I'd like to teach English in India and live there for a while

I'd like to know more about India and the possibilities to establish myself in India.
I'm a US citizen. I was born in Colombia South America. I speak English and Spanish.
In order to make a living I would like to teach English. I have 5 years experience teaching ESL,
Any ideas or recommendations? Thanks,

What's more, you would have to learn Indian English first before teaching it. It's different from American English or UK English.

Although everyone is supposed to speak English, many still do not. The doormen at the 2 apartment buildings I've been in don't speak it. My driver's English is not good and he's currently taking a class to improve his English. He keeps on telling me that in a year, his English will be much better, but I need his English to be better now!

Of course the ones who can afford to pay for English lessons already speak the language. The ones who don't aren't paid enough to be able to afford them (salaries in India are low, although they are slowly creeping upward).

Fercho100 - It's funny that you want to live in India. A waiter the other night politely asked me (in perfect English) if I could tell him how he could get a visa to work in the US!

Also a recommendation: you could probably leave for 6 months easily in India (on a budget) from the money you can save by working very hard for 6 months in the US.

I guess, you would not be looking fowrard for earnings for your livlihud in india. thats ancillary i guess. you would easily find educational institutions willing to take you as a part time / full time faculty to teach spanish ofcourse... english i am doubtful.... pay i guesss would be around Rs.10000-15000. thts ok in a small town. but in a city you would need atleast Rs.25k to 30k pm
