Much better than Kovalam, Varkala sees a lot of travelers but is still much more relaxed. The main site lies on a cliff, and there are great beaches nearby.

Just walk around to find accomodation, mostly in hotelrooms on the cliffs at similar prices (not in huts as in north Goa).
