I want to shed some light on the fine situation with regards to overstaying your six months. I just paid a fine of 612,000 pesos and a seperate fine of 35,000 pesos for an overstay of five months and one week.. DAS says I can reenter as of January 1st 2007. Which seems a little weird to me . I mean in other words I can exit Colombia on December 31st 2006,then cross the border and enter Ecuador. Then the next day (Jan.1st 2007) I leave Ecuador and reenter Colombia ? Is this correct?

I still receive mail back in the states,credit card statements, and most importantly my disability checks twice a month. The credit cards I can cancel.But the real problem is that the co. that pays me my disability will not electronically transfer the money into my bank account.They will only send them by check to an address. Been reading the various comments about fine amounts for overstaying the 180 day limit. I thought it was about 400,000 pesos for overstaying say up to 6 months.
