Lefty PCL is right ..a real conversation is out...personally I have been to Chango I think its overated and too far and I live in the north....try Mangoviche in Menga...they play a lot of salsa but is more crossover.. good rumba....Kukaramakara near pasarela ..I think it's in barrio San vicente off 5th av. near deportiva Cali...they have a live band ...when the bands on break they play great salsa....If you want to kick it with locals try La Comadre club .....I have been to all these clubs several times never had a bad time .If you have to go Sexta...upstairs at El Viejo Barril ...the music is always good and your off the street. good luck if you find something let us in on it.

jpseast comments on Driving license within 1 week for a foreigner I have a florida DL and a Colombian DL ...if I get stopped for traffic violation I hand them the one from florida...and speak my worst spanish...they let me go with a warning ...if it's a road checkpoint I show my Co. licence and cedula de extranjero...but as gringo said any foreigner with a valid dl does not need a Colombian DL

jpseast comments on RECOMMENDED HOSTELS OR HOTELS IN POBLADO SECTION 61 Prado Guesthouse is very nice and priced right.....2 blocks from the Metro....I just stayed for 4 nights for the ferias de las flores....it was very comfortable....Luc and his significant other ( forgot her name) were very friendly and helpful with any ?'s about Medellin...where to go what to do... jpseast comments on ROOM TO RENT, CALI Chilly, barrio Ciudad Modelo is in the south and barrio Santa Monica is in the north up the hill behind Chipichape is where the house is located...about 20 minutes by car..depending on traffic....the daily rate is $ 100.000 pesos....That includes breakfast and if you are around at lunch you are welcome as well if you would like to see fotos pm me and I will send a few. Jim, there is no AC but plenty of fresh breeze as I am located in the hills at the edge of the city (And also has private POOL)

Having had Gastric Bypass Surgery in 2004 I will comment....having lost more than 100 lbs twice and regaining them, I had the procedure in 2004...it is life changing and requires life style changes ...but well worth it. My son is 23 and qualifies for the surgery...I live in Cali and did research here...there a many surgeons that do them here..I spoke with one at Clinica Imbanaco who quoted me 15 million pesos for either a gastric sleeve( a procedure less invasive) or the or the bypass ( very effective if one sticks to the post Op protocol) that is approximatley $ 7500 US...if I can help have your friend PM me because he is the one who really needs to be looking for the help...good luck

jpseast comments on A Man Was Killed In Cali By Transvestites I live in Santa Monica ...the trannys have their territorys...calle 21 y calle 20 con av 9...before I moved up the hill more and before I had a car I would have to walk right past groups of them...apart from the usual aaaiii papi cat calls and once one actually grabbed my crotch I simply took HIS/HER hand with a nice tight grip and moved it away said no thank you and never stopped walking . other than that incident i have never been bothered...I think if you walk like you know what your doing and know where you are going ....even if you don't people tend to respect your space.....The trannys in that area are known to be aggressive ...but usually someone instigates them somehow....I personally witnessed from a half a block away an incident that ended with guns pulled and leveled at the head of an aggressive tranny who had a bottle in his hand ready to cut someone...the gun belonged to a passerby who because he saw what was happening and tried to help what appeard to be the victim....remember that they hang out in groups drinking and smoking weed...so they can be pretty bold....my little advice is if you can avoid the areas where they hang out ...do it.
