NYSE Announces Fourth-Quarter 2008 Circuit-Breaker Levels NEW YORK , September 30, 2008 -- The New York Stock Exchange will implement new circuit-breaker collar trigger levels for fourth-quarter 2008 effective Wednesday, October 1, 2008. Circuit-breaker points represent the thresholds at which trading is halted marketwide for single-day declines in the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA). In fourth-quarter 2008, the 10, 20 and 30-percent decline levels, respectively, in the DJIA w ...
The financial crisis in the US is starting to affect the Colombian investment climate, now that U.S. banks announced to restrict loans in emerging economies like Colombia. The Colombian government announced measures. . . http://colombiareports.com/colombian-news/economy/1531-us-banks-restrict-loans-to-colombia.html . . ...

Alright, it looks like a blockade.........not a war coming with Iran. Bombing those nuclear reactors with the fuel rods already set would be the dumbest ass thing i've ever heard of. This should be much better. 60 ships deployed..........also the phony war in georgia last month .........the real purpose was to secure an area for the north end of the blockade. how is china going to replace this oil source? you could become the richest man in your town if you play this right. just my ...
I have a one bedroom apartment available, located at the 1 with CL 70. It's up the hill and this is a very nice neighborhood. It's newly furnished, does not have internet, but can be made available. $750 a month. PM for details. ...
There may be some newbies here that aren't aware of this contest that was started earlier in the year. There are probably some oldies that wish it wasn't started. Being that the peso contest was reopened only to see how people would choose today........i'm opening this contest back up also. Of course, you can't enter with the original posters but you can pick a side. I made these conditions when there was not a hint of a problem in the air.......one company, Country Wide Mortgage had gon ...
Come on over to my apartment this Sunday afternoon, 1PM, and say hello to gringoloid. See how he lives, eats, .........meet one of his girlfriends.......... you can also get even with him as a result of one of his insults on PBH. You can also meet truthseeker and try and figure out this puzzling man with a strange motorcycle. El Tesoro mall area...........PM me for directions. ...
Is anyone aware of a real estate return index that tracks the performance of the Colombian commercial real estate market? It could be a component within another index but I would wonder about its efficiency due to the difficulty in obtaining accurate information. But I do want to know of its availability as I may have a desire to short the shit out of it in the coming months. ...
As you know we have this peso contest going on and it cannot be reopened because it wouldn't be fair to everyone who picked at the beginning of the year. Part II of the contest allows others to join but only to say who they think will win. This is what we have so far: Rocinante.............1495 Raaay...................1525 Rubito....................1700 (goin south, Ctg Bound) Gringoloid...............2062 (johnny2008, Suerte Gringo) Pedro......................2090 (nbenjamin, esa ...
I can't believe how things have turned around these past 2 days. After two meetings with the district manager of Colmena where I had to give my lifes history, I can now make wire deposits. did the first one this afternoon. It was almost as if I was applying for a job. The only question they didn't ask was, "who was the first person to nibble on your grandmothers breasts?" My package of mail arrived yesterday........you remember it went USPS instead of DHL by mistake.....it was suppos ...
I thought I would share this link describing Rubito's upcoming schedule of gigs in Bogota. For those that don't know him, Rubito is a high spirited and remarkable musician who recently relocated from New York City to Bogota. I have to be in Bogota soon to take care of some business...........let's all of us Bogotanos get together for a meetup..........but in the meantime, stop in and say Hola to Rubito..........he'll be gald to meet you........ http://www.myspace.com/rubiazo ...
My mail forwarder in the USA made a mistake and chose USPS instead of DHL to send my package of mail to Medellin. Their email to me follows at the bottom. Is there a USPS entry point in Medellin? If so, can I go there and pick this package up? I don't think they will deliver to my building like DHL does. It may take 6 weeks for the package to be returned. Has anyone ever had this happen and what do you think my chances are of receiving the package? Along with monthly mail, my new de ...
Ah-hah............turns out, two of the members of the Warren Commission itself did not believe that shots fired from the Book Depositry killed JFK. Congressman Gerald Ford, soon to be President, was the eyes and ears of the FBI on the Commission. Ford altered the original version of the wound in Kennedy's back to make it appear that one bullet went through JFK and Connally. The truth comes out eventually........it always does. http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2008-08-09-ford-f ...
who knows a person in medellin that is selling a car and will take U.S. dollars. I need a car bad and i'm not going to hit the cash machine everyday. My bank will not let me wire any money in for 6 months. I'm seeing a guy bigtexas from this site tomorrow so he is excluded. If i buy the car......the reward is yours. ...
Finally made it over to this place.........wasn't bad........I'd return. I didn't know it was a cowboy bar...............but man, i'm not used to getting in at 3 in the morning and i'm paying for it today and tonight!

When a couple live together for a certain time in Colombia, (i've heard 1 year and i've heard 2 or more years, actually i've heard about 15 different lengths), they can be considered common law married. First, does anyone know the exact amount of time before the common law marriage kicks in? A PBHer that I know was once unfairly victimized in this after about 14 months of living with the woman. The woman lied about the length of the stay and an expensive legal quagmire developed. I myself ...
I've declared July 14, 2008, R-Day. It begins the Campaign to Free Rubito! It's very similar to D-Day of 1944. It's been a few days and cooler heads are now in control. Management now feels that Rubito can be forgiven as long as he makes some public statement about not insulting the mods again. Internet traffic has declined since the departure of Rubito and advertising revenue is down. Many people miss the colorful language that Rubito used to declare his perspective like, go f*** y ...
Colombia's Peso Declines on Concern Economic Growth Is Slowing By Andrea Jaramillo and Drew Benson July 10 (Bloomberg) -- Colombia's peso dropped to a one-week low amid signs growth in the South American country is slowing. The peso weakened 1.1 percent to 1,749.3 per dollar at 3:49 p.m. from 1,729.55 yesterday, according to the Colombian foreign- exchange electronic transactions system, known as SET-FX. Colombia's economy expanded 4.1 percent in the first quarter, less than half ...
There is a stockbroker in Medellin that told me yesterday that the best way to bring money to Colombia is to buy some stable stock, like Microsoft, WalMart, etc., in the united states and then sell it here in Colombia. The only costs are his commissions and you get a fantastic exchange rate as the stock his denominated in pesos rather than dollars; another words, no spread. I have a list of questions for him as I'm quite familiar with stock transactions but I'm headed back to the united stat ...
First, I want to say that I'm old enough to be Rubito's father so we may have different tastes in music as well as being from different generations. I can't imagine Rubito listening to Lynerd Skynerd, Madonna, Michael Jackson, BG's, etc, like I do. But for those that did not know him, he is a hard working music artist who has pulled himself out of poverty like I have done myself. go ahead and try and fool him with a music question...i'll bet you can't. His love for Colombia is second to ...
I did a search and I can't find answer on PBH. I am moving from Bogota to Medellin and I need a moving company with at least a 20 foot van to take my things. I've heard that Rojas Trasteos of Bogota is a reliable company. Anyone used another company? After two years of living here I'm not naive about the pitfalls of such an undertaking. Any tips, tricks, or traps to share? ...
Three of us PBH'ers, LilaM, Nancy, and myself travelled to Somondoco to meet member Bill Turley on Saturday. He's been living out that way for many years and it is about a 3 hour drive from Bogota to the state of Boyaca. For us city people, a trip to the country is compulsory not only to take a break from the fast paced city life of horn blowing, car alarms, traffic jams, rat race, etc., but to experience the country life of Colombia. And I mean this is the countr ...
There is a party out at Bill Turleys neck of the woods on May 31. We may check out his farm and then have a party in a nearby restaurant. Leave at 10AM..........arrive 1PM.............return to Bogotá at say 6PM. this is not written in stone. Some of us can provide transportation if you don't have a car. If you never met Gringoloid The Amazing, this would be a fine time to do it. So, LilaM, jonas, alma..........let's hear from who is going.......PM me. ...
I didn't know about this new drug that GIB talks about...........but as I said before somewhere, .....my colombian girlfriend wipes down the ATM touchpad before she uses it, and afterwards. . . . here is the message from GIB: Hello all! Thanks for all your warm comments and your calls. I am OK feeling very lucky that a Police patrol came along just after I left the teller machine. Some 7 officers all over the street. Have no idea why but they saved me without even knowing it. ...
Now that we're describing wierdness around here, I'd like to tell you a recent story that began on PBH. Peter and Desi knew about this right from the beginning. (Many details have been intentionally left out to make this story short for a blog and I'm not releasing any names.) THIS IS A TRUE STORY! Last January a new poster here immediately began enticing us with offers of bargains and friendship and then made this effort directly towards me on PM. Peter kicked his FARC ass off PBH i ...
Raaay and myself were having a discussion about this on private mail when i figured it would be best to bring the question out to the board for challenges. Let's say that a person had a chopper motorcycle in the states and he wanted to bring it to Colombia. So the guy takes it completely apart and ships each piece separately to Colombia. Like the frame in one shipment, rims in another, cylinder heads in another, etc., so that in 10 shipments over 6 months the bike would be here unassemb ...
Internet traffic for PBH has gone up 36% in the past 6 months even with a suspension of new sign ups. . http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/poorbuthappy.com . . . .
I bought a gas stove from Home Center in Bogota last Saturday and they said it would be delivered on Tuesday, yesterday. They gave no time frame, just Tuesday and they never showed. My girlfriend called yesterday when she got home from work and they said definitely today. I waited here all day passing time by arguing on pbh with people suffering from delusions and other handicaps................and, yes, no show. I had someone call this afternoon as i can't speak spanish and they sai ...
I had a meeting earlier this evening with a couple of Bogota attorneys concerning foreclosed real estate that has gone back to the banks. I looked through the listings and it seemed hard to believe. There were condos available for about ten grand on up. They appeared way undermarket, price wise. They don't own and hold.........they flip. Has anyone had any experience with buying foreclosed properties in Colombia? ...
I have some rather sad news to report about Scotty, a long time poster and a friend of mine. He was informed by his doctors today that his cancer has returned and he will need a plan of treatment beginning immediately. I've written him privately and encouraged him to carry on with an aggressive treatment and that myself and some others at PBH are always here for support. He was planning on visiting me here in Bogota this summer and I'm still holding him to that visit. Scotty is still you ...

There are rumors circulating that PBH will soon be open again to new members. If you're tired of your user name, maybe you would like to change it to something else. But what would you change your name too, if you had to do it over, and now that we know you better? I've come up with a few name changes..........please add your own: goin_south.........bringinhernorth Desi...................Maridelete CatGirl...............ilitteru houstongal..........20questionsminusone Raaay.......... ...
Maybe you've been quoting Bloomberg.....Wall St Journal.....MSN.....and CNBC and you're flexing your financial abilities and need to vent. Maybe your opinions are off the beaten path......... Whatever you feel, now is the time to sound off.......... Even if you don't like me.....pick a number and I'll add you to the list. There is one group no one has recognized, and it is the group that will decide the election: the Angry White Man. The Angry White Man comes from all economic backgrounds, from dirt-poor to filthy rich. He represents all geographic areas in America, from urban sophisticate to rural redneck, deep South to mountain West, left Coast to Eastern Seaboard. His common traits are that he isn’t looking for anything from anyone — just the promise to be able to make his own way on a level playing fie ...
Great new movie.....better than "Hacking Democracy". All about our fraudulent elections. BTW, this just in......Broward County, FL has more people voting in a precinct than there are voters in the precinct in the recent election. 1028 votes, but only 930 registered voters = 110.54% turnout. http://www.bradblog.com/?p=5632 why not make it 120%, or a 150%, if you don't vote in rigged elections than you have no reason to complain about rigged elections. Broward used paperless ES&S iVo ...
Hello PBH'rs I asked GL to post this for me as I stopped back and was overwhelmed by the comments of the my friends in my defense. I wanted to thank you all for sticking up for me and also showing your true character and why I call you friends. It woudl ahve been easy to jump on the trash GIB bandwagen adn you didn't you are friends of true character and I want to say thanks. I will not be contributing to PBH through gringoloid so don't worry GL. ;) But there were so many comments I not ...
A group called the "Granny Warriors" raised the $55,600 for a vote recount in New Hampshire as a result of Ron Paul being robbed of the election and just before they were to transfer the money, PayPal mysteriously and perhaps intentionally froze the account so that the Warriors missed the deadline. You are brain dead if you think this election is not rigged. http://wonkette.com/345757/granny-warrior-paultards-shot-down-by-paypal ...
I'm seeking a 2 bedroom, 2 bath apt with swimming pool and a garage space near restaurants and stores in Poblado. Thanks in advance.
Many people here seem to like this info; if you bought any piece of jewelery with a diamond in it, you can get a piece of this class action suit. Most people will not apply so the average check goes up as a result. This is a little salvation for some of those failed gringo/colombiana marriages. http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/SmartSpending/ConsumerActionGuide/BuyADiamondGetARefund.aspx ...
After George Bushs software engineered election in 2004, there is overwhelming evidence of computer vote fraud in New Hampshire. Rep. Ron Paul who stands for everything that is against the New World Order has been robbed in the primaries. Pauls' proposed destruction of the Federal Reserve would set back the plans of the neocons/illumanati/freemasons/central bankers by at least a century. How can Paul be near the top in every straw vote and No. 1 in most of them, yet (officially) finish with b ...
So I walk out my building this morning and directly across the street there is a cajero where a man was shot to death and robbed.
He was running towards his car and they were shooting. His car looks like a Nissan Z, please correct me if I'm wrong.
there are bullet holes all over the place.

for a measly 40 grand in Panama? this is a whole lot cheaper than condo there. I need a little sunshine with some privacy to go along with it....... http://www.privateislandsonline.com/dolphin-bay-island.htm ...
don't lose that ticket that you receive when you enter a parking garage in Bogota. It may take 2 days to get your car out of there......
Last night on PBH was one of the wildest nights I've seen here. An awesome thread and a slightly eccentric OP created an incident never seen here before; by me anyway. I turn my computer on this morning and everything is all cleaned up and gone. Accounts closed, etc. Unfortunately, Morphus and Gator were not here and unbeknownst to them they were inlcuded in the melee. I would have loved to have this thread saved and shown it to them today. Another member here says that he archives ...

I'm in another fine mess and I have a question about american citizens holding foreign bank accounts. My lawyer told me that if I have a bank account in Colombia, or any other foreign country for that matter, and the total of these accounts add up to a balance of $10,000 or more, at anytime during a calender year, that I am required to fill out ¨¨Foreign Bank Account Report (Form TD F 90-22.1) ¨¨ each June. This is to be filed with the US Treasury. He says there can be serious repercu ...
Are you a gringo sitting by your webcam making marriage proposals to women you've never met in person? Have you found a lady this way and are currently selling your belongings, crating your pet, and getting ready for that first date at the airport when she picks you up? Is there a little voice in the back of your mind asking you, "are you fokkin nuts?" Scientists have developed a solution to this problem that will tell you whether the relationship will work when you've never even met th ...
