The government of The Philippines will offer a special visa for foreign investors

"The government of The Philippines will offer a special visa for foreign investors with ventures that can directly generate employment. The “Jobs Generation visa will provide foreign businessmen a semi-indefinite stay, Immigration Commissioner Marcelino C. Libanan told BusinessWorld. Mr. Libanan, however, did not elaborate on the nature and quality of employment and as to what sector should be prioritized for jobs generation. The Immigration chief said any foreign businessman could apply ...

1st time to Venezuela. What shouldn't I miss.

Have Visa in Passport. Going to Angel Falls, Isla Magarita and Los Roques island in October. Is there anywhere else I should not miss? Does Venezuela have a black market for changing money these days? ...

Bancolombia sucks, Banco de Occidente rocks!

For those who may open bank accounts in Colombia Originally I had hoped to open a bank account with BanColombia because I heard their fees were the smallest and Bancolombia should be able to do anything that I expect a bank to be able to do. When I first attempted to open the bank account in S.M.with Bancolombia, they said no and treated me like a criminal. Once I told them I had a cedula and was a resident, they said “OK. They informed me that they would open a bank account for me i ...

Gran Estacion in Ciudad Salitre while visiting Bogota

After the earthquake I thought I would walk over to the mall listed above. It turned out to be the biggest and fanciest mall I have yet to see in Colombia. I tried to take a photo inside but the security guard stopped me. (How will my employer ever know where to place the bomb now?) I saw two interesting things that I have not seen before at this mall: 1) a live mannequin in the store window. 2) Security guards with no legs in wheel chairs (I think this is great). I am not a shopper, but ...

Delta Airlines has the best website for determining if your Colombiana/o needs a transit or tourist visa for vacation travel.

I found this Delta Airlines website and I am sure it will help many other Gringos determine whether their Colombian sweety needs a visa to visit another country. The website takes into account the resident status of the passport holder and adjusts the tourist and transit visa requirements accordingly. If your sweety has residence in another country other than Colombia, the travel restrictions can be reduced dramatically. I have tested the site with specific known criteria and and it appears t ...

Dominican Republic jumps on the visa free bandwagon for some Colombians

As of Feb 1st, Dominican Republic does not require a visa for Colombian Nationals who have residency, or hold a current valid visa, for either Canada, USA, or Europe. This follows Costa Rica's similar rule change that took place only a few months ago. I guess these countries finally realized that they are able to expand their tourism without increasing risk. Are there any advantages of a Colombian Investor Visa over a Colombian Spousal Visa?

It is clear that there are some definite advantages of a Spousal Visa over an Investor Visa such that: 1) you are not required to invest the 100k and 2) the spousal visa should be quicker to obtain because you do not have to wait until you have invested your money.. However, other than the fact that you do not need your spouse to renew an Investor Visa, are there any other advantages of an Investor Visa over a Spousal Visa. I understand that one can obtain a Permanent Resident Visa after h ...

Watching TV Colombia en vivo in Canada

For those of you who are interested, my Colombian wife watches TV Colombia en vivo (http://www.tvcolombia.com/) here in Canada. I just pointed the old DSS dish at Echostar 110 and receive it on channel 841. She loves watching the Vallenato bands outside CityTV in Bogota. ...
