I am arriving in Bogota next week at 9pm and then only have a flight onto Cali the following morning at 6am. Are the shops, restaurants etc in El Dorado open 24 hours so that I hang around in there for a few hours rather than needing to get a room for the night? Or does anybody know of a decent hotel close to the airport? Cheers ...

Hi, has anybody applied for a tourist visa for the UK since they changed to an appointment system? Application form has been complete but it is impossible at the moment to find available dates for interview. Its a disgrace. I called the embassy and they said just to keep logging on between 9am-11am to see if times become available. This weekend I'm flying from the UK to Cali via the US. I am going from London via JFK with American Airlines. I arrive at JFK at 10pm on Saturday night and my flight to Colombia leaves JFK at 7am on the Sunday on a totally different ticket (Avianca). By the time I clear US immigration and collect my luggage I expect it to knocking on 11pm onwards, and with checking in for the Cali flight at 4am I do not feel it will be worth paying for a hotel for 4 hours or so. In 2004 I visted a brewery bar on 6A in Cali, I think it was called Palos de Moguer that served some good beers - cerveza negra, cerveza roja etc. I couldn't locate it again when I was back in October of this year. Anybody know if it is still open? - I looked on their website and they are only listing addresses in Bogota although the brewery appears to be a Cali brewery. cheer ...

I am looking for "Sonar no cuesta nada" - the movie about the soldiers and the $43million dollars they found in the jungle, not the novela of the same name. An earlier post mentioned the problems that Colombians can have in Barajas airport and this post mentioned Comet Air, which I had never heard of before. I checked out their website and their fares from Madrid to Bogota seem quite reasonable - my search for dates whilst although quite a bit in the future were promising and I noticed that It worked out a lot cheaper to buy 2 singles rather than a return. As I am from the UK this is an alternative I will consider in the future with an easyjet ...
Ok, following on from an earlier thread about flights from the UK I suggested starting a thread on how to find the best priced flights from the UK to Colombia and it would be interesting to see the methods other people use.
