joshhyman comments on You know you are NOT in Colombia when ........ When a lady can go out in jeans and sneakers and not feel ashamed... When you go to buy something and the store has no salespeople to help you.... When you can go to an ATM in the middle of the city and withdraw money without security.... When your waiter at a fancy restaurant makes more money than you do.... When some kid goes to a school and shoots other innocent kids then kills himself and he comes from a rich home..... When great music is playing at a house party and nobody dances....(probably nobody CAN dance) When someone hears that you are from Colombia or have been to Colombia and asks you if Colombia is near Poland.... When people think of Colombians as dirt poor, violent drug users and pushers when they have never heard of Shakira, Botero or Marquez....all #1's in thier crafts, in the world....

joshhyman comments on When did FARC Change? Thank you Sr Tertius for your intelligent comments. You make good points. There is always a gray area in life. However, you say: I'm not trying to put the Colombian military (an institution that is largely controlled by democratically elected civilians) at the same level of FARC (which is little more than organized crime with political ambitions). To me, and I may be naive, since the FARC is not a democratically elected body they are simply criminals. The use of violence is not needed to make political change as proved by Ghandi, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Nelson Mandela. The fact that they use violence and terrorism in the face of knowing that it doesn't work for them shows they have no real political agenda and only use the voice of one for an excuse.

joshhyman comments on When did FARC Change? The reason why I said that is because they continue to do the same things over and over with the same results. The only explanation could be that they want to keep generating the money machine. It's not like they have been doing this for a few years. It's been decades now. Decades without progress towards their original reason for inception. They have stopped all political avenues and have not appealed to outside governments for political help. All they do is generate money via illegal criminal acts without any political gains. And I don't appreciate you telling me I am talking out of my ass. I wish you were raised by better parents.

joshhyman comments on When did FARC Change? Look, they commit criminal acts against innocent civilians. They have been directly linked to drug trafficking. They have been declared a terrorist organization by the US government. They have had many volunteers leave and tell the truth about how bad they are treated. They kidnap children and enlist them into their "army". They murder innocent people who do not agree with their philosophy. Many farmers in rural areas who would not like to work for the FARC are forced to, which is a form of slavery. All of these acts have been documented over the last 30 years and can be accessed in many different ways. O, and by the way, they have been tried and convicted of these crimes in a court of law of a democratic country.

joshhyman comments on Traveling to Colombia I thought that once somebody is deported from the USA they cannot return for 10 years? Does anyone know if that is true?

joshhyman comments on When did FARC Change? Ghandi, Martin Luther King, Jr. & Nelson Mandela created massive changes against tremendous odds. The FARC is just one of many terrorists groups that know they will never make any changes but just want to continue the "business" of what they do.

joshhyman comments on When did FARC Change? I don't know but I can tell you it had something to do with the leaders of the FARC getting their hands on large sums of money. As we all know money is the root of all evil and I am sure is the cause of the corruption of the FARC as it was with all communist situations. Ever read Animal Farm? Absolute power corrupts absolutely? I can just imagine the wives of the leaders of the FARC shopping in Miami for Louis Vutton handbags. I'll bet they were always corrupted from the start but during the time of Escobar things really changed.

joshhyman comments on According to Oliver Stone... After reading what Oliver Stone has said I feel hurt and deceived by him. I just can't believe he is so ignorant. I thought he was an American hero for showing the truth about Vietnam in movies. But basically he has become a pure communist. And the worst part of it is that he doesn't want to live in Cuba or Venezuela. He wants the best of both worlds. He wants to earn millions of dollars and at the same time verbally support communist terrorists. The only thing I can do is never pay a dime to see anything he does and tell all my family and friends how I feel. It would have been perfect if the FARC would have kidnapped him and made the movie studios he works for pay them millions of dollars for his release so they could buy more weapons to kill innocent people to protect their cocaine interests. O well, I guess happy endings on happen in Hollywood.

joshhyman comments on Canciller de Venezuela afirma que el gobierno de Colombia no le permitió hacer pruebas de ADN it's even easier than all of that......let the FARC deny it and release the kid to prove they are right!

joshhyman comments on Update - Farc didn't have the boy If it is true that the boy was never with the FARC this entire time I want to hear Oliver Stone say he was completely wrong about the FARC and apologize to the Colombian people.

joshhyman comments on Miami: Undocumented(illegal) Workers Bemoan Immigration Crackdown The only thing I gotta say about this topic is; where does a Mexican go to in Mexico to sign up for a visa to come to the USA to work picking lettuce. People against illegal immigration sometimes say that it is unfair to the people who want to come here legally to let illegals stay or not deport them. Ok, well in case those people don't know this, I'll tell them, there is no place in Mexico or any other country to get in line for a visa to come to the USA and work for 5 bucks an hour, 60 hours a week. Now, can anyone tell me why we should deport OUR labor force without a way for it to be replaced? Hmmm.....that might be something we might regret doing?

joshhyman comments on Oliver Stone in Colombia I am totally stunned by Mr. Stone. I had no idea he was such an a-hole. I really loved the movie JFK. I guess that just goes to show you that someone can be good at his work but totally wrong in his political views. What does he have to gain by backing Chavez? Is he highly invested in Venezuelan government bonds? Can he really be defending the FARC? As an American I am ashamed of him. He is making a fool of himself. I wish he would just leave and never return. To all Colombian citizens: I apologize for the ignorance that has fallen out of his mouth. I feel your pain. It is paramount to a famous American supporting the Nazi's during WWII. How would he feel if an American group of rebels started a war against the American government and kidnapped his own son or wife. Can he really think the FARC cares about equity? Jesus Christ!?!
