Calipro thanks for filling me in.

gringa-colombiana comments on Ode to Mad Lion - ADIOS AMIGO!

Oh, wow this is really more drama then I can handle. :) So M_L was just a second name? Who cares if the dude has a bad past. I don't know let all just talk about Colombia and get along.

gringa-colombiana comments on Ode to Mad Lion - ADIOS AMIGO!

El_feito, what do you mean he was exposed?

gringa-colombiana comments on Adive for a woman traveling alone in Colombia?

I don't understand...how people come up with these ideas La gringa is down to earth. Example, a gringa gets hit on by a random male and might stop and chat. She might not even be interested, but doesn’t want to be rude and keep walking like the guy is not worthy. A Colombiana in the same scenrio will keep walking because she feels superior and refuses to talk to someone random or might want to stop, but keeps walking because of the classification she may acquire by stopping.

Mad_lion, I don't know were in the world you get the idea that gringas are snobby bitches and Colombians are the sweet angels. A gringa is more likely to chill with anyone as she has been exposed to a diverse group of people. She is less concerned about social stratus because she is independent. In the states there is large percentage of middle class, but in Colombia there is pretty much no such thing. The elite Colombians don't talk to the lower class commoners because they are not worthy. The poor people don't care to talk to the rich because they are a bunch of hijos de ............ that do nothing except for being mommy little boy or girl.

Before I met my fiancee, I was on vacation with my cousins in Cartagena staying at the Decameron I met this guy that handle the recreational activities at the hotel, we started talking etc. due to that I had to deal with loads of crap because I was mixing with a lower class man. The same happened in Barranquilla because I dated a guy that worked at the movies and in Santa Marta when I dated a cop. These men were nice, respectful, attractive gentlemen, but because of where they worked were not deemed worthy for me to talk to them according to my elite Colombian cousins and friends.

Another thing Mad_lion not all Colombians have the dark hair etc. etc. There are a bunch of Colombians that are lighter (like me) and just as hot if not hotter. Sorry, I just had to put it out there.

gringa-colombiana comments on ok...let's hear from the ladies now.......

Lionheart, yes in Colombia you will find many women that like to be the damsel in distress. I have a very difficult time getting along with Colombian females because I feel they over do it. Some act as if they don't have a mind and they must depend on their family or a man. As a chick I feel I am more emotional than a man, but not a cry baby. Most chicks in Colombia whine and cry about everything and anything, frankly it gets boring. I am the damsel in distress with my fiancee, but other than that there is no need for it.

I agree with the comment that if a younger man had a more dominating personality it would be more acceptable in Colombia. The deal is that not all women like to be the damsel in distress so depending on the circumstances that man may not be able to be perceived as the sweet puppy dog. Basically, there has to be a place where to draw the line like in any relationship and forget about what everyone else thinks.

gringa-colombiana comments on ok...let's hear from the ladies now.......

Desi, I know what you mean about old idea die fast. I am all for equality etc. etc. , but I know my limitations. As a chick getting her B.S. in engineering I have dealt with many discriminating comments. Instead of fighting I simple show them I am just as capable.

Damsel in distress is a really cozy idea as long as it doesn't go overboard. I have my own mind and love to use, but there are somethings that although I could do I rather not. I am equal to my fiancee, but different. So I can cook and clean, but he needs to clean the yard...etc...etc Lol

gringa-colombiana comments on ok...let's hear from the ladies now.......

M_L, try not to stress, people will always find a flaw in something. If you were her age or older, then her family would probably find something else to talk about. No one is perfect and you can't please the world, so don't let the bad comments bother you.

"Nadie es perfecto hasta que te enamoras de ella." -I don't know where I have here this quote, but I think it's very true.

Reina, rock away! lol :)

gringa-colombiana comments on ok...let's hear from the ladies now.......

Just wondering.... Desi, you made the comment, "I'll have to think that one over...sounds cozy. :)" in regards to is the comment? Just wondering. Thanks

gringa-colombiana comments on ok...let's hear from the ladies now.......

In my opinion, Colombia is a chauvinistic society in which males are seen as superior. This creates the idea that women are damsels in distress in need of a man to provided security. Therefore, it is acceptable for an older man to date a younger woman because he is providing the security she is incapable of having alone.

If the man is younger than the women, he no longer will provide the safe haven, because the older women is just as stronger and knowledgeable as that man which is why it is unacceptable in Colombian society.

My brother's wife is 14 years older than him. My parents didn't oppose the dating situation because they thought he would eventually move on, but then he proposed and the entire family tried to explain to him how he was making a mistake. Well, now that we all look back what we thought was a mistake is probably the best thing that could have happened to him.

Everyone is different so what work for one may not work for another. Societies view for me is perfect because I like to be the damsel in distress to an extent. I find security in my fiancee since he is a foot taller and smarter I feel safe.

Anywayz...relationships in which the man is younger are very possible although society will impose the idea that they are not.

M_L, post the pic. :)

gringa-colombiana comments on Aura y Calipro

"Can anyone show me colombian or US laws(CP is American) that said what he's doing is illegal? If it's not illegal in front of the legal system, then why big hooopla. So why judge him with your own sense of morals. If the courts don't care, then why do you?" - Caslug

Caslug...according to what you said truth is relative and moral standards are set by government. So, there is no ultimate standard of right and wrong by which to judge.

Society (people like Caslug) are concerned with being politically correct therefore, justify immorality claiming that morals are culturally relative...(cough, cough BS).

Although, Calipro is indeed acting within the law, but his actions lack integrity. My question is if government deems genocide to be legal, does that make it acceptable? Just wondering do you agree with Hilter?

By the way, flattered in spanish is said alagado.

gringa-colombiana comments on I am not Colombian...but

Mad_lion I would have no problem posting a picture of myself expect it would probably cost me my engagment ring, because my fiancee would be so pissed.

gringa-colombiana comments on I am not Colombian...but

I can't because I'd probably try to hook up with you, lol, j/k. Sure, I think that would be nice. I think the soup you are talking about is ajiaco.

gringa-colombiana comments on I am not Colombian...but

Hooray, want part of Colombia will you be in?

gringa-colombiana comments on I am not Colombian...but

Kat1, when are you going to Colombia?

gringa-colombiana comments on Going to Barranquilla

I would love to take her to a spa, but I have no idea of any in B/quilla. I guess I can find one once I am there. I don't mind taking her to a restaurant because my table manners are superb and I am going to have to talk to her at some point. I like the idea of movies and concerts because it will give us something to talk about.

gringa-colombiana comments on Would you go back to live in Colombia?

Although, I wasn't born in Colombia, I would definetly leave my comforts in the US to go live in Colombia. The life style is so different and everything is not about money and power, people actually care more about family and friendship. I want to move and to an extent so does my fiancee, but I need to finish my undergraduate and he's almost done working on his Ph.D. so hopefully I will be able to convince him.

gringa-colombiana comments on Going to Barranquilla

I am going.... My trip is from December 9-16 leaving from Miami arriving in B/quilla.

gringa-colombiana comments on Going to Barranquilla

Elmo, thanks for bring in a new light in regards to taking la vieja to the zoo.

gringa-colombiana comments on I am not Colombian...but

Mad_lion if I wasn't engaged I'd send you a picture and ask u out, lol. My cousin is a recien llegada de B/quilla and we study at the University of Miami.

I still have a cassette with the Lambada, its been a while since I have dance to it or even heard it.

I live in South Beach, Miami.

gringa-colombiana comments on I am not Colombian...but

Mad_lion your hot, maybe cause your picture was a bit blurry. Are you from Miami?

gringa-colombiana comments on Begging for VISA help!

Mad_lion, No fraud is not funny, but the reality is its happening everyday, not that makes it acceptable. No, I don't speak from experience because I have never been married nor would I accept that kind of proposal, I consider marriage to be sacred. However, I have seen how a marriage of this kind has ended up in a suicide.

"Of course I say this with highest respect for your opinion as akward as I may find it." this comment is complete bs because your implication that I speak from experience shows your lack of respect.

I did not suggest that he go and get married. I suggested that he talk to his mother and explain the situation. Either way his mother will be shocked. I image that if he goes to his mother and unexpectedly tells her he is going to get married she might be more shocked then to tell her he needs to find a laywer and explain what is happening with his legal statue.

gringa-colombiana comments on Cali-Cartagena-Cali?

Expense My trip is from December 9-16 leaving from Miami arriving in B/quilla and it cost $440 dollars.

gringa-colombiana comments on Going to Barranquilla

Elmode, although you are by far not the most politically correct person, all the crap you say is completely real. The gap between the rich and the poor in Colombia is huge and rich people like my fiancee's mom are some stuck up bitches. I wish it was that easy to tell her to back the hell up, but I don't want to add to that aminosity. We've been together for 4 years so his mom is definetly not going to separate us, but I just want to see if "la vieja" will see my interest in trying to get along with her and understand how far my love for her little boy will go.

Thanks Miguel I had no idea that there was a zoo in B/quilla. I would take "la vieja" to play tennis or something, but I'd be tempted to beat her dumbass. I'll give the restaurants a try.

gringa-colombiana comments on Begging for VISA help!

HAHAHAHAHA!

gringa-colombiana comments on Cali-Cartagena-Cali?

Advice I purchased my ticket from Miami to Barranquilla yesterday and my advice to you would be get your ticket soon. Prices increase continously and seats around this time in Colombia are not readily available. The two airlines you should try are Avianca and AeroRepublica although I don't recommend AeroRepublica because I had a bad experience with them. Avianca might cost a few extra bucks, but its definetly worth it. You can purchase your tickets online.

Good luck

gringa-colombiana comments on Going to Barranquilla

More specific I need activities that I can do with her. Maybe a nice cool restaurant. Anything really cause when ever I go to Barranquilla I just go clubbin and obviously I can't take my fiancee mom clubbin.

gringa-colombiana comments on Going to Barranquilla

Any suggestions where I can go visit in Barranquilla?

gringa-colombiana comments on Going to Barranquilla

Lol Thanks Kat1 : )

No Elmo he is not a minor he is 27 and I am 23. She just isn't fond of the idea that her baby is getting married.

gringa-colombiana comments on Why are Colombian men so Attractive?

BxUnika, I looked at the pictures and that guy is U-G-L-Y. Some European men are meterosexual, I personally don't have a problem with it. Although, I rather be with a more manly man.

gringa-colombiana comments on Why are Colombian men so Attractive?

Some Colombian men are hot like Alejandro Pineda from La Granja, Marcelo Cezan, or my fiancée, Lol. The thing is that there are some ugly Colombian men as well like Carlos Valderrama or Mario Duarte which was Nicolas on Betty la Fea.

Attractive and ugly people are everywhere. What one might find attractive another many find ugly. As a good friend of mind always says, "one mans trash is another mans treasure." Same goes for chicks. You may find Colombians to be attractive while other women may not. This is a very general question because not all Colombians are the same. Colombians tend to be short, but my paisa fiancée is 6'2', black hair, hazel eyes, tan. I am otherwise mostly attracted white guys, but you life is weird and great and so I am now with a guy that before I would have before not acknowledge because he was not my usual type.

gringa-colombiana comments on I love Vallenatos but...

Elmo, regarding your comment to Litos,"you can’t be that bad, you’re Colombian for gods sake." LoL. Have you not seen how most cachacos dance vallenato? Los Barranquillero's definetly know how to dance vallenato way better. Vallenato is not a two step.

gringa-colombiana comments on I love Vallenatos but...

I love listening to vallenato. Vallenato does not sound the same at all. There are 4 basic types of rhythms: puya, merengue, son and paseo. The difference in these types is distinct by the pieces tempo and manner in which the instruments are played. The problem is that many of the commercialized vallenatos use the paseo because it the easiest forms of vallenato to dance. Traditional vallenato is played with an accordion, a bongo, and a guiro these instruments produce a sound which is unmatchable.

Not many people know how to dance vallenato properly. Some claim that vallenato is just a simple side to side movement, but that's not true. I guess when you dance vallenato with someone you love it starts to grow on you. I have always loved it, but became ever more found of it the first time my fiancee and I traveled to Colombia together.

The best vallenato dancers are found en la costa, they all have this distinct step, which is undescrible. A person call definetly tell the difference when dancing vallenato with a costeño and a cachacho.

Que viva el vallenato, GUPEA JE!!!!!

gringa-colombiana comments on 15 year old birthday

My 15th I told my friends that is was a celebration of my 15 years and a celebration of my transition from girl to women.

I did invite my friend’s parents because I was extremely close to most of them. As far as that goes I am not sure whether or not it is part of the tradition to invite the parents of friends.

My friends reacted elatedly because they understood that it was a big deal to me. They simply compared it to a sweet 16th. My mother, sister, grandma, and aunt gave extra help to those gringitos/as that felt apprehensive about dancing as Chambelán and Damas. I think that really set off the party since my friends were more involved everyone had a ball.

Honestly, I remember my party as the happiest day of my life. I followed the tradition of dancing the first dance (waltz) with my father which was difficult because my father is excellent at dancing the waltz. Since I am not Catholic I don't have Godparents so then I just proceeded to dance with the guys at party following the tradition. One of the most ironic things is that last guy I danced with is now my fiancee and at the moment I had no idea who he was and we never talked after that dance, he went back to Colombia (he was here on vacation) and years later we ran into each other at the university campus.

Well point being is that everything doesn't have to follow the exact pattern of other quinces, so edit and improve to make it work for your daughter.

gringa-colombiana comments on 15 year old birthday

I was born and raised in the states, but I decided that I rather have a quinceañera than a sweet 16. My family has maintained its traditions since they came from Colombia.

I am not Catholic so I didn't do the communion, but my cousin is and she did.

I think it's important to continue traditions in order to teach child about their heritage.

gringa-colombiana comments on Religion and Marriage

As a Christian Colombiana women I would not marry a Jewish man. In being Christian I have accept that Jesus died on the cross for my sin and that he resurrected. I believe in the trinity which is denied by Jews. As Christian I would never put myself in a predicament to establish a relationship with a man that doesn't believe that Jesus is the messiah because that is the to my salvation. Marrying or dating a man that doesn't believe in Jesus would be a counterproductive relationship because as Christian I want to marry a man that loves the Lord more than anything. God should be the first thing in his heart and mind and not simply good deeds.

If she is truely a Christian she will not move anywhere with you because she knows the only way to God is to accept Jesus as the way of truth.

As a Christian I don't think its permissable to marry someone who is not a Christian because I would then my be giving in to maybe teaching my kids one day things that are not acurrate.

gringa-colombiana comments on Colombian (Latin American): cheat, faithful, etc.?

Diego, I saw the movie Alfie and although I would agree with many critique that is not anywhere near the number one movie, I believe that it quite accurately portrays the reason why women expect fidelity.

Personally I thought the movie was wonderful because I saw my life as it was and why I am happy that I changed. Either way if you see it you might have a different prospective, but I believe you will be able to relate to it very well at least in part.

gringa-colombiana comments on Dancing

Have u seen.... Yes, booty dancing is rather vulgarly danced. But Colombians aren't exactly dancing to champeta any more delicately. In fact I find champeta to be alot more vulgar then reggaeton.

I just wanted to know if in Colombia reggaeton and champeta are danced the same way? because in the states they are danced differently.

gringa-colombiana comments on Dancing

I guess the reason I dance champeta in the states is because I hang out with mostly Colombians. Champeta is weird, but somewhat fun to dance.

gringa-colombiana comments on This board is getting to partisan.

Timmy, great comment..... NOT. I am shocked at your reasoning as to why women supposably want to feel suprior then men. Granted women in the states are alot more equal to men then in other countries, but we can't claim full equality yet. Women continue to be paid 75% less then men when in the same position. There is no justifiable reason for women to be paid less. Women are fighting for equality not proving men are less. If women one day become full equal to men then they might try to create an image to superiority.

Your generalizations about the states are upsurbed. Women in the south tend and midwest tend to be more affectionate than women in New York and Cali. But to claim that you deserve better because all these women can meet your requirements is hilarious. Even when you are claiming equality you still judge women in the states claiming they would not have the ability to treat you how you deserve.

Your last question concerning, if you treat a woman well shouldn't you expect the same in return. I believe you are absolutely correct. It's just that if you go into something with prejudgies about how it probably is then you will never see the truth and you only see what you trained yourself to see.

I was born in the states with Colombian parents and raised as a true Colombiana, but I really dislike the generalizations about gringas you as well as many of the other men on this board have made. Although, its quite ok because I have as well probably piss some people off and well that's life.
