sounds like fun, but i haven't gotten drunk in years (gee....1999 was the last time i recall getting drunk). i keep on passing out for a few minutes after one drink or getting sick before i can ever get drunk. but i could probably get "drunk" of your sense of humor!

GS - I have a smiley bendy at work that I sometimes put into yoga positions. I should replace my photo with it!

Lauthra - Nice to meet another Ashtanga devotee. I tried Bikram once and didn't like the heat. And the barking of the positions like commands isn't very pleasant. Yoga should be much more soothing than that! I've practiced Ashtanga in a number of locations I've traveled to. The next time I'm in Bogotá I hope you can direct me to classes. Considering how inflexible I was when I first started yoga, I know I've improved. I don't think I'll ever get as flexible as my cats. Do yours try to bump your head when you're in downward dog? Yup, both my cats are rescues as well. They are like children to me.

No I don't, but I wish I did! Ouch...doing bow is bad enough but with a cat on your back it's worse. If I practice yoga at home (rarely), I have to close the door. There's nothing worse than having cat hair in your face when you're sweating and trying to get into a position! But then they meow outside the door. A friend used to tell me that if she dies, she would want to come back as one of my cats. Sounds like coming back as one of your cats would be equally good!

Anyway, that's a favorite photo of Snowflake (not my name...it's the name given by the person who found her). As most white cats with blue eyes are, she's deaf. She's about 17 and her kidneys are slowly failing. I'm doing everything possible to slow the the deterioration of her kidneys.

That's my fear...becoming a crazy cat lady myself! I think my allergies would bother me if I get too many cats though! I am allergic to them, yet I've got them! I must be crazy!

I have a big house so my allergies aren't too bad with the 2 cats. But once I visited a friend who lived in a small apartment and she had 4 cats. My nose started itching immediately.

But 2 really is OK. And yes, I do love the kitties so much that I cannot imagine life without cats. Putting up with weekly allergy shots for 2 years was worth my being able to enjoy my cats, being outdoors, dusting (ha! that's what cleaning ladies are for!), etc.

gringolondinense says on Sep 7, 2007, 04:33:

wow HG!! you had allergy shots every week? gosh! What were they, are they extracts of the allergen to desensitize your body?

If you have hayfever, try taking Grazax tablets 3 months before the pollen starts up. I tried it and it really works. Its the first allergen vaccination tablet on the market I think.

0 funny, 0 helpful.

houstongal (Trustee board) says on Sep 7, 2007, 10:36:

Yeah, allergy shots every week. They rotated arms. Because I was allergic to so much stuff, the serum was rather thick. But it was probably better than all of the sinus infections I kept on getting. But now I rarely have any problems. I don't even have to take Claritin during hay fever season.

Yeah Lauthra, I bet 4 cats in a small flat would have me sneezing after about an hour. Mine also are very scared in new environments. I think it takes them a little while to seek and find favorite sleeping spots in new places. Cats really don't like change.

Dan, my white cat is deaf and when she was younger she loved to chase the light from a flashlight. She would even run up the wall to chase it. None of my other cats ever fell for the light from laser pointers or flashlights. They'd rather play with tin foil balls and pretend they're soccer balls. Cheap entertainment!

What my friends did was to get the cats fall over the furniture. They had a couch set about a couple feet away from the wall for walking behind it. They would shine the laser all over the floor when they were chasing it pretty good, they would flash it on the couch and when the cats got close to it, shine it on the wall behind it and they would not even stop and jump up at it falling to the floor again. They did this a few times before the cats got tired of it. Hour later, start right back up... entertaining all right!

She's an odd cat. She loves to eat nuts, lettuce, peaches, cantaloupe and other fruit, mushroom stems, tortilla chips.

I don't know when I'll every get back there seeing as almost all of us moved away to other places, but I definitely have some good memories from there. How bout them Texans :-p

HoustonGal: Sounds like you ran into more adventure in Peru than I did. I had a friend who took a 20 hour bus ride there that was held up by gun-toting bandits five times. The bandits would just build a big barricade on the road, hold up the bus, ask each person for a couple dollars. The bus driver and other passengers got annoyed since a couple dollars five times is a lot of money for some people. The driver started driving over the barricades so the bandits would fire at the bus... which had curtains insted of windows. My friend was almost hit.

HG, you are a riot haha, can picture this now....sincerely hope your white one comes out of it ok. Look at natural herbs (In order of preference; *Pata de vaca leaf*, Pedra hume caa, bitter melon, chanca piedra, even guava to add to the water or food, but ask your vet first if combining with insulin. Have heard in humans, is possible to take together but the insulin needs to be adjusted. Infusion is main prep. method (For first name in list). Is widely used in So. Best to you and the little kiddies!

HG- Hey gal just an FYI on Philipines, you had mentioned you were going and wanted me to give you an update or tips. Our Chief of surgery just returned yesterday (Operation Traditional Healing Ways) Spoke with him this AM.
I am not quite sure what area you are going to but if it is Metro Manila - no worries - lots of pollution and shopping ( Almost sounds like Medellin) jajja. Only area he said is unsafe and high risk is Mindanao, which is very far South from Manila. Of course there is a strong military presence (always typical since the 80's) PM me if you have any other questions, otherwise - relax if you are going to Manila - I recall shoes are cheap! Cough drops are considered candy and stay clear of the Karaoke bars (unless you are into that ! LOL) and unless things have changed drastically since I have been there - keep car windows rolled up or you will have aggressive beggars reaching into your car when stopped ;) Enjoy

Thanks CG! I'm not worried, it's just that travel restrictions create more work for me (forms to fill out, approvals to chase down) and it eliminates the possibility of my being able to spend a few extra days out on a beach on vacation. Just a drag. The company will take good care of our security, they always do. My guess is that we'll have a driver assigned to us. It takes the fun out of traveling for work.

We did decide to skip the southern island where we're banned from traveling. Not so much due to security risk but because the audit risk was low and my staff is too inexperienced to go by themselves. I think I'm going to need a vacation after this trip. Now I just need to figure out where to spend those few days of R&R.

Sunday is the only day we'll be resting... We made sure of that!.... But, by then I'm soo pooped it doesn't matter.... Somebody just told me, boy you look tired, I told them bite me!... lol... okay, I didn't, but I really wanted to....

Hi Plato & MS...yes, I'm out of town. One week is almost over...2 more to go. The weather in DF and this area in general is in the mid-70's, but gets cool at night (40's). The elevation is the reason for the coolness. It's quite pleasant in the sunshine though.

MS - We're working on Saturday, but we'll have Sunday off. We plan on going to the big pyramid in Cholula and walk around the colonial town of Puebla. You sound like you're going to need a break on Sunday as well! Sounds like it'll be well deserved! Don't kill yourself!

Thanks MS! It's supposed to be their prize for you....so you can be proud of them! I always praise my cat when she brings me things.

I used to have a cat who would bring home animals as well. Unfortunately, they were often still alive. I remember corning a chipmunk in my home and she was so disappointed that I let it go.

The worst is when they bring things home, eat the stomach, and leave the rest for you to clean up. I've found many a mouse and lizard leftovers for me to find. Anyone have a recipe requiring mouse and lizard tails?

I am not certain what I want to do as far as a career. My love is in the arts (music and film especially) but this is a risky area and I need more security at this point in my life. At this moment, however, I am considering investigating what types of opportunities there are at the Nike headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. In addition, I have a friend that has connections to a international wind energy company. But really, I just need to jump at something soon to start throwing money at my debt while looking for something more serious.

Again HG, I sincerely appreciate all of your kind words and advice.

Hey GS - Peter did "fix" it, but it doesn't work if a post has a certain number of comments. It's always sort of worked like that. I did ask for a couple of other things, which he said he would add to the list. I think he says that just to get rid of me! I'm in BTR! And it's a pretty darn nice evening! We have an early morning tomorrow. These people start work just too early!

So reading for enjoyment is out of the question for the time being...but his book is on my list. Have an excellent time and get back to me after you see him. I'd love to hear about his performance.
