jorgegdiaz comments on De Regreso a Colombia!!

Si te van a pagar en U$, todos felices !!! Igual si te dan un W-2 debes pagar taxes (no estoy 100% seguro, per creo que debes declarar alla). Igual con ingresos en U$ y gastos en COP es bastante ganancia.

jorgegdiaz comments on ADIOS PBH

Knowing Cassini77 / Buggy / Hans_paisa, I'm guessing he'll be back as "deleted_user". IT's his sarcastic style...

jorgegdiaz comments on Best soccer kick in all times Rene Higuita, The Scorpion

That play was in 1989 at Wembley, Col 1 - England 1. Andres Escobar (R.I.P.) scored for Col.I skipped class to watch the game, and I couldn't believe the ball wasn't playing! He was playing for Rionegro last semester, I believe. He did the same play a couple of weeks ago during a good-bye game for Aristimula... Valderrama did the shot.

jorgegdiaz comments on Added some maps to the travelguide

Excellente Peter. Any chances to link them to Google earth?

jorgegdiaz comments on Betancourt apoya la mediación suiza con la guerrilla colombiana

I thought you were outraged from the PBH stinky posts Cassini.

Mods, good bye and return in the same post?

jorgegdiaz comments on NarcoTourims

... if you account the money you would spend in lawyers, legal fees, fines and /or possible clink time...looks like a bargain to me Morphus (added) However, I still don´t condone it

jorgegdiaz comments on The Best Schools in Colombia

My sister went to a normal, and the load was too much she hates teaching. The load is the same for a technical high school, plus one learns a trade too.

jorgegdiaz comments on NarcoTourims

nah, if anything it will bring more tourists to "Cattagena". I don´t think Medellin was left in good standing anyway ...The Escobar tour was interesting. It made me remember of a really conservative Mexican-American friend in Texas (... duh!!) who used to say he wanted to snort a line on Escobar´s grave (didn´t do any drugs), jsut for the heck of it.

jorgegdiaz comments on NarcoTourims

I watched it too WEB. Altought I also find Manuel Teodoro to be a sensacionalist, I think his team made a valid point by showing how those tourists (mostly in their early tweties) just come to snort blow and somke every single thing that can be lit. It made think of PBH a lot last night... I´m eagerly waiting for next Sunday at 7:30 PM on CARACOL to watch the takes on "Cat-tagena" to see another angle of what I already saw a couple of weeks ago there. Buch of foreigneres looking to score cheap drugs and whores. Nonetheless interesting. (Oh, and there weren´t Iranians, there were Israelians).

jorgegdiaz comments on The Best Schools in Colombia

I went to a public HS in the 80´s, and I wouldn´t change the quality of my education for nothing in this world. Latter in college (#5 in the other post) I was happy I was sooooooooo glad I went there. Classmates from private HS were struggling big time. They simply lacked of formation. Same story while in grad school in the US. But it seems like things have changed a little. My HS used to be in national top 10, now it didn´t even show up in Desi´s list :( I´d be scared to have a child and make ends meet with the currently costs of quality education...

jorgegdiaz comments on I have to become a colombian national to work in colombia????

If your mother is a national, you have the right for citizenship as well. I´m not sure if Germany allows dual citizenship. Viajero is correct, Locombia allows it, and it would be the easiest way to get a job and live in Bogota. Do you speak German too? ... that would make it English, German and Spanish... I don´t think you would have problems finding a job in Bogota. Last resource could be working as an interpreter for hotels, or in an embassy.

jorgegdiaz comments on ADIOS PBH

WOW !! he´s gone for good now. So now I can say I got Cassini taken care of ... LOL

jorgegdiaz comments on ADIOS PBH

...I´m confused Buggy was deleted (I wasn´t here to witness that) but Cassini77 is still acive (at least his profile)

jorgegdiaz comments on why'd you come to colombia???

I was implying that if in the future Locombia writes an inmigration law (like Canada, Australia) and there is a need to sell the country to potential inmigrants, this post could be quoted in brochures. I think they are all great stories !

jorgegdiaz comments on why'd you come to colombia???

If Colombia ever becomes an inmigrant´s country we know where to find testimonials now. Great stories !!

jorgegdiaz comments on Where do well to do Colombians vacation?

I think Miami is the top choice, althought I don´t really get why ... Q: Does the OP want to know where they go so he/she can start selling arepas in that spot? ... Speaking of a bussiness opportunity !! ... lol

jorgegdiaz comments on Nicaragua's Ortega to Help Colombia Rebels Negotiate (Update2)

Managua`s La Prensa is reporting that a FARC commision is traveling to Nicaragua this week after Ortega`s public announcement desiring to meet them. To me it`s rather not surprising the quickness of their response as FARC might be desperate for international support now that Chavez met with Uribe and apparently mended things. http://www.laprensa.com.ni/archivo/2008/julio/17/noticias/politica/272381.shtml (In Spanish, sorry)

jorgegdiaz comments on What is one year's expenses to live in Colombia?

Why don`t you post the projected budget you prepared so we can help better? Choose a cheap/smaller (Bucaramanga, Santa Marta, Tunja, Armenia, Manizales, Villavicencio) city rather than a big/expensive one to start (Medellin, Cali, Bogota, Cartagena, B/quilla). you can always move after you proved that what you`re doing works. Q: are you doing FOREX?

jorgegdiaz comments on Cheap beer

Last night the missus and I had 500 cc Aguila bottles at $1600... speaking about good deals

jorgegdiaz comments on Colombian military used Red Cross emblem in rescue

I agree Robi, something smells funny. A guy over lunch watching the news said, "what are they going to do then, return the prisioners?"

jorgegdiaz comments on Colombian military used Red Cross emblem in rescue

docwilliam says on Jul 16 (today): flag "Someone please tell me exactly when the FARC signed on to the Geneva Convention." http://anncol.eu/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1004&Itemid=9 I was wondering exactly the same thing when I was reading their reactions on the above link. Hipocrisy would be the word? http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/americas/07/15/colombia.red.cross/index.html Can anyone see any red cross sign ? I watched the video on RCN news at 12:30 (while eating a suculent pork chop and lentils for $4500....by the way...) and wasn`t able to identify anything ! Well, Uribe already recognized the mistake so there`s no point. Whether it was planned or just an isolated person used the bib b/c of fear, as it`s claimed by the president, it is going to backfire on the remainning hostages, making potential humanitarian missions (has FARC ever allowed them?) more difficult to help hostages. So question. Will FARC still claim the jailers are traitors, were they duped? From my point of view, how can one be bribed by the Red Cross?

jorgegdiaz comments on FARC wants to meet Daniel Ortega to talk about "war and peace" (is anyone surprised?)

tercos?, huelen a cadaver, como dicen en Venezuela...

jorgegdiaz comments on harvardexec

so you live in Bucaramanga, for how long?

jorgegdiaz comments on Is the word "Ahora" only used in Colombia to mean "Later on"

Since we are on topic, mañana means in a few days.

jorgegdiaz comments on Is the word "Ahora" only used in Colombia to mean "Later on"

We have stayed there twice and I think is a very good option for budget traveling. It`s literally 1/2 block from the beach and main port, about 1 block from the historical part of the city (casa de la aduana, alliance Colombie-Francaise, and such). Safe surroundings, lots of places to eat cheap lunch/dinner (5 - 6K COP), the owner is very helpful and speaks some German, French and Hebrew.

jorgegdiaz comments on Guys this is the type of Latina you need to find and Marry..

Sorry to hear about your ordeal CanadaMan It must have been a very emotional moment for you and your kids watching that movie. I`m glad you finally were able to set things straight.

jorgegdiaz comments on Guys this is the type of Latina you need to find and Marry..

as of May 2008, hammocks with a mosquito net and a small wooden locker are about 18000 COP. In the fincas around Arrecifes go for about 10000 COP. The latter are under a canopy and have bathroom / shower service.

jorgegdiaz comments on I'm Back in case you missed me

I was wondering where you were. I don´t mind to pry, but how much is the service you pay?

jorgegdiaz comments on

does anyone actually fall for these things?

jorgegdiaz comments on Backpacker from Mexico to Colombia

I use this web site as a reference, among other things, for visa information; look for every country`s requierements where you want to go to. http://www.learn4good.com/visa.htm Funny, last week I told the missus I`d like to do that trip, but I don`t think I can get away for 2 months...

I know Mexican stores like FIESTA and CARNIVAL carry Club Locombia and Aguila in Texas. I was all this week drinking Aguila and Poker by the beaches in Cartagena & Santa Marta... That´s the best tasting beer ever ... ;)

* H1B visa expires after 30 days of your last paycheck. After that you´ll have to get another visa (tourist, trainning, investor, religious worker, whatever). * Watch your credit periodically (you still have a SSN) try freecreditreport.com (free check once a year w/o your score, for which you´ll have to pay). * You can watch your 401K, bank account, credit cards, everything through the web. * Taxes: YOU HAVE to pay income taxes for the part of the year you lived thereonly if you had any income (same for federal and state if such is the case). Make sure you tell your employeer(s) to mail you a W-2 to an address that you have access to. After that you have no bound to the IRS unless you are citizen or permanent resident. good luck

jorgegdiaz comments on US Request Extradition Of Arrested FARC Rebels

One-way ticket to Marion, illinois ? I saw several SUPERMAX documentaries on US joints and that unit was by far the scariest of all. Gangs, lockdown, corruption, rapes, AIDS, drugs, etc. Has anyone seen The Life of David Gale? ( Kate Winslet, Kevin Spacey ) is partially filmed at the Hunstville unit in Texas (right off I-45, just 1 hr North of Houston, same way you see that gigantic Sam Houston statue !!!). There is also a museum that features the electric chair "Old Sparky" which was constructed by inmates (speaking of morbid irony). The museum also displays historical items from the prison system, like shanks (knives?) and other items confiscated from inmates.
