ice comments on Travel Channel Goes to Colombia

Oh, I didn't know it was about food never seen the show before. I thought it was going to be about Colombia so I was disappointed. My bad.

ice comments on Where to find cheapest flight Bogota to Ibague?

Yeah, I was surprised too. How can they charge so much? From what I found its not any cheaper at the airport. Even the biggest travel agent, Aivatur, which was pretty fair on most other flights wanted way too much for this flight. Either way good luck. ice

ice comments on Travel Channel Goes to Colombia

I think the show was a dud! no offense, but all the guy does is eat. He didn't even go to Bogota! He hardly showed what Colombia has to offer. Not that I'm mad, better kept a secret but doesn't do such a beautiful country justice! I guess it did have a few good shots, just not as good as I hoped. ice

ice comments on Best Ideas for Travel Outside Bogota

If you dig rock climbing try Suesca, its about 3-4 hours north. An Awesome Place in the mountains. Tons to see and do! I can hook you up with a good contact if your interested. ice

ice comments on ROBBED AT KNIFE POINT IN BOGOTA! THIS COUNTRY IS DANGEROUS!!

Actually it was completely unrelated to anything else I do. I was out for a run (walking at the time). It was like the third day here. And no, I am not with holding any information. It was surprising to me too that that would come up to us. All I can think is that they must have been extremely dedperate or maybe drugs? They just ran up from behind us and stuck the knives against our necks. thats just kinda what happened we didint really 'let' them. ice

ice comments on ROBBED AT KNIFE POINT IN BOGOTA! THIS COUNTRY IS DANGEROUS!!

oops! I didnt read everyones posts before replying. apperently some one did get it!! way to go "Ice, keep on posting how rough/horror stories about Colombia is, that will keep those scared gringos from coming turning Colombia into ex-pats USA countries like Costa Rico and Panama in the future. Some people do not understand that quick reflexes and thinking can save you, as alot of these posters have lost those God givin talents. Keep up the good work" -Quote jake074701 Everyone else that says Im an idiot. give me a break Im learning. we all do stupid stuff. ice

ice comments on ROBBED AT KNIFE POINT IN BOGOTA! THIS COUNTRY IS DANGEROUS!!

Oh boy, I was afraid this might happen. I was not intending in any way to knock this country. Of the forty countries I have been to it is probably my favorite. In all honesty my motive was to keep information circulating about the danger in Colombia so as to scare off any potential tourist deciding wether or not to come. I know that when I was deciding wether or not to come here something like this may have influenced me. Stupid, I know. But I figured I might as well try. I am disapointed that no one figured it out. Why else would I right a title so silly sounding. I actually have no idea if Quito is safer or not. I just came back from a few days there and it was already corrupted by tons of tourist. I figured a few more couldnt hurt. About the incedent. Wasnt really any big deal, the kids were really timid (thank God). I know that it was extremely stupid on my part. I should have never been there at that time. I was glad to get away with out losing anything. What surprised me was how well dressed the kids were. Some one later told me there is a gang that runs that area and robs people all the time there. I wasnt really surpised other than that. You do stupid things, bad stuff happens. I learned a good lesson. people can tell you all the time to be careful, "its dangerous" but its another story when it happens to you. I dont think that Bogota is any more dangerous than any where else Ive been. Every huge city like this has its dangerous places. Its up to you to be careful and not go wandering around at night on back allys. DUH! Its hard for me to say the exact area because I dont know the city that well yet. It was like behind Hotel avenida Jiminez (in the travel guide) about 6-7 blocks. Just south of The University of the Andes, about five blocks. It happened right near the soccer park where alot of young guys hang out. It was about 8:45 at night. For the record I love this coutry. It is amazing in so many ways. The neighboring countrys (Ecuador and Venezula) are nothing like it. Dont even compare. It is one of the few latin countrys that embasses its own culture and doesnt just look to the USA for an Identity. (that is of the ones I've been to.)

ice comments on Spirit Airlines

Your right. It gonna be tragic when the gringos invade! and they will come, we need to do all we can to keep them out. They will ruin this beautiful, amazing country! Like they have done to Guayaquil and many other places ie. costa rica and may parts of mexico ect.... I hate what they do to a place. ice}

ice comments on Are these the Andes? Please say Yes!

I had planned to stay at this hotel in June of 08. I made a reservation. But when I got there the room that I needed with 3 doble beds was like way too small. like hobit sized. they werent true dobles. No room to move. And the toilet seat was missing. I found an apartment much cheaper and better. I would not say that is a bad hotel. it seemed nice and clean, In a good location if you want to be down town. ice

ice comments on Jopito

Hello again Joop, How have you been? I am here in Bogota now. Wow! What an amazing country and people! I love it! I just wondered if you might be able to help me again. I am trying to figure out the best way for may group to have a time of recreation in the mountains. There is a place near here called Suezca. Where it is in the mountains and they have many things to do there, it is only a few hours from here. I am wondering if you could give me your honest opinion on if you think it is worth the time and effort to come to your place? Is it really beautiful? What is the weather like now. We really like it when it is cool or cooler than here in Bogota some nice light rain is really nice too. I know that you have kinda covered this in last posts but if maybe one more thime you could tell me what is there really to do there? Are most the thing pretty expensive because it is in a tourist area? Like horse back riding any idea how much? Is there a place where we could actually climb a really high mountain, like 3,000-4,000 meters? And last of all you you could tell me if you can catch a bus to Medellin from Armenia? Are you in Armenia or outside I cant find the name of that town on my maps. I Know that I am asking for alot but I really really appreciate it i am trying to make this desision. THank you very much. ice

ice comments on Use of American Dollars in Colombia? Quick!

That's great guys, thanks a lot. I guess I've just developed a habit using USD's. But would hate to be rude. I have a atm card that won't charge me a lot to take money out so I'll just go that route. ice If some one does want to buy my usd's just mp quick. i leave in a few hours.

ice comments on Jopito

WOW! What a place! Awesome man! I will greatly be greatly looking forward to coming there, God willing. For us it would be a dream come true! Thank you very much for all your help, I greatly appreciate it! Are you Colombian? We are not your typical back packers or tourists. We are very clean, responsible and respectful. We all speak near-perfect Spanish. I assure you that we would not cause any problems for you during our stay! If you could answer a few more questions for me: 1). 42.000 col a night for staying in the field is about the same as $24.00 usd's right? 2). Would there be any type of bathrooms or showers that we could use? or even a BBQ or Kitchen? 3). What type of area are you in? Mountains? What are some of the main things people do in the area? Is there any access to hiking or back packing into the jungles? 4). What is the temperature at night? Is it like super freezing? 5). About how many hours are you from Bogotá? I know that these are alot of Questions, but this would really help me out in my planing. Thank you very much I hope that God might bless you, ice

ice comments on Jopito

"Jopito says on May 26, 2008, 10:49: flag If you like to camp in the neighbourhood of Salento visit our hotel we have more than space enough for your tent too Joop" Hello you sent me the message above. Thank you for the response. I think this is exactly what I have been looking for. Is there any way you can tell me how much you would charge us for a room per night? There are six of us, but some would be willing to sleep on the floor if that would be alright with you. And also if you could tell me how much you would charge us to put up the tent? Is there actually a space where we could use it? Any other info you could send would be great! I would like to secure a place to stay before we arrive for two weeks to a month. Thank you very much for your time and help! ice

ice comments on PLEASE HELP! Place to stay in Bogota!

Quote Gregyohn "Hola! I admit I was incorrect! $3600/$100 is 36 weeks or about 9 months of wages for a pastor making $100 a week" Maybe I should send my money to china, there the make like 0.10 a day! ice

ice comments on PLEASE HELP! Place to stay in Bogota!

GregYohn please do not respond to any more of my posts! They are a waste of my time and do not have any relevance to what I am asking. I am sure you can find some thing better to do with your time! all others, Thanks for your continual help! ice

ice comments on PLEASE HELP! Place to stay in Bogota!

ice comments on What do the FARC really want?

This new president is really going after the FARC, which is what Colombia needs. But is doing any thing to help the poor? I know when I was recently in Nicaragua (once a comy country) The president was doing loads to really help the poor (or so it appeared)! I Uribe doing anything like this?

ice comments on What do the FARC really want?

Quote : " webmanco says on May 27, 2008, 08 They want about six more volunteers :-)" Are you sure? You better not be getting my hopes up in vain. Do you know where I can find them? They always called me the white Che. lol

ice comments on Cheapest Flight to Bog Fr USA

Carry on, bro. Everything is going in my carry on. And I kinda understand the idea of clothes getting dirty, they do that here in the states! LOL ice

ice comments on What do the FARC really want?

Sorry guys. I didn't mean to kick a dead horse. It's just I don't have alot of time to go and really research the issue. I get about 2 hours on the web at night after work. You really anwsered my question and gave me the basic Idea. Thank you. As Simon said in reality it comes down to the fact that men are evil no matter how you put. And in every country in the world men will continue to be evil. like why to Muslims hate Americans? There are many reasons at the same time there are no reasons. Are some overly optimistic thinking the FARC will soon come to an end? ice

ice comments on Camping in Bogota ?

Thanks again every one! webmanco what are 'humedales'? No offense to any one but aren't most of the people sleeping in the streets bums (homeless)?? Was that sarcastic? humedales sound like a great idea as soon as I figure out what they are. LOL ice

ice comments on What do the FARC really want?

ice comments on Absolute can't miss's in Colombia

AS far as what i was looking for in this post. we are not tourist. we are rugged travelers looking to find the best (out of the way, way off the beaten) in a short time. Camping, hiking, running being standed on the mountains ect.....

ice comments on Absolute can't miss's in Colombia

WOW! This is getting exciting! MAN! Why'd the FARC burn that place down that sounded perfect!!!! If I cross paths with one of them I'm gonna make um pay! (just kidding). Quote:"""Ice, I noticed on your other thread that you will be travelling with 5 brothers and sisters, just out of curiosity, how did you all decide on Colombia? And was it unanimous? Or was there some arm twisting involved ;)""""" YES we were all unanimous. AND Yes we know that Colombia is a dangerous place to visit! We are all Black Belts in Tae Kwon Do, Speak perfect spanish and (i think i said this) have been all over the world (42 countries) including some other very dangerous places like Morroco (Especially because we are missionaries), Guatemala < every day there were bodies in the street and major crime on the news and panama city slums. Some parts of LA are'nt too great either. I think staying safe is all about common sense (ironic how it's not so common these days) Being smart and staying out of trouble! Thanks everyone, ice
