gunn44 comments on North Americans in Bogota

Try the Colombia Experts... ...website to see if you can get anything going there. I think there was a thread here recently about monthly meetings in Bogota. I kinda lost track. I plan on going to Bogota in December on a student visa for a year, and would be KEENLY interested in such plans. Contact me at gunn44 at ureach.com....thanks -gunner

gunn44 comments on K-3 Interview later this month

Congrats...... ...most of the K3 posts here seem to indicate that the K3 interview should be fairly straight forward. The feeling seems to be that it MIGHT be a good idea if you are present at her interview...my personal feeling is that I wanted to be there for my fiance's K1 as on-the-spot reference for questions, paperwork issues, etc.

Kids over 18 require a separaqte K3 family member application, so it is BEST to get the 17yo thru on your wife's K3 and avoid the normal EXTENDED wait for a normal family member application backlog.

Hope this helps -gunner

gunn44 comments on Computer prices in Colombia

I got a... ...new HP laptop for my honey, plus a PlayStation II for her brother and carried it in my luggage with no problems. Equivalent in Bogota qas US$400 more for th laptop...US$50 more for the PSII.

I think the "don't ask/don't tell" protocol works here. -Gunner

gunn44 comments on FIANCEE VISA IN 100 DAYS!

I don't think so... ...the beaurecrats at the consulate like TIDY packages of forms filled out, And you would have to show income/assets to meet the requirements. The could be your assets or those of a co-signer. YOU still petition for the visa, meeting the requirements...and the rest is up to him at the interview.

The extra documents required for the petition include copies of the beneficiary's passpot and visa stamps from previous visits to the USA.
Go to the fiance visa websites and study the instructions for the forms for your petition.

Good luck -gunner

gunn44 comments on Getting things done FAST in Cartagena? Anyone have connections?

The best advice... ...I've heard so far is What Diego said. Stay cool, be prepared, and make a sincere effort to solicit good advice from Colombianos about staying out of risky areas. We ain't in Kansas anymore...

gunn44 comments on Nice lady at the US COnsulate in Bogota

Yep...I think you are right. I emailed her to pay for a conulate visit and see if they could fix it on the spot. Thanks for your input, Utopiacowboy. Regards -gunner

gunn44 comments on More tourist visa questions..... plus a rant

I've read in some older posts that a student visa...for example, studying Spanish...is easy to get and sets you up for a year. Check the Colombian Consulate web sites. Regards -gunner

gunn44 comments on FIANCEE VISA IN 100 DAYS!

I have opinions... ...that come from 150 hours of research and preparation for my fiancee's visa. I will give you my best guess, for what itz worth.

1. Anyone who overstays a visa is considered a "bad risk" visa applicant. Sorry. The consulate staff are evaluated based in part on the number of "non-compliant" visas they approve...so, they are loath to approve a visa of any kind for a "proven" scoff-law. The 3 year ban will weigh heavily against your application. Thatz why there are so many extra documents required for applicants who have been in the US previously.

2. There is no way around the minimum income. The US government wants someone who is liable and responsible for a fiance visa applicant for the three months of their visa, including buying a return ticket in the event the marriage does not occur. The best way to do this is with a guarantor...or, just wait until your income qualifies. I should mention that I had to submit 3 years W-2 and 1040 records as part of my "Statement of Support", which had to be notorized.

Good luck -gunner

gunn44 comments on looking for Bogota sewing and leather factories

I know a lady... ...who has a small facory quite close to downtown Bogota. If you do not speak Spanish, it could be a lot of trouble to work things out. If you wish to find out more, let me know at rick_davis7 at hotmail.com and I will give you the email of the lady's niece...my prometida.

They are curently running a lot of small contracts. It could be a good contact for you if you can get past the language problem. My prometida is studying English, but would not be at a level to be of much help to you yet.

At any rate, let me know how things work out for you.

Very best regards -gunner (Galveston, TX USA)

fiancee visa My petition was approved in 43 days after receipt at the Dallas Center. Other than that, your message rings true. If so, I should have my Perla Sin Precio here in January 2005. I hope we all have good luck. Thanks for the post...VERY helpful. Regards -gunner

gunn44 comments on Sailin'

Sailin" Thanks. Appreciate the response. I'll take your advice.

What do you think about the local market for sailboats in the 10-12 metre range? Would Panama be a better place to find one? Are there any classifieds for CO sailboats? I've got some time before I have to start looking.

Regards -gunner

gunn44 comments on Sailin'

Sailin' There has been little positive said about sailboat facilities on the Pacific side of CO. I was not really impressed with the facilities in Ecuador, either. Club Nautico CTG looks as good as anything I've seen in America Latina.

I loved the fishing out of Punta Carnera...had 6 billfish up and got 2 blue marlin boated. The threasher sharks were jumping all over the place! I asked the capitan and he said there are rivers of bait fish...didn't qet the Spanish word for the type of fish...and the threashers put on the aeriel display to stun the fish and eat 'em up. Spectacular!

Thanks for the response -gunner

gunn44 comments on Sailin'

Sailin' Thanks, Mr. H. As a practical matter, the Carribean coast makes sense. I was also curious about the Pacific side. The Club Nautico site was great...thanks. Do you know of similar facilities on the Pacific side? Or, a good place to look on the net for just general conditions info on either side?

I did a lot of Pacific fishing offshore Salinas/Punta Carnera Ecuador a few years back and was really impressed.

Thanks again for your kind response -gunner
