjoy Cartagena. That is the week I am going to RIO. This year it is March 15-23. Ending on Easter Sunday. I believe everyone is on holiday and the beaches will be packed. Not only will you have the local costenas, girls from Medellin, Cali, Bogota will venture to the beach. Personally, I like the Cali and Medellin girls. Having said that, if you go this week you will have a BLAST! Viva Colombia! Rent an apartment in Carta and don't stay in a hotel.

I am going to Rio in March and have never been. I will make sure I give a complete report. I have been to Cartagena twice and enjoyed Carta. First time was in March and second in June. June was decent not great. Too hot in June. High of 90 and low of 80. (mucho sudando todos los dias) March was different. More crowded and there was plenty of women, nightlife, and fun. The friend of mine I went with in June to Carta has been to Rio. He stated Cartagena is good but NOTHING compared to Rio. His exact words were...Rio is the holy grail! Beach sucks in Carta and loaded with vendors (aka vultures) who will annoy the crap out of you. Nightlife in Carta is excellent - I enjoyed Mr. Babillas, Babar, Tu Candela. I went on a chiva bus w/ a bunch of Colombianas once and had a blast. Went on a carriage ride once thru old city w/ a chick. Snnnzzz... From what I can tell as far as landscaping RIO is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I mean you have Christ the Redeemer for God's sake. You can't beat the views in Rio anywhere in the world. The old city in Cartagena is cool but the rest is average at best. El castillo is pretty cool. I would go back to Carta...how often do you go on a trip and in 9 total nights in Carta I never come home alone. (and not paid for) Granted 5 of those nights was with the same chick. :) Good luck and happy hunting.

Girls were OK around Decameron. Maybe half a dozen good ones to chooose from. Carta was great. I went in June and it was OK. Went in March and it was much better. I imagine now it's a great time to be there. One thing I hated about the decameron was you couldn't control the AC and the rooms were already hot. Seemed like I was always sweating. And it's friggin hot in Cartagena. (mucho sudando)

Both times I went to Colombia last spring and summer I had a girlfriend every night!! Not a problem with any of them. :) Find a girl, move on to the next if there are problems. Be a beach vendor in Cartagena! Or a pimp. :) I think your tourist visa is good for 90 days if I am mistaken. Maybe it's 180 I don't recall. Better to save $ in the US then try to make money in Colombia.

My buddy went thru the same thing. If you don't have a bracelet, you don't get in w/ out paying like $60 or something for the night even just to visit for an hour. Find extra bracelets somehow and you are golden. :) We even paid gringo prices $280 a person for five days. We thought we were getting a good deal. NOT! The avianca flight attendants I hung out w/ the whole time had a nice separate bedroom and paid half that for the same amount of time.
