Wal mart is not doing always good around the world Wal-Mart is not doing good every where. In Korea and Germany, they withdrawed the business due to the lost of profit tremenodusely. The problem of Wal-Mart is that they don't adopt the business culture of the country... They will suffer more if they don't cosider it in Colombia...Colombia has a very unique business culture.

so many things to export to Europe from Colombia Already many colombian companies export the goods to Europe: coffee, textiles(made and materials), emeralds, leather goods, etc. As an individual, you may start with small items such as leather goods, artesan, even textiles. You may ask a help Colombian government agency, like Proexport.com.co. For freights, there are so many good companies. You may want to use European companies in order for the easy of importation in Europe. All depend on each country in Europe. If you need more information for this matter, pm me.

Well deserved Very glad to hear that someone from overseas to Colombia is doing very well. Here I see so many negative perspectives about Colombia and life in Colombia, which is not always a ture. People live every where around the world. Some do adopt new culture very well and some don't. I believe that it all depends on the person in many cases. I am also thinking about living in Colombia in my retired life, place like Perreira or some small city. Lowell, good luck and let us hear more positive things for all of us.

Lovely Turkish people I had a Turkish roomate when I was in school in Miami, where I live now. That was quite a long time ago. He was the best roommate that I had. We got along very well each other. He loved Colombian women in Miami. I am sure that Turkish culture can adopt Colombian very well. Myself go to Colombia almost every 50 days for business and pleasure. Bogota is pretty safer than before. You know the big city, where to go, where not to go. Wherever you go, it is up to you. Here many people like Sidneygirl gives you very practical advise for you. They are good people there. You will love that city like Instanbul that is a pearl of south Europe. As a matter of facts, I am going over there on Oct. 13th. This is my 5th trips to Bogota this year. Adopt yourself into the city and enjoy yourself and learn different culture. You are the choosen one to go there from your country. Good luck and let me know how things are going in the future.

But I can tell you this. Your life in the US will be depend on how you quickly adopt new cultures, wherever you go, to the US or other countries in the world. You are not going TeXas for fun. You go over there to study. First, decide which school you want to go. Second, prepare yourself for new cultures over there. Third, learn and adopt them quickly if you can. Remember that this is a new life for you even if that is only 2 years and that people live every where in Texas. You can survive no matter what. Is it an exciting matter for you as to new and experimental life and place? Challenge it and overcome it. Then you will be even successful in academic area. My final recommendation!!..Find out if you can live in student housing on campus. Tha wil be another experiment for new comer. I was a student when I came to the US in 1982, just like you. price is not real concern to import the car to colombia. You have to have the car which has new special suspension to cope with the uneven roads in Colombia.. Better to buy over there...

Now go back to Colombia and contribute to her. There are not many educated people over there. You can go back to school to teach students like you and work in the private company or work for the government. Colombia needs professional mind young technocrats for the her development. US$3000 is not a lot in bogota Of course, US$3000 is based on 4 people in the family. As a single, you still need at least $1,500-$2,000 to live good in Bogota. Some body said that 3k is good to live in Tokyo. NO WAY JOSE. Tokyo is No 1 for a expensive place to live in the the world. It is a true that many local Colombians are living with very low income. Is that a decent life? People from high class are living with more than $5,000-$10,000 avaragely. That is a super life over there. But you need 3k to have a pretty comfortable living in capital, Bogota.

Decent living in bogota you will need about USD3,000-4,000.00 to have decent living in Bogota.
spacious apartment, maids, health check, auto(suppose that you have one), good weekend life. cultural and joyful social activities..Otherwise, you don't need to live there with tight budget. I have been in Colombia, many different cities, for 46 times.
