haji comments on Wife not allowed to leave Cali - Help!

NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT This sort of detention is actually very common, as DAS officials may only have a name to work with (no ID number). I am assuming that your wife's name happened to be "similar" to the one of the person being sought for prosecution, and the officials acted upon her name. Unless there is any other legal problem, the matter can be solved in no time, all your wife hasto do is go directly to the DAS in Cali and clear the issue, it shouldnt take more than a day. No lawyer is necessary.

Good Luck!

haji comments on Danger in Yopal?

to be honest You shouldnt have any problem , alot of foreigners go there and work there ,with BP and the security is very good because of these people working there. So I dont understand why they would tell her that.

haji comments on Curious about living costs

haji comments on Why do some Colombians lie for nothing?

what I have found What I have found is that the Colombians That do this are the ones ( rich or poor doesent matter)That have never been out of Colombia, for what ever reason. The ones that have viited ,stayed, schooled elsewhere.are the ones who are diffrent.
Vicshere, that sucks.Last night my wife got a call .The man said Luz, we have a job for you and you can start tommorrow,By the way how old are you,are you over 45 .My wife said yes and ,he said I will call you right back --- of course he never did-- Friday we called the bank they said the papers are ready this is 4 months after we paid off the loan.So thelady said the paper will be sent to you and you will have it monday.Monday comes no paper .We call oh theres a mistake it will go out this afternoon, just takes a minute on the computor to fix you will have it tuesday . well tuesday is here and the papers are not ,so we call this morning And guess what--- they havent been sent. You ask why, well its because there was a problem once again
FUUUUCK cant any one get somthing done that takes 10 minutes, done in 4 months, and at least tell me the truth as to why it hasent been done--- so I do understand .

haji comments on Why do some Colombians lie for nothing?

haji comments on Why do some Colombians lie for nothing?

hmmmm I am sorry, I guess interviewing 200 plus mechanics and out of them finding 26 that had actual experiance after testing them, I may have jumped the gun ---And mabey when i actually caught people stealing and knew that they took things they didnt actually lie to me that they didnt do it---oh and the service technicians that said they needed extra things done at the other shops for say 20 mill pesos and brought me recipts for that amount didnt steal when I found out they paid 5 mill for the recept---Oh and the manager of cali showroom who stole 13 milliones and said she was sorry and would pay it back but she needed a raise from 750,000 per month to 1 milliones a month wasent stealing. how many times does it need to happen to form an opinion
I truly believe there are execptions to the rule you Colombiche may be one of them if so thats great

out of 23 showrooms all the managers stole something--out of 7 partners all but my son ,my wife and one other stole nothing

out of 57 employees all of them stole---if perhaps I would have been like other patrons and searched them before they left it wouldnt happened --- I have one man that is very rich in Bogota and still owes me 7 milliones and says he will pay --- hmmm that was a year ago
I pursue everything However there is always a excuse and even when confronted with the facts and evidence they will look you in the eye and lie
Yes,they try to impress you with there knowledge, but thats not what impresses me --- what impresses me is when a person tells me " I dont know can you show me " that person I will help
I think what pisses me off the worst is that people here think I actually beleive what they say.

I have had high class and loqw class people do it rich and poor do it
it is a way of life here

small examples --- I will be there at 10 and show up at 4 or not at all-- when you see them they act as if nothing has happened it wouldnt be bad if it didnt happen that way all the time
Or family memeber saying I will pay you back on tuesday I am getting paid then and not paying you anything on tuesday or ever
I suppose to them this is not lyeing if you are brought up that way I guess you never know what the truth is

But in the end trust comes last for Colombians

haji comments on Why do some Colombians lie for nothing?

Theres more to it The funds should be somewhere ,and probably are There are still alot of skeletons in the closet,You see the finacial manager was also the general manager for 2.5 years, him and another man did alot of things without discloseing them to the partners. When I got there last year I started snooping around and was stopped usually because people wer eafraid of losing their job.During this time Nelson managed to divert money and have fake thefts accure,Along with giving the top share holder 43 motorcycles,---We had a total of 23 showrooms which Nelson also took care of and money was stolen from there also this is very complicated. This took alot of time but this man had everyone lying for him and shared some profits with them---money talks here period--

As far as not trusting , Well I have been in buisness all my life,Ive lived all over the US and lived in many parts of the world. But Here In Colombia , Its a way of life to use others and doesent matter if its a family member or a friend or someone you just met---its all about what you can get and how much----And as far as being smart I dont think Im smart or have ever belittled a Colombian I learn from everyone--Hell look at the way I write ---Most of the Colombians I Have meet are smart But they think they are superior and try to prove it--Fact is they will take from anyone I HAVE SEEN IT

haji comments on Why do some Colombians lie for nothing?

Tinto We own the 4th largest motorcycle assembly plant in Colombia,We are the second largest sharholders, and because of what has happened.we will lose everything her soon.Mostly because we trusted and took their word for things. They all lied and all stole not just money but merchandise. The sijin has done nothing.and of course everyone blames my wife ,no one takes responsibility for anything.I will never trust anyone here again not untill they prove thereself,Nor will I believe anything they say, there is always a motive behind their Niceness.

haji comments on Why do some Colombians lie for nothing?

Gomezman5 Thank you gomezman,Really nothing left to do but sell this explorer and leave so we can make more money , the financial manager, along with 2 accountants and an auditor, managed to steal most of it, And the employess stole a huge chunk --When confronted all they could say is yes we did this ,but what can you do.Anyway Thanks for the thought Its much appreciated

haji comments on Why do some Colombians lie for nothing?

vicshere I have much empathy for you,My wife and I are broke other than our home and our suv which we now have to sell, everything that happened to you has happened to us . We have lost 300,000 usd --Why becuase we trusted and treated people right. All my trust is gone, except for my wife, who is Colombian , but educated in the states.Damn I wish I knew you needed help with your home I would have helped you free , as I am so bored waiting around to sell this car grrrrrrrr. As usuall we were lied to and now have been waiting 3 months for the papers from the bank for the suv as it was used as a guarantee-- supposed to be here tuesday JAJAJAJ---anyway just wanted to say I agree with you 1000 percent.

haji comments on looking for an investment opportunity

MIke My buisness partner, does this,I can put you in touch with him.
Or contact the man above without comming here, the reason is unless you were born there and have a direct contact with those who can get the emeralds you cant get them from the mine. The other best thing to do is come to Bogota and make the deals here.

haji comments on Is this true or just a wet dream

nope wont work First of all, when the bike is in just a few parts its considered , CBU,
you dont need an assembly license for that, but, you have to pay Vat, and the Dian for clearance.
Second if the bike is completely knocked down ,its considered CKD and you not only have to pay taxes but have to have an assembly license for that brand of bike.
My wife and I own an assembly plant,so I do know about this.
heck I have 16 2005 110cc mopeds I could have sold him here.very cheap and, he could have avoided all the problem he will have.
Last it is possible only if you bribe the right people, but even if you got them here getting them licensed for the street is the other problem, write me if you need more info.

haji comments on Soup kitchens in Colombia?

I tried to meet you in Armenia ,when you first arrived.Im sorry we didnt meet.Your idea is a noble one but, there are things here in Colombia that will hinder it greatly--When we were there my wife and I feed alot of the homless and clothed them. We saw the need, so I checked into alot of diffrent things, as I have alot of resourses, since I was Diretor of Volunteeres of America in Ohio and started many soup kitchens ect..
But the main problem will be funding ,the next will be people seem to mean well, but, they dont follow through, especially here. So when you are depending on their money or time, you wont have it.
The other thing here is the street people like their life.
My advise is dont rent at first, make your food, walk around feeding people, and others will see, and they will come to you, to help at least they did us.Once you gain support it will be easier. There is alot of work in this.and if you dont start small you will have problems . I started a kitchen in Mansfield had 14 volunteers ready they said, the kitchen opened and it was just my wife and I No one showed up and we feed 600 people that day.
Now if you are serious, Our friend is the head of Ninos de los Andeas, and he can help you. He started with his own funds, write me I will give you contact info. Good luck

haji comments on Weapons for Self Defense

Gib A friend of mine trained in Krav Maga,it was great .Him and I had alot of fun in the prison we worked at,the only problem was we were always sent in first LOL anyway,I enjoy your post and your staight forwardness.Bu8t then again I guess we think along the same lines.

haji comments on Weapons for Self Defense

YES The best advice is what gib said if you are trained in anything practice it.I have found its best to practice your whole system, but pick some techniques that you feel your best at and perfect them so they are second nature. From what I've see here as far as robbery and shooting most are up close so practice hard, and when they try somthing feed them their weapon. FOr the most part though I feel its about how you carry yourself here, make eye contact, walk upright, let them know your aware but, at the same time dont be paranoid.and you wont have problems.Oh Yeah one more thing think before you act .

haji comments on Moving to Colombia

gmz Although, many things have happened to me and my family,I still like Colombia. However, culture shock for you and your children may or may not be an issue,I do feel safe here - although I always watch you never know what may happen, but , all in all its pretty safe
We live around Cal 127 our home is paid for But we have 5 people to take care of with everything gas, water electric, cable ,food its cost just under3 million a month,or around 1500 per month.
the biggest thing for me is the food I miss.dont get me wrong you can get most anything here at a price. So what I do now is cook and bake alot so We can enjoy diffrent things-- cooking especially baking at high alltitudes is a challenge, but i believe I have mastered it. I still cant find corn syrup LOL
anyway I would say come here with your kids for a few months, if possible , what may bother me wont bother you and visa versa
feel free to write me about anything ---Taurus45b at yahoo.com
best regards chris

haji comments on Law Enforcement in Colombia

LOL First of all the police Usually ask for the money at least they always ask me,and as for the friend .He was told to do so. I live in Bogota north end now I was in Armeniia. My wife has liived as long as you and to name a few her home was broke into and the family held at gun point for 10 hours noone caughtHer son last year drugged and all his money taken from his account
lets see Within this year we Have had over 300 milliones stolen from us by friends family and buisness associates---- Nothing is being done by police---- Our employees five of them were robbed at knife point---- two of our cali managers drugged and over 20 millones stolen from accounts of ours and i can go on and on
Somtimes the police do not let you go unless you payat least not me and usually what they do is stop me for driving a ford explorer then ask to see equipment if thats alright they make some up thats wrong but then say I need gas -- I ask how much they reply whatever you can give---Dont get me wrong most dont even get paid so i understand
However as far as their preformance on investigations --it sucks period
But Thank you for your comments

haji comments on Law Enforcement in Colombia

Well depends As a former police officer(louisiana) and correctional officer I personally think law enforcment sucks-I have seen people robbed right in front of police.I 've seen a gun put to a persons head while 2 police officers wacthed, this was 2 weeks ago. Also I had 6 motorcycles stolen brand new, they didnt do anything. I found 2 bikes called the police they arrested one man held him, then let him go, took 6 months to get bike back. Then I went to pick it up had to sign paper it was perfect condition or I couldnt get it. As you guessed it wasen't they used it for dirt racing, over 3000 km and bike had to be compleatly redone. The other bike was never picked up still waiting and its been a year now
Also most take payoffs. I've paid alot of money to police actually for nothing-- my sons friend just paid 600,000 to police yesterday because he had a blow out and flipped his new car and went in a ditch, they told him they would turn it in if he didn't.
I have seen 8 murders and the way they handled the scences was terrible.
Anyway I am sure there is some good, as with all countries they have their problems, some more than others.

haji comments on bus from bogota to pereira

HMMM Well personally I would take a smaller bus, rather than a larger one.
and saftey well thats up tp you,I go were I want but diffrent strokes for diffrent folks,Some get scared of everything some don't.Dosent mean not to be cautious,But i believe It depends on the persons background and what he knows or doesent know-and although GIB may be sarcastic I believe he offers good information but then i read between the lines and know what he does is right for him ,He knows his limits and himself
cheers!!!

haji comments on 911 or 119

thats good to know I didnt know there was a number, but to be honest their ambulance service here sucks from what i"ve seen.First people dont move for them so ,by the time it takes for someone to get there is better to flag a cab.although that will also risk the persons well being. After seeing how the emts handle the victims it really doesent seem to matter.Case in point--saw a man shot no one helped not even police, however the police did shoot the man, who shot the other then rode off on his motorcycle.Ambulance was called but ,instead of waiting person who was shot was thrown into cab--I have seen it more than once
Colombia does need to work on this --just my opinion

haji comments on Homeless in Colombia Finding a Way

GIB IS RIGHT ONCE MORE Dont get me wrong,I gave and still do to a select few I know are trying. But I also give by paying my bills all my utilities here are taxed a percentage of the bill. The goverment is supposed to use it for that -- to help the poor,Although I dont see where---I pay very high electric also the reason so the poor can have it cheap.anywaythe more a Gringo gives the more people want, and that includes your friends --so called and family. So its best to keep it for yourself and who you select

DECLARACION DE RENTA No, this requiremente WILL NOT be overlooked. The DIAN is always on top of this for all business even if they are new businesses and you have nothing to declare.

Best thing to do is to file the income tax return with "0" income, you will be starting your business with a right foot with the DIAN.
