North of Mandrem, Arambol is the hub of alternative young travelers in the north of Goa. There are lots of bars and shops selling goodies, it can feel a little busy compared to Mandrem or Aswem.
There are loads of places to stay, most of them cheap rooms or huts.
A string of beach cafes sell fish, and along the main road there are a few bars with good live music almost every night, and plenty of good places to eat. There's a bookshop, and even a small English school if you're taking your kids for the season. Even moreso than in most places, you can get every conceivable kind of yoga classes/therapies/... here.
