Flying vs. Bus

Hola. I'm new to the forum but not new to the site. I've printed off the travel guide (which is great!) and have read it front and back numerous times.

Here's my dilemma. My girlfriend and I are leaving to Medellin on July 11th and will be traveling around the country until August 22. We don't know if buses are safe or if it is worth flying.
