Pictures/places to visit around medellin

looking for places/events to take pictures of and explore (without being kidnapped) around Medellin in oct/november/dec of this year. Just got a new nikon D70, looking for some decent subject matter.

Vonage

Anyone used vonage to call to/from columbia and the u.s.? How about Ecuador? The rates look good but some numbers I call in colombia you can't call using certain 10-10 numbers for some reason. I'll be in Medellin.

Also how are the rates calling from ecuador to medellin and vice-versa? ...

cell phone SIM cards

There are some threads on cell phones in colombia already, but I want to know who has had success buying a prepaid sim card for a cheap rate and with who. Also I have a tri-band (850, 1800, 1900) t616, anyone know what the coverage is like in Medellin?

expensive stuff safe?

I have a fancy digital SLR camera I want to take to colombia. What are the chances it will make it back home with me? I plan on taking a bus between some cities during the day and taking some photo trips inside of the city (medellin, cali, bogota). I'll probably look like a naive american no matter what I do. Also how dumb would it be to wear an expensive watch? I paid for all this junk I feel like I should be able to use it. I also don't want to be targeted though.

Road from Quito to Cali/Bogota

I'm taking a spanish class (www.simon-bolivar.com) in Quito, Ecuador and then later in Medellin, Colombia. Since I am returning home (to the U.S.) after my trip, I need a three leg ticket which is expensive. I thought if I took a bus from Quito to medellin it would be both more fun and cheaper.

Has anyone crossed the border with ecuador by bus? I need some reliable information on how dangerous this really is. I'm a 24 year old guy, and hopefully by then I'll speak decent spanish.< ...
