hunjb224 comments on Unemployment increased 1.7 pct to 12.9% in Colombia The funny (not literal) thing is... That colombia is one of the better latin american countries with regard to economy. Go to Nicaragua, Peru, Honduras, or even Mexico, and poverty there is so much worse than in colombia, but...they are all very bad. The most interesting thing to me, is all the people I've met in my travels to latin american countries are always smiling and friendly, even in some of the poorest pueblos. The US may have good pay and good money, but we are so focused on what we don't have that it makes many of us miserable.

hunjb224 comments on AOS - Medical Examiniation The vaccination supplement All you need is the vaccination supplement. I was just freaking out about this last night, and went into uscis and other sites where it says all you need is this supplement. USCIS has a record of her exam from when she entered the country. However, if it has been more than year before your filing for AOS, then you may need to have this redone.

hunjb224 comments on Short cut to get interview in Bogota sooner Once you get everything We had read that it would take two months to get the interview after you send everything back in, but be prepared for it to be less as well. I was planning on an august interview, but it actually happened three weeks after we sent in the forms (not complaining, trust me) but be prepared for a quicker turnaround.

hunjb224 comments on Tired but Very Happy Good Luck Divina You being there will definitely be helpful to the process. They may ask how you communicate, if he speaks english and vice versa. Make sure you (and he) know the history on your travel to Colombia, how many times, when, etc... Be relaxed and at the interview stand by. Best Wishes!

hunjb224 comments on help with teaching tips & strategies Agree with Corazon If you just want to be a conversational practice partner that is cool, and maybe you can get some cash out of it. Your best bet would be to partner with a non-native teacher of english who knows the fundamentals but doesn't necessarily have the speaking part down. If you can't teach grammar and structure of language, you are essentially doing an injustice. There is a huge difference between conversational english and correct english. Keep the latter to professionals.

hunjb224 comments on Sex Mongers in Medellin You can see them on the plane Everytime you get on a plane to Colombia, you can see the people going for business, the people going home, real tourists, and the sleazy old men who are traveling to get laid. I just hope that Colombia doesn't become another Brazil or Thailand, because this is one of the most beautiful and diverse countries in the world both culturally and geographically. The sex trade is everywhere, and it's hard to avoid, but when it becomes the number one tourist attraction then we have problems. A way to fight this is for workers rights and fair wages in Colombia.

hunjb224 comments on What i did on my summer vaction in Armenia And further more in armenia... Aremnia is great. Spent 8 days there in March, and the Jeeps and the small pueblos are incredible. Get to the river to and take a cruise down the river...they take you on a jeep from Quimbaya through the country and they you get on a bamboo boat and cruise down the river. Stopping to hike in and see a cool waterfall and then again for lunch on the banks. I can't remember the name off of the top of my head, but i took my fiancee and her son and we had a great great time. The company that took us was featured in the press of bogota as one of the best tourist things to do in Colombia for 2006. Also, across the street from the offices of the tour company is a great little craft shop where the guy hand carves bamboo. If anyone knows the name of this company, please add it in. Armenia and Quindio are known to be very safe.

hunjb224 comments on Antisemitism No worries Being a jew that has traveled a number of times to colombia, I would say that people there are probably less prejudiced towards jewish people than people in the United States. You are just another gringo and I wouldn't even bat an eyelash at the fact that your friend is Jewish. If he is hessidic or wears a yamaka all the time it may be a novelty similar to seeing an asian person, but you have nothing to worry about. That's my experience anyway. People would ask me what is my religion, I would say Jewish and that was it.

hunjb224 comments on why should we change the way we dress? It is true When I am working in LA I wear jeans and rarely shave, when I am in Bogota on business i wear a suit and always am clean shaven. As much as the latter pains me as an outdoor enthusiast, i do it out of respect for the culture. The same applies in the social setting, never would i wear flip-flops or shorts to even a casual sit down dinner in colombia. I think we "gringos" ofter forget that cultural respect goes both ways.
