Gator The building is ARAWAK, the one next to Hotel LA sierra, is right in front of the water. is one or two blocks down from Santa Maria, and Santa MAria is where it gets really busy, well my apartment is passing that busy area, is nice and comfortable. You can still see what is going on and hear the party not too loud, not too quiet.
So you are interested in Los Laureles, that is a nice building, as a matter of fact i was interested on one apartment on the 12th floor too, I don't know if is the same as your's but I decided to go water front.

Let me know what happen with it, it will be nice to meet with you guys when we arrive next time.

Best Regards,

Achiote Lionheart is right Sylviat, I remember that my Grandmother used to call the "Color" achiote instead, she bought it on the tienda and put it to every single thing she made. =)

Colombian Cusine Fried food is part of the typical Colombian cusine, but this does not mean that you "MUST" eat buñuelos, patacones, mojarra frita, carne frita, etc. every day of your life. I think the cook thecnics can change with a little bit of education about health, for example Morphus article is great, but you need more than that to convince a woman who has been cooking that way for her whole life. I sugesst that you introduce her somehow to a nutricionist and trainer, there is something you have in your favor and is the fact that "ALL WOMEN" like to look good, we don't want to be FAT and less atractive everyday because the fat rolls are growing more and more around our belly, so you can use that as the excuse, and both of you should join a nutricional program and/or a gym. You will be surprise the diference on the diet when she begins realizing that the food she is cooking is not good neither for her nor for you.

You can't expect someone to know better without education, and we don't have to know everything in life, we will learn everyday more and more. Let her find out on her own better ways to cook the rice (without oil), cook the eggs with fat free PAM instead of oil, and broil the meat instead of frying it, maybe cooking classes for fun as a new activity between the two of you will be a great thing to do, make her feel that you value what she does but you want to make it a fun thing for both of you and learn more so she can become an expert with her cooking skills and the new knowledge.

Just make the process fun and you will get great results.

Advice from a Colombian who loves to cook and found out how bad are saturated fats with oil, rather better taste and better health!!!!

harocha comments on Caracas

Sorry Scarlet Unfortunatly EVERY SINGLE Argentino I met so Far, And I mean A LOT, are just like this one. Mean, Egocentric, Sarcastic, Coward, Head Air, etc, etc, etc, and none of them so far has any authentic and original thoughts about culture, look at this guy's comments just like any other Argentino copying every single thing from Italy, every other country in the world who had foreign people coming to their lands in the pass has it's own costums, folklore, food, alcohol, etc,. Please be original!

Scarlet why do you think that there are so MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY jokes around the world about Argentinos?????? Do the math...

Have thoughts in your own, and don't think that you are the best of the world, because you are not, you are just normal human beigns like anyone else, your shit smells like anyone's else, and you came from a woman like everyone else, is good to feel the Nation in your blood but that does not mean that you have to step in someone's land and talk shit about it, or do you Argentinos really think that when you die you are going somewhere different than were the rest of the world goes?

harocha comments on Caracas

Sorry Kat I was busy! but yes, not even the mom can put up with them.

-¿Por qué en Argentina hay tantos casos de sietemesinos?
Por que ni sus madres los aguantan nueve meses

harocha comments on Colombian Culture - Women

Why?

harocha comments on Caracas

What is the EGO? The Argentino everyone has inside!

harocha comments on Caracas

Grow Up!!! Please!

harocha comments on Caracas

Typical Argentino Has to hide under a different title in order to say something, you can't just start with a title like "Argentina is Paradise- Colombia is Hell", typical Argentino, you cowards even behid the keyboard when nobody can see them... You are just like anyother Argentino around the world, with this stupid superior feeling about them self. Do you know that the conclusion from the complex you guys keep is inferiority, because someone who has to be bragging about what they have or not have is so so so incredible insecure and feel inferior to rest of the world. But you have to much BS to deal with to be smart enough to realize that, I know. Where do you bring up that this is a grown up conversation??? Do you really, really think that the way you express your stupid thoughts is a grown up way???? Geeezzz honey, you really need some help.

In any case I just want to contribute to your edcucation giving you something to face the truth you talk about so much:

(Is this the reason why you are not in your country? -by your wrong thoughts (The Best Country in the World)???

Argentina’s workers, and unemployed finally got fed up with years of government cuts, layoffs, privatization, and other schemes designed to integrate Argentina into the global economy. This process began when Argentina pegged its peso to the U.S. dollar, a move backed by Bush senior, and culminated in December when the government froze everyone’s bank accounts and cut salaries.

The result: massive food riots, a state of emergency, spontaneous popular mobilizations, over 30 dead (including a small girl shot point blank for stealing a bag of pasta), and four administrations toppled.

Argentina had followed the directions of the International Monetary Fund to the letter. It had privatized state enterprises such as the post office (which is now facing bankruptcy, raised interest rates to ward off inflation, withheld public employee salaries for up to seven months, cut public sector salaries by 35 percent, and fired 40 percent of its public employees. As a final blow, the government limited all bank withdrawals to $250 per week in a country where most salaries are deposited and credit cards carry 30 percent interest rates.

Argentina has now devalued its currency and stopped payment on its crushing $132 billion foreign debt, but has yet to revoke the freeze on bank withdrawals. The political crisis and default will cast a shadow on negotiations over the proposed Free Trade Area of the Americas and will have a serious impact on the region. The collapse of once-prestigious foreign banks that now claim to be broke and unable to meet their local commitments makes any quick return to the policies of the recent past doubtful.

Poor Looser!!!!!!

harocha comments on Colombian Culture - Women

Well I think some people here need a little exposure to the San Francisco Down town area at night, maybe come by and enjoy the launge areas at night, maybe you can stop by at the Top of Hill, or the latest bar that opened one of the Pier at Down Town, But first remember don't show up if you didn't achive the MBA or don't have the Stanford or Harvard Law Degree yet just like Rene says.

Great comment Rene, no just because you said viva Colombia, but also because it seems like you, Juanpbadillo and few others have a much better understanding that we are not the same type of women, and we are not after the same things.

harocha comments on Colombian Culture - Women

Final product of the enviroment Women are phisicly women any where the are, meaning have the same parts, two legs, two boobs, a pussy and etc, etc, etc,. However, when we become adults we are the final product of our own enviroment just like men all around the world. Or you guys are going to tell me that a woman from Afganistan is just like a woman from Rusia??? or a man from China is just like a typical Costeño like Elmo????

No way Jose, We are different and if is true that we all look for someone who is not a looser and can be watching our backs for us while we relax (this does not mean give me, give me, give me) it is true as well that we "many women" have our own way to provide love and care to that man who we want to keep next to us for the rest of our lives. We do have different ways to see life and treat men, ín Colombia most women didn't grow up having a dryer to dry cloth, or going to the pub wenesday night after work for a happy hour, or having a man who has to cook for him and the kids while mommy is in Vegas on a weekend girls out, Come On!!!! we didn't have a Nanny because the 7 YO sister is too small to take care of us, and daddy was never playing with us because then we grow up with a trauma. There are many many reasons why we are the way we are, and they are the way they are, you never see a woman in Colombia putting mom and dad on a Senior's public home because she is too busy with the sucess while mom and dad are 90 and 95 yo.

My good friend wants a woman who is a sucessful professional, who is in the office all day, and who drives from work to the pub to meet him for happy hour, who dress perfect and has class and money.

My other friend wants a woman who like to be in the house, and who has a lot of time for him, who has dinner ready when he arrives, and who wants one or two kids in the future and is willing to stay home and take care of them, he says he rather put food on the table than having a woman who can't be with him or care for him because she is too busy at work.
They will both be able to find what they want to, but one has to go somewhere else to find the type of woman he wants to, because it is going to be hard to find it where he lives.

No everyone in this life is looking for a gringo because "All gringos have money", there are many other reasons why women like foreign men, blue eyes, blond hair, tall, learn about other cultures, lovelly people, etc. and not all the men are looking for the prototipe of a Colombia gal because she has great boobs or a nice ass, culturally we are different too, I don't say we are better or worst than American or Rusian women, we are just different and everyone should get what they like.

Telling the world that every single Colombian woman wants a gringo's money... please is there any STUPID gringo or no gringo man who meets a woman and transfer all his possesions to her because, that concpet is so stupid. Everyone wants a better life, does not mean that people wants someone millionary or even rich, people (women and men) want to build a great future based on hard work and where both in the couple put big amounts of efford, no just his money or her money. It is so easy to know when someone wants your possesions, so the best is move on and look elsewhere, and STOP the trauma about everyone wants your money and all women are the same!

harocha comments on education level in Colombia, various cities

Barranquilla, Santa Marta, Cartagena Barranquilla by it self, has more profesionals than Manizales. Barranquilla has one of the best Universities in the health education as it is Universidad del Norte, and there are other good colleges at this city, has the best public conservatory of the whole country and their musical - educational level is very very high.

Architecture and computer ingeniering is very good here as well.

Cartagena has great medical public school, and in Architecture Jorge Tadeo Lozano University is great. This city has a lot of profesionals as well, and good very good schools, The Escuela Naval y great.

Santa Marta is growing pretty fast in this matter, students do not have to go anymore to other cities to get college education.

Other small towns in the Atlantic send their students to Barranquilla where everyone goes to get college education. There are a lot of professionals coming from this town.

20K COP Well Rat, as you know I wasn't talking about COP, to tell you the truth Colombian women who are middle class and lower do not know what is the big deal about a dimond, plus I honestly doubt that YOU can buy a dimond for 20k, well maybe you are talking about afording a piece of plastic that looks like a dimond on any street artesiania shop in Colombia, and after reading your posts THAT I don't doubt, for sure YOU can afford it.

harocha comments on Colombian Culture - Women

Tremendas??? What did they do to you guys? did make you spent 75k on a wedding, with the excuse... This is about me, me and me, The Bride, this is the most important moment of my life... bla bla bla, Or maybe they told you that they leave you because you are a looser who can't aford a 20k diamond for her, no no maybe they told you that you better pay for a brand new car because if you are driving a big truck they can not have less than you, or perhaps they are just so competetive that you can't put up with their speed anymore, they just think that it is impossible that you are making more money than they are because it is not fair, IS this happening in Colombia???. I know, I know, you are just talking about few Colombian women who got a plastic cirgury and have 3 BF at the time.
I am glad I lived all my life in Colombia and didn't get to know that many women who were like this, but I got to know a lot of women who are just like Southernman described. How many years did you guys live in Colombia who came out with that conclusion?

Have a goodone!

harocha comments on Colombian Culture - Women

Don't Agree with Marcus How do you explain then that a Colombian woman who makes enough money to live good, takes care of the family and have some luxuries, who lives in the USA but grew up in Colombia, who tecnicly (based on what you said) does not need a man still considerate a man very important on her life and meets all the description that Southernman mentioned above???? If this is a money isue, I think things will change with the first big fat check... Not happening.

harocha comments on Holes in suitcases?

Desi if you are going to the coast you maybe interested on metting a Colombian retirated guy who lives in a small town nearby. He used to live for half of his life in Estocolmo, you may know him, his name is Ricardo Bonett, he is a nice nice person, very into cultural growing and with a big history from family and great stories about how the coast becomed coast. He is working in helping the comunity and recovering a lot of wasted areas, and he loves Golpe de Tamboras (Costena/Afrocolombian music)

If you are interested on metting him let me know, it seems like you like to learn about every single life style and culture so you might like to meet him and his family.

If this does not interest you for what every reason I understand, =) then have a safe and fun trip.

harocha comments on Holes in suitcases?

Delsey Meridian Hard Case Suitcase in Panama Last december I went to Panama leaving from Barranquilla Int. Airport and found out that my brand new *Orange-RED* suitcase arrived with some holes on it just like the ones you guys are describing, however my large suitcase had about 12 or more of them, so I complainted to the Airline who I traveled with and they told me that they knew some airports did it so they asked me to open my suitcase and make sure the holes went through the hard case to the inside because that is the only way the insurance will pay for, and went i open it it did went trough so they paid me for a brand new suitcase, same model, same brand.

I am still using my same old suitcase with the holes on it so I don't get the newone damage again.

So it is not just Colombia and Miami Airports who do this, Panama does it too.

PS: about not locking your suitcase to go to Colombia???? I think that is not a very smart thing to do, AVIANCA and AA told me that normally people in Colombia still things from suitcases because they don't get pay on time... I know it is very nonsense, but this is what they say. They advise you to lock it.
About plastic wrapping... It is a 2006 new law that prohibit the wrapping plastic system over the suitcase to go into USA land.

Have a goodone!!!

harocha comments on Child Prostitution

From what I see Mr. Hollywood is right about the ages and reasons that will define Child Prostitution, If a young girl between 15 and 17 years old decides to sleep with a/some men because she wants to have access to the latest cloth and the latest cool things that fashion puts on the market, that should not be considerated Child Prostitution, you will be amazed how much these young girls know about life and how to manipulate a man more than anyone at this forum. I know few cases of 16 and 17 years old girls who go to a diferent city and play the perfect game home, liying to the family in order to leave for a week, so they can have a luxurious life on a 5 stars hotel, with everything paid,I can asure you that these girls are very consiensous of what they are doing, no one is forcing them to do so, and they are having what they considere the best time of their lives... I also can tell you that these things are not happening just in Colombia, they are happening everywhere you go, I heard from a Dad in France who told me few things about his little 14 YO girl who was doing similar things with a group of friends, and she said they did it "JUST FOR FAN" they like sex, and they like to be spoiled by men, I am talking here about some girls that didn't need any thing, because Dad is rich enough to pay for anything, but they want the excitement and pleasure of the situation. Also there are several documentaries on the American TV, where young girls between the ages of 13 to 16, play the finger and oral game with the older boys at the high schools, and the reason why they do these things is because they want to be virgens, but like the wild games, sex in exchange for bear and pot, and here we are talking about girls caming from American families, who are the perfect daugthers and who said that these are the games they play at the parties, because everyone does it, you are not cool if you don't do it, it is about been ahead of the game, and the one who gets to be fingered and licked by the biggest amount of cool kids in the school, is the winner that summer of fall. So in my opinion todays days, is really hard to describe what case can be considerate "CHILD PROSTITUTION" and it is even harder to decide what countries are the number 1.

PS. A lot of the Gamines, including young girls who sale their bodies in the coast 90% of them are kids coming from Medellin, Bogota and few other Inland cities, if you would like to prove it just talk to them, and you will hear the paisa or rolo accent, the reason very simple, kids on these areas expirience a lot of physical and mental harm from parents, you easilly will hear an Inland adult (NO ALL OF THEM, BUT A LOT) telling the children things like: Muevase Huevon, Hijueputa, Malparido como se le ocurre ser tan bestia, etc. etc, etc,... and all these things follow by a lot of hitting with belts and branches of trees, and even things like Desi just described on her prior comment. But remember you get to see worts things over seas, like that mother in California 1-1/2 months ago that got rid of her 3 kids on the Oakland bay.

I wish people think twice before bringing kids to this world, it is not easy to control the way they decide their own lives... It is not easy to be a parent, and their is less easy to be a kid.

Have a goodone.

harocha comments on Colombian restaurants in California

Good & Bad If your friend is 100% colombian, I recomend that you do not take her to El Majahual, because I went there and as a Colombian I didn't like their food, a partner (wife i think) is salvadorean, so the food is a bad mix of Salvador and Colombia cussine and does not have a Colombian caracther.
El Rinconcito Colombiano in San Jose that someone mention before is good, is authentic and your friend will enjoy it better, there is also a Paisa who import food and a lot of goodies from Colombia and he is located in front of the night Club the name ROCAPULCO in San Francisco pretty close to the Mission, just ask where is Rocapulco and everyone will tell you there.

Other recommendation is that you can make your own Colombian food, or pay someone to do so, and you can pick it up and go and enjoy it with your friend in your place or hotel.

I can advise you on some people in the Bay Area who you can contract food with, they are great cooks.

Have a good one!

harocha comments on Barranquilla Carnavale

Elmo is almost right! Things are just like he described them, however you have to buy a "PALCO" no a fish the name PArgo... any way, the PAlco is the best way to see the parade and enjoy it, but there are the comfortable hotels that have live music that charge a lot of money for you to get in as well, that is just if you are looking for high class events, or you can go to murillo o las nieves, rebolo or so to a CASETA de barrio to be like a sardin on a can to hear a bunch of people screaming in front of a vallenato band playing loud music.

Enjoy El Carnaval de Barranquilla.

harocha comments on Avianca Baggage to Barranquilla

Tinto The policy about 1 suitcase arrives with you and the other one 48 hours later is just for Barranquilla International Airport, due to the planes are smaller from what i was told and the most important reason is that high seasons affect directly this airport more than any other in the rest of the country, remember Bogota does not have a Caribean Sea, does not have life music on the street and does not have a Carnaval.

To Juanalejo, I used Continental Airlines last december 27, 2005 to go to Miami and once I was there took an AVIANCA flight, and the year before that one I used Delta with the same itinerary and neither of them told me anything about my two suitcases, so I am assuming that again, Barranquilla in a high season makes a big difference on the policies.

Have a good one!

harocha comments on Avianca Baggage to Barranquilla

My Experience 12/05 I was told the same thing by AVIANCA so I asked to speak with a manager and he told me that I get to pick the one I want to be deliver on my apartment in El Rodadero due to I asked for, I wasn't going to pay a private Express car to go and pick up my suitcase at the Airport 2 days later, so I asked them for my suitcase on my apartment door or my money back with interest and they ovbiusly pick the first option, so I got my suitcase next morning first thing.

I wrote down the manager's name and told him that if I was missing my suitcase or anything on it AVIANCA and him were 100% responsable with interest for the delay.

They also told me that they do these things in the high seasons, meaning X-mas season, Carnaval season, Holly Week Season, etc.

Have a good one!

harocha comments on Christmas Music in Colombia? What do they play?

Villancicos y Novena de Navidad Normally you will hear Villancicos that are Christmas Carols, mostly around children, in the Malls you will see few Santas here and there, and in places like Unicentro, Hacienda Santa Barbara and others in Bogota you will see the Carols Singers at lunch time and after work singing villancicos with the Novena that is the celebration of the Nativity nine days before Jesus is born. In the Coast like Cartagena, Barranquilla, Santa Marta, you will hear villancicos as well and novenas but not as funcy as in the malls in Bogota, parties will be every where, as someone posted earlier most of the cities (not all) in Colombia celebrate "El dia de las Velitas" or Dia de la Virgen, which is december 8th and means "Candles day", normally the tradicion is that the Virgen walks all over the town and bless the houses that are ligthing candles, people dress up on the evening of december 7th and party go to bed around 1 or 2 a.m. and get up around 4:30 to start ligthing the candles on the sidewalk, is beatiful in my opinion, you get to see hundreds of candles lighted on each house. Then december 24th the typical party everywhere with buñuelos and natilla and of course cena de navidad, presents and more party, the music is all kind, start with villancicos for the kids, then the baby Jesus is born and you pray and then merengue, vallenato, salsa and more becomes the spirit of the party. And the best part is New Year, is the biggest party of the X-mas season down in the coast at least, family stays together and we make sancocho, and a huge great dinner, friends come from all over to party and say Happy New Year, we do not sleep that night and in the morning after a 2 hours nap we go to the River to get rid of the Guayabo...

I hope this description is hepful for you Gringo de L...

harocha comments on Cost of a decent pair of shoes?

If I like the shoes I will buy them It all depends in how much mony I make.
When I was living there, I bought the things I liked. Theprice is not so bad there, you can find good shoes in a good price. The shoes from Bucaramanga are very good, they are as good as Italian shoes.

What type of shoes are you planning to sale there? Colombian? Italian?...

Juan Since you said floklore before the word "BALLENATOS" i assume you are talking about the style of music "VALLENATOS" and not about the Whale Calf, am I right?

harocha comments on true or false

It is not just the MACho part the concept of Colombian women not liking so much Colombian men involves a lot more than just the Macho thougts.

Alcohol, Lies (which i consider far away from been macho), Sleeping around with other women, etc, etc, etc.

harocha comments on cartagena accent

Cartagena Accent You will find in Cartagena all kind of accents, depending where you are coming from, for example if you come from Bogota you will ALWAYS speak Rollo no matter where you are, as well as people from MEdellin (Paisas) do.

Paisas say: " MirÁ, VOS tenÉs un caldero que me prestes"?
Cartageneros say: " Oye, tienes un caTdero que me prestes"?
Paisas use the VOS instead of TU just like Argentinos in the other hand Cartageneros say TU but they don't pronounce the vowel/consonant/consonant/vowel combination clear like the rest of the people in the country they have a tendency to pronoun it more like the way the Puerto Ricans do, like the way Perto Ricans say PueLto Rico, kind of similar. Cartagena has Native people who are Black and the explanantion for that is described on one of Joe Arroyo tunes the name "Catagena" it talks about the slavery times and when the spanish people arrived to Cartagena and brought the slaves with them.

Buenaventura, and the Choco area at the Pacific site will have a lot more black people than any other city in Colombia, Barranquilla, Santa Marta, Monteria, Valledupar those cities will have very few balck population.

No Necesarilly I do now, and know a lot more people who do, depending who good the taxi driver is with the service, if you are in Cartagena, and they drive you to one place to another to find apartment, and they don't charge you more than the initial price, I always treat them well with the tip ($$) but if they charge me a lot more, i never take them again for a ride. And I know a lot of people who came back from foreign lands and they can afford to have a taxi driver who is nice to them so they tip them very well. In the other hand, rich people in Colombia, almost always tip the taxi drivers. So it does make a lot of difference.

harocha comments on Single Successful Man Looking To Move To Medellin

Well the "SUCCESSFUL" part will ... get a lot of attention to be honest with you. If you want to blend, don't even bring that up, you probably have to use something like that in the USA if you want to find a Gorgeous woman, who is willing to date you, but in Colombia you better don't mention that, unless you are targeting a Minister's Daugther or a girl who's last name is SantoDomingo, Lacoutire, ($$$$) etc, etc, etc.

Juanalejo I generalize for a very good reason, I am from Colombia, and I am talking about people in my country who never leave the country and are poor (poor in Colombia means everyone who is middle class and down, you are either poor or rich) NEVER give a tip to the taxi driver since they never have the money to give someone more than what they make, I know this because I was one of these poor people and if we get pay 5000 pesos per day and a taxi cost us 2000, plus food and other daily needs, who do you think is going to tip a taxi driver, so I do have a reason to generalize don't you think????

To me Mom and Dad used to said... ... Eat the soup now or I will bit the sh... out of you, and on top of that you won't get to eat for the next two weeks, your brother will love it, (My brother eats what ever you put in front of him)

There were not Africa bulls... there, you eat or you eat.
