Udaipur, India

Write a review | Edit place information | Add a hostel

One of the great sights in Rajastan, Udaipur is a beautiful old city. There are plenty of palaces, temples and bazaars to visit, and a lake closeby.

| Editing history.

There are plenty of nice guesthouses here. The most romantic places to stay are close to the lake. Rikshaw drivers take large commisions, but you can get the prepaid ones outside the train and bus stations to avoid that problem.

Things to do:

Plenty of rooftop cafes and restaurants make this a good place to hang out, and hundreds of little shops sell lots of great souvenirs. Bargain hard. To explore, you can hire a bicycle for about 1 US$ a day. The area around the city is great for trekking and hiking - you can easily organize this in town. There are also the usual yoga etc. courses.

Getting around & transportation:

A flight to Delhi should cost around US$130. Train services are limited, it's often easier to take a bus. Buses to Jaipur take 9 hours, to Ajmer and Jodphur 8 hours, to Delhi 15 hours.
