Thanks for the support and advice. Mighty kind of you. I'm a single mom of a 10 year old son. We heard about the Kidsave Summer Miracles program, where you host a child for the summer (kidsave.org). We hosted this delightful Colombian boy the past two summers. It has been a very long road, but it finally worked out, and now we get to welcome him into our family. My contact at the adoption agency I'm using recommended Betty's Place, which is a small B&B type place that caters to families adopting. But with a 4 to 6 week stay, the price gets steep. I've been reading about various basic hotels and apartment rentals, that seem to cost sigificantly less. I am adopting directly through ICBF, which I believe is the government adoption office. I plan on staying local, since I don't speak much Spanish and will be alone with my new son. I am seeing this trip as more of a business trip, to pick up my new son and take him home. So we'll explore a bit locally and work on English, and I'll do some shopping, but I'm hoping we can return again in a few years (with both of my boys), for a real vacation in Colombia. p.s. I love that quote!
