I'll be in Goa in March. Other than the beach just wondering if anyone had other things to do/see.

There is partying (although the famous raves are mostly over), music playing on the beach, bars, restaurants. Lots of people rent a motorbike and explore the countryside with that. You can do Yoga courses and such. Poor but snappy 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Peter (Moderator) (Trustee board) (Dev team) (☼Travelguide writer) says on Feb 7, 2009, 20:11: It depends where you are in Goa. Best eatery so far has been La Plage, a french place on a beach in the north (I think Morjim beach)... We ate there for two for about 20 euro yesterday, so it's not supercheap but very very good. Peter (Moderator) (Trustee board) (Dev team) (☼Travelguide writer) says on Feb 7, 2009, 20:15: Highlight of the stay has been the kid playing with the locals :) We were also planning on visiting Hampi, the train ride there is supposed to be wonderful (take NON AC sleeper class, not the AC since the windows are heavily tinted and you won't see much). But the kid got a little sick the day before leaving so we cancelled. The Anjuna market is touristy but fun if you like the stuff they sell (on Wednesdays). Renting a bike (motorcycle) to drive around must be great, but I haven't done it (too dangerous with the kid). Poor but snappy 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Peter (Moderator) (Trustee board) (Dev team) (☼Travelguide writer) says on Feb 7, 2009, 20:16: La Plage is really VERY good. Especially after a week or two of very mediocre beach restaurant food. The Indian food hasn't been fantastic so far, I had a good Thali, but mostly it's just generic touristy stuff that's ok but not particularly good... Poor but snappy 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

mistajohndoe says on Feb 23, 2009, 15:31: The best places to eat are the small local family-run restaurants. Pork sorpotel and vindaloo are the local fare you have to try. Panaji has some good small restaurants to eat. All the beaches have bars/restaurants which are more commercial and cater to tourists. You can also take in a trip to the Bom Jesus Basilica which has the body of St. Francis Xavier in a glass casket. They get the casket down once every 10 years, dont know when its scheduled next. Driving in Goa is extremely dangerous wouldn't advise it unless you are used to driving on the left side of the road. A friend was killed in a road accident when his car was smashed by a bus head-on. Other than the beaches and the late night parties there isnt much else to do there but it'll be a welcome break from shovelling snow so have fun and relax, Goa is definitely worth a trip.

mistajohndoe says on Feb 23, 2009, 16:17: There are many bus operators who offer day tours to North and South Goa. The south tour includes the BJB and Se Cathedral and also Colva Beach. The north I think is mostly just beaches. The Taj Holiday Village and the Leela Beach Resort are in the south. The Leela was voted one of the best beach resorts in the world, well worth a visit. The market at Anjuna beach is where you can buy junk. I wouldn't waste my time there unless you really have nothing better to do. Anjuna beach itself is nothing to write home about but thats where you'll find the modern day hippies and junkies. Baga and Calangute are the more popular beaches, Colva is too but you need to be careful in the water there because of a very strong current. In additon to the sorpotel and vindaloo, you can also try the xacuti (chicken, beef or shrimp) which is a local favorite. If you like spicy food, you'll love it in Goa.
