juicerbud comments on Colombian Drivers Licence in the United States In NJ, if you are driving alone and you get stopped, the car gets towed and you go to jail until someone gets you. If you are with someone, they have to take over the driving and you get a big ticket. Double check with the embassy.

juicerbud comments on marriage in Cali You can get translations online if you cannot find a translator near you. Just do a google search, you can fax or email the the document and they will send you a certified translation. It is a racket, all it is is a person that can speak english and spanish typing up the translation and someone else notarizing their signature. As far as the seal, in the states, you have to go to the state capital, I am not sure about Canada. I think your local municipality can steer you in the right direction. Good luck!

juicerbud comments on marriage in Cali I was married in Cali to a Colombian last January. PM me if you have any questions. The most important advice I got from PBH was to talk to the notary first and find out exactly what you need from them bc it can change from notary to notary. We used notory 19 and they were great! All I needed to bring from the US was my birth certificate with the Apostille seal issued within 90 days (translated), a certificate of single hood (translated, search here for the format) and my passport. The day you get married, have someone bring wet naps or baby wipes to get the ink off you finger so you don't ruin your dress. I would seek out the notary before you give money to a lawyer, I don't think you will need one.

juicerbud comments on Where are the Colombians in New Jersey? Rico Pan among others are in Hackettstown. There seems to be new restaurants and shops there all the time. I use a Colombian store to send my packages to Cali. It is like Dover West. I live in the middle of nowhere and Hackettstown is the closest place for me to get colombian bakery goodies. Also, I love Jersey!!! Last night, in Cali, my husband and I were missing Jersey.

juicerbud comments on Apostilles, References, Translations and Certificate of Singlness Samples... Maria, You should go to trenton office of vital statistics and they can give you a notarized BC. Then you need to take it across town for the Apostille. After that, you should be all set. I think only NJ can produce NJ BC's. You can check online. Greg Y - Good Luck and congratulations!

juicerbud comments on Apostilles, References, Translations and Certificate of Singlness Samples... New Jersey New Jersey has an official Certificate of Singlehood that you can get from the vital statistics office in Trenton. It is the same place that you get your birth certificate. You can't just take your regular birth certificate, you need one issued by the state. You then need to take these docs across town for the Apostille seal. Keep in mind that the Apostille seal takes 8 hours or so which means you need to arrange to have it picked up the next day or arrange to have it mailed to you prepaid. In NJ, the state will not put an Apostille on a translation, only on the documents issued by the state. The notary seal is okay for these documents. If you are in NJ and need a certified translation, many spanish travel agencies have this service. They basically translate your documents and then have another person in the office notarize their signature. Good Luck!

juicerbud comments on Mc Cain in COL Exactly MM. If McCain wins (which I honestly believe will not happen), the US needs to brace themselves for 4 more years of getting deeper and deeper into this mess we are in. And our already stretched troops will be heading to Iran too!

juicerbud comments on So I am kinda of dissapointed of Queens and Roosevelt Avenue. Same goes for the Dover video, Thanks!

juicerbud comments on Marriage for citizenship Catgirl, true. But I am still against it and it is still illegal. I have seen what too many real families have gone through, albeit, that is immigrating to the US not Colombia. Maybe I need a new thread, but I would like to know what is required to drive in Colombia.
|
|
juicerbud comments on Marriage for citizenship It is illegal!!! It is this kind of behavior that makes the immigration process more difficult for real families.

juicerbud comments on What's your reccomondation for calling a colombian cell from the U.S.? I swear by Orbital to call direct to a cell. I bought a bunch of $2 cards and from NJ this one is the best. Careful buying online credits (other than Skype) their rates tend to cover a 1 mile area.

juicerbud comments on Best rum deal in Colombia I am so sad.... I was in Cali without a computer and I missed this very important information. Man, that stinks. Good thing I filled up while I was there!!! Thanks Robert, I'll try to get a stash ready for my summer trip.

juicerbud comments on bilingual schools for kids in santa marta...expensive?! Natalia, Good article. I strongly believe that those same kids would have gone to the same colleges regardless of whether or not they went to those prep schools. I could be wrong, but those all of those seem to be high schools that are difficult and expensive to get into, thus accepting the same kids that would have gone Ivy anyway. I am not saying they aren't good schools with good reputations, but I am saying that they don't just take average kids and turn them into Ivy Leaguers. Rather they take Ivy Leaguers and keep them Ivy Leaguers. Plus, parents that send their kids there are already showing that they care about their kids education. Kids that come from homes where education is a priority are much more successful students. Mononoke28 - the money for private schools (non-Catholic) gets spread around for the facilities and staff. Whereas taxpayers pay this for public schools with their taxes. School budgets, private and public, are huge. Catholic schools are subsidized by the church and tend to be much less expensive than non-catholic private schools. That is the theory behind non-catholics paying more - they figure they aren't coughing it up at the collection plate.

juicerbud comments on bilingual schools for kids in santa marta...expensive?! It just boils down to money. Public schools in wealthy areas (US) send just as many kids to Ivy with Scholarships as private. As a teacher, I would not work in a private US school because the pay and benefits are so low. I have a friend that teaches Sarah Jessica Parker's kids in a private NYC school that makes less than I do at my public school and has fewer benefits. As a rule, the better, more educated, teachers, teach in public schools. On the East Coast, teachers who are out of work or just getting started go private until they can get a public job. Plus, the standards are not as high to teach in some private schools as far as educational background. I realize it is not the same in Colombia, and as such, I might be joining the ranks of private school teachers there in a year or two.

juicerbud comments on NYT: A Paisa taking over the PGA (Golf) - Camilo Villegas I've been following him for a couple years, including 3 US Opens and I was the only fan that followed him from hole to hole. After Oakmont, the golf media was in love with him. Many golf commentators and writers agree he will have his day. They say he could be the next Tiger Woods, although it is hard to ignore Tiger's winning streak and his ability to keep up his level for years to come. Camilo has already earned over $200,000 in tourny play this year. That's not Tiger money, but it is good money. Of course, the big money he is making is in endorsements. He is fun to watch and I wish him the best!

juicerbud comments on This isn't me. I resent your insinuation fecherklyn, I am glad you said this. I can't stand racism no matter where it is coming from or who it is pointed toward. Unfortunately, PBH seems to be a forum for a few people. Too many times when questions are asked, the answer is to google it or to call them a mole or turn the conversation perverse or racist. I have been observing for awhile now and last time I made a post I got grief. I just don't think this was the intent of PBH. Good luck to you and your wife.

juicerbud comments on losemyheads I just got married in Colombia. You or your fiance needs to find a notary and get a list from them of what you will need. You will need a birth certificate certified from your state capital with your state seal, a certificate of singlehood from the the same office and your passport. All these documents then need to be translated into spanish and notorized. Where are you living now and where in colombia do you want to live?

juicerbud comments on lawyer CO A response to my post about going to Colombia to marry my Colombian Fiance (I am American) it was suggested that I contact you. I was told by my attorney that my fiance could be here in less than two years. I also heard from others that he may never be allowed here or at least a 10 year wait since he was deported for staying beyond his visa limits. He has recently left the detention center in Elizabeth, NJ and is now in Colombia. He has no criminal record. We have been engaged for over a year, but waited too long for our wedding. Could you point me in the right direction. I want to marry him asap, but we want to live in the states. Thank you!
