I just completed the K1 visa 2 weeks ago. You can finish it in 4 to 5 months if yourdown load the form off line. Packages 3 and 4 are on the colombia website so you can have you interview about a month after the papers are finished on the US side. The USA side takes about 3 months.

I just got the K1 visa last Wednesday. YEAH!!!! THe application fee is 455.00usd. Expect 225usd for the vaccines. HPV vaccine is expensive. 150usd for the two doctor visits. And 131.00usd for the visa which can be paid in the banco or in the embassy. (The bank is better) There is also a DAS report which has to be picked up in Bogota which shows if she ever left Colombia and for how long. I believe it was around 18.00usd. These prices donot include air fare, lodging and etc. Got to the embassy visit. I saw a lto of people getting turn around because of missing papers, did nto convince the embassy the the marriage or relationship was true and etc. The woman behind the window had about a 10 min conversation with me and then said she was going to award the visa. I had to fix some stuff while in the embassy and if I did not go, she would nto ahve received if and would have had to return. (WASTING MORE MONEY)

I was en the embassy yesterday and yes I believe that it will help. I saw someone in the exact case and she was with her mom. Her mo received the visa in possibly 5 minutes after reaching the window. A large number of people who were along did not recieve their visa. One lady was on her 4th try. Make sure that you have all of the paper work and blank copies if something goes wrong. I had to pull out a blank copy because the requested form DS230, which was sent in earlier but they had it again ont he list of needed papers.

Your luggage is fine. The vans are a lot quickier than the buses. I have travelled from Cali to Manizales by my self. They will make one or two stop and you can get things to eat.

You can go to the embassy website and the form is listed for her. In the past she only need one paper from DAS. Now there are two seperate ones. And yes I am going to the embassy to be present in case there are problems. A lawyer can only do so much, such as filing papers. You presences in way more important than any lawyer.

I am going through the same process. My interview is in two weeks. THere is a new form that she has to pick up in Bogota which shows her travel in and out of the country. They are attempting to track prostitution. THey want to see it she overstayed in Panama and etc. You can pay for the paper in any DAS but afterwards you only have 8 days to pick it up.

There is a paper in packet three and one form that she has to fill out. The list of items are things she was to collect before she enters the embassy. When she sign her name on the form, it is a guarantee that she has collected everything that she was suppose to collect and it can be faxed in along with a bio form. I forgot the form number. Then they will post the date on the internet but not before. As Mark started, if it can be submitted before the 20th, her intervew will be the following month. But she will probably have to go to bogota to get packet 4 in time for the interview and needs to do the doc visits and vacs while the day after she has picked up pack 4.

I have to agree with Mark. I had an incident with the police who attempted to run me off from a girl I was dating because the had a gun. It is normal in Cali but it is not all. I know some cops who also got time for robbing trucks at night while being police during the day. THese are police from Cali

In the past contiental would not let you do that. Maybe they have changed although. What you can do although is go to continental.com and place the price of the ticket on a billmelater account. They will give you three months interest free to pay for the ticket. Bill me later is located at the end when you are getting ready to purchase the ticket through continental.com

This is a topic that i ahve noticed in Colombia but the racism is not just for blacks but also for economics. If you are poor but you are black, metizo o white, you will be treated worst but if your economics are stonger in Cali you are treated differently. Naturally blacks often fall into this lower status because of the amount of them which are on the lower status. your family status is difficult to change in colombia. Just like in the USA, you have to give some perople the time to break down barriers. Colombia is changing. A friend of mines was recently appointed a position in the government over I believe tourism. The black cacus of the USA pushed the colombian government to give opportunities and she received the position. She is intelligent, speaks 3 to 4 different languages and is the first black in Colombia to recieve a position such as that. The blacks in Colombia lack the leadership that blacks in the USA had in the past. MLK and others opened a lot of doors. Teh barriers can be broken down but one person at a time. Things will improve. Often my Colombian friend who use to say racism does not exist in Cali returns to cali and now can see that it does exist. It is not the same type of racism that you see in the USA. It appears to be more motivated by economics.

You can sign the papers now. The only signature you need from her is for the letter that express you alls disire to marry. You need a letter and she needs one as if it is in her name. You can probably used the scanned copy of her signature for her letter. She has to sign her name to packets 3 and 4 which are given out by the embassy in bogota. They will be mailed to her house. The papers are taking about 6 months to be finished on the USA side and should take about 3 months on the Colombian side. Include all of her names. They will make the adjustments. As far as the spacing, type it in. It will abbreviate the items for you.

Try to apply for one of the drug companies such as bayer or even coca cola. There are some american companies in Colombia. GE also have divisions in Colombia if i remember correctly. Or if you are leaving for good, you can take a portion of your saving and start a store, resturant o something that you like. It may be easier than finding a job. You can be like a lot of americans and teach ingles until you figure out waht you want to do. Also apply for positions in the embassy. I think that you can apply on line.

My friends brother was illegal in the USA and applied and obtained a visa to be in Canada. The visa for Canada appears to be much more open thatn the visa for the USA. i do not believe that you would ahve problemas but submit all the papers that you can to prove that you can support her.

If you ahve to send money, Western Union can do it next day for 4 dollar from TX or 7 dollars to receive it in minutes. I also have a girlfriend waiting on her visa and I must agree with the other people, if you can avoid it. Once it starts, it is hard to control and it does poison your relationship to a degree. I have seen colombian girls change and become egoista and mad if you some day tell them no. If you have to help her, keep it as low as possible and the basics.

As of right now, I am in houston, Tx. Should I go to the embassy here in Houston to get the visa and then apply for the cedula en Colombian o should I wait and do everything in Colombia? You will have to go to DAS to fix the problem. Filling out some paper, of course pay money, but you will be allowed to leave until you have taken care of that. No deportation in Colombia.

It appears to me as if Pow wow has really got a lot of bad press from his post but I read it because I wanted to compare the situation. I have a girlfriend in Cali who is acting the same way. She is always mad for no reason but I am very good to her and she has everything that she needs and many of her desires. I believe in the post from vicshere. Take care of the extension with DAS before the 60 days are over or you have many more problems and have to pay more fees. I had that happen to me and I could not leave the country for another week or so until everything was sorted out. Do not over stay you visa.

I feel you pain Bob. I went through the same thing in June. Luckily I was not married yet even though she asked me to marry in Colombia. By the third day she was crying, acting depressed as if she was in the worst place in the world and talking about killing herself. Also she began calling her male friends in Cali which i did not think was respectful. I sent her back thank the lord. I was said to do so and loved her but what they say is true. Within a little while she was living the fun life that exist so strongly in Cali. And just as they said she called me from there attempting to re-establish a relationship at the reality that dance salsa does no put food on the table set in. I am assuming that she did not have to work and pay any of the fees to travel here. for that reason they do not respect what they received as if they would if it was their money, time and effort. Send her back quickly and do not allow her to talk herself back into your heart.

Unfortunately I have caught the other end of someone with the same view. My girlfriend wanted to return because of her desire to live free with her friends and to enjoy the social life of Cali. The social life is more free while here is more focused on being successful. As far as education is concerned, you control who you associate with. there are uneducated people everywhere and educated people everywhere. Hopefully you will find yourself when you return. My girlfriend did enjoy her return to her original life style. Good luck.

Thanks mrblablazo. I wanted to speak to them to see if there is any was that they could possibly provide the visa to us on Friday or Monday. Friday would be best. Did you ask him to help you or did he volunteer the help. After our appointment, I wanted to explain the situation to them in hopes that I can also become an exception. If not I will do what I have to do. Daniel I believe that the visa are always given out now. I do not believe that they are mailed anymore.

Yes if you miss the appointment, they just reschedule it for the following month automatically. Fax a letter requesting it to be sure they do it. My friend is on his fourth visit for the visa. If they keep your papers, you then have to call the national vall center to arrange an appointment.

I have also that i can take a year to get another one unless you go to Bogota and file for it. I heard in Bogota it can take 2 weeks. WE were attempting to find out if the lost cedula could possibly cause problems in the Embassy with receiving the visa.
