Hello everyone, I came back from Colombia with some songs that I really liked however now that I am back in the good old USA, I don't hear any new or other songs. I would like to know a list of songs that are popular not necessarily now but that are famous or known. I am trying to keep my spanish up by listening to as much Spanish as I can and commute time for me works great. Here are the type of songs I have enjoyed while there: Que bonita es la vida (jorge celedon) enredame (fonseca) te ...
Hello everyone, I want to go back to Bogota to work however my field of expertise is Information Technology. I have experience as a IT Manager / network administrator, web designer etc... tech stuff and I would like to find work in Bogota. I was wondering if anybody had any insight on the job market and my chances of finding work there in that field. I can communicate in Spanish after living there for 3 months however I am not fluent. I speak French and English fluently and have a backgro ...
I just came back from a trip of 3 months in Bogota and I loved it. I loved everything about the city and loved the people there. I really want to go back and going to do my MBA seems like a possibility but I do not know a lot about the educational system in Colombia so I would like to ask people who might know. -How hard would it be for an American with a BS to get accepted in the MBA program in la nacional for example? -Are the diplomas from Colombian universities recognized in the US? ...
Hello Everyone, I have been in Bogota for about 1 1/2 month and I have to say it is incredible. I have encountered very little danger, the people are incredibly friendly and the Spanish here is super easy to understand. Anyways, I will talk about all this in another email. I am looking for an appartment for 1 month and I was wondering what would be the best way to look for it. I would prefer something alone however if I have to share, that would not be a problem. I would really apprec ...
Well I am finally going to go to Bogota... I will be leaving at the beginning of October and coming back before Christmas... so about 2 month and a half there ... How much money should I expect to spend in 2 months and a half? For the first six weeks I will be going to school and living in a homestay so I expect my spending to be reduced but for the last six weeks, I need to find a room, eat, etc... I dance salsa so I expect to go out once in a while, I don't plan to go all out and part ...
Hello Everyone, I have seen a couple of older post on phones but I they haven't really answered my question. I would like to know what kind of phone would you guys use for a stay of a couple of month (2-4). Do you keep your US Plan and get a tri-band phone? (Do you need tri-band in Colombia?) What Company you recommend (verizon, AT&T, Sprint...)? Do you get a pay as you go phone in Colombia? I will probably be in Bogota for only a couple of month so I don't want to sign a 12 months contr ...
I have heard a lot of Christian here talk about their church's missionary work in South America and I wonder how Colombian feel about these non-denominational Christian coming to convert people to their religion. In Europe only the major religion are really respected, Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Muslim. All the non-denominational are not considered churches but more seen as sects such as scientology. How do Colombians see those "non-denominational"? ...
Every country has its own customs, and I would like to know what is expected in Colombia. For example, in France it is very commong for women to share the tab on dates (50-50), in the US, men are always expected to pay or are seen as cheap. In France most women open their own doors, in the US, women enjoy having the door opened for them. French women mostly go out with friends and do not entertain strangers approach, American women go to bar with girlfriends and enjoy being approached and da ...
I have found very little statistics about marriage between Americans and South American saying the rate of success or divorce. Many people on the forum seem to have had bad experiences but a few does not often speak for everyone and I don't know how the majority of people feel. -Could anybody give me any numbers if they ever heard them. Americans~= 50% divorce rate Russians~= 60 % divorce rate -Could you give me your opinion on the chance of success between an American and a Colombia ...
I am going to Colombia for the first time at the end of August, since I only speak a little Spanish, I will enroll in a school such as Nuevalengua.com for six weeks and learn the language and meet people... I plan to stay for Three months. I haven't decided yet if I should go to Bogota or Medellin and would appreciate ideas from people who have visited both cities or at least knows of both cities. From what most people say on this website Bogota is safe as long as you are cautious but I haven' ...
Hello and thank you for all your interesting post. I have never been to Colombia but plan on going within the next three month. I would like to go for three month in Bogota but I speak just a little Spanish. While I have a BS and am a qualified IT Manager, I doubt I will be able to get a good job there since I speak little spanish and I believe the Colombian population is hard working and educated so there is no shortage of worker but rather of work. My main goal is to learn Spanish and meet ...
