kalder comments on Favorite 60s and 70s Television There was one US TV show that we had in Britain when I was a kid that I absolutely adored: Sgt. Bilko.

kalder comments on are you from the usa and have you be a victim of gangs The police can't or won't deal with it. If citizens try to do anything the gangs will kill them or, if they're lucky, they'll find themselves prosecuted by the PC, limp-wristed bunch of pious liberals who make up contemporary law enforcement. Personally, I'd like to see the gangs beaten bloody and then set on fire.

kalder comments on Scottys story John- I'm listening to The Belmonts, The Elegants, Bobby Darin and so on tonight. As I recall, that's your kind of music. Thinking of you. God bless.

kalder comments on why a welfare system is so important in a civilised nation I agree with you totally. In principle. But it must also be borne in mind that a too extensive welfare system can be harmful to a society, ie: It erodes reliance on self and family and community values. As in most things we need a balance- the welfare system of the 50s which aided people who were genuinely in distress seemed to work; unlike the contemporay version which pays petty criminals to sit about on their arses all day smoking weed or provides free accommodation, beer and cigarette money for scrubbers with ten kids by ten different men. What might be preferable to taxpayers funding an ever increasing parasitical underclass might be compulsory work programmes. For sure let's feed, clothe and house the destitute, but, as much for themselves as the interests of wider society, let them actually earn it.

kalder comments on can love be created "...it is not a noun, it's a verb." I agree with you there Doug.

kalder comments on Colombianos en Estados Unidos Why should anyone be proud of their roots? They're hardly a token of personal achievement.

kalder comments on Can I retire at my age with my savings 10million for a decent standard of living? That's about £3000. Well in excess of the average British takehome. You must be used to the finer things in life.

kalder comments on why do colombians think the USA is the best country to live in I liked some of his policies but his cuddling up to terrorists and dictators and bleating on about right-on causes, showed him to be just another bully-worshipping, tradition-hating commie demagogue.

kalder comments on why do colombians think the USA is the best country to live in Arguably, Harold Wilson was a 'European socialist'...
Best PM we ever had.
Which isn't saying much, but still...

kalder comments on why cant we create changes in our lives I know I've been taking the piss, but I do empathise with you. You do a demanding and often thankless job; you have a lot of responsibilities; and you're at the age when a man starts to ask himself 'is this all there is?' What do you think you can do to change your life tony?
kalder comments on why cant we create changes in our lives Not having money will stop you from changing your life in the following ways: 1. Retraining for a more satisfying career. 2. Retiring early. 3. Starting a business. 4. Acquiring a mistress. Without much money, I daresay you could: 1. Adopt a healthy lifestyle. 2. Take up religion. 3. Involve yourself in local community projects. 4. Acquire an autodidactic education.

kalder comments on Colombian paramilitary warlords extradited This is one of the reasons I'm pro-US. At least there's one place in the world with the will, muscle and sense of justice to give squalid gangsters like those mentioned above their just desserts.

kalder comments on Colombian paramilitary warlords extradited Wondeful news. I saw that evil bastard Jorge 40 on TV last year. I hope you Yanks lock him and the others up for a thousand years in a windowless concrete tomb.

kalder comments on Scottys story I wish you all the luck in the world John. Your forthcoming treatment sounds quite an ordeal. But you're looking at it in the eye alright. You're the right stuff. God bless, take care and keep us posted.

kalder comments on why cant we create changes in our lives And maybe slguy could use some of those teenagers as galley slaves, to keep down costs and let him spend more money on boaty electronics. Perhaps in winter, when it's a bit choppy out there, he could have some wheels attached to his boat...
kalder comments on why cant we create changes in our lives Perhaps you wouldn't need to pay them either. Then, instead of being slaves to mortgage repayment, they could be slaves to another person's house.
kalder comments on why cant we create changes in our lives Houses with wheels is a good idea though. Think how many wheels you'd need! It'd do wonders for the wheel industry. And you could harness your house to teams of sturdy teenagers, who could haul you around the countryside- keeping themselves out of the unemployment statistics, while you corner the market in kettle repair and fortune telling.

kalder comments on why cant we create changes in our lives Perhaps you could sell white heather or mend frying pans.

kalder comments on why cant we create changes in our lives You won't be very free in that caravan if you haven't got a job.

kalder comments on can love be created I suspect if two complete strangers were looking into each others' eyes 'with joy', then the 'intimacy' had already happened.

kalder comments on why do colombians think the USA is the best country to live in How many non-lunatic posters would actually want to be a moderator? It looks really boring.

kalder comments on Spain Enforces Coastal Property Laws; Owners Fear Loss of Homes The irony being that it was the PSOE barons in the coastal towns who were largely responsible for flogging that land off to developers in the first palce.

kalder comments on Local Safety Issues Central Colombia My wife's Valluna and calls back almost nightly. She says it's safer now than ever, if anything. Perhaps your wife's stories are confined to distinct locales. Some details would be appreciated.

kalder comments on why do colombians think the USA is the best country to live in It's fashionable now to talk about 'intelligences', eg: linguistic, spatial, interpersonal, physical etc.
kalder comments on why do colombians think the USA is the best country to live in It's not completely unfounded. To get a good degree from (say) one of the top 50 UK universities requires plenty of intelligence.

kalder comments on inside the confessional Oh! Got it now. Thank you Desi. And there's me calling the kid retarded...
kalder comments on inside the confessional I still don't get it :( Not to worry: I'm enjoying it as one of those 'growing up Italian in New York' stories. Like 'The Wanderers' or 'A Bronx Tale'.
kalder comments on inside the confessional I appreciate that the kid's both horny and retarded, but surely even for him it's a bit of a stretch to construe that from "100 hail maries"?
