Hola! The best prices are to fly on a Monday or Tuesday. I usually fly Avianca from JFK, but in July and August you may find other airlines are cheaper at that time of the year. Copa can fly her to Panama, but with its short time between flights she could miss her flight and get stuck there. Copa has not treated me well when they screwed up! Hola! If you think you are afraid of Colombia, then you better go some where else, like Canada! My GF met a guy like you online before she met me. He was told that Cali was so dangerous and he decided he would not visit. Well, I have been to Colombia 12 times to see her already and its his loss and my gain. See our baby's photo and my Spanish NOW is just good enough to say a few things!

Hola! I have heard things said by Colombians that TOTALLY would not be acceptable to be said in public in the USA. The class concept is REALLY in force there. You can see how fast a wealthy person is treated compared to regular person. I saw it even happen at Avianca at JFK. Of course, it was not appropriate in the USA, but class & racial concepts are more rigid in Colombia than the USA.

Hola! I learned that Negro is the male version of Black in Spanish. When someone looks at you in Colombia they do not say WAIT, that guy came from the USA and is not a local guy from Colombia. To expect Colombians to change their culture is rather challenging. Remember you said your ancestors fought long and hard for respect, but that happened in the USA. The culture of Colombia is not the same as in the USA, but those that know you personally will learn of your wishes on how to be addressed. If people in another country consider anyone from the USA is a Gringo, then expect it to happen. Do you know if people say of others from Africa as Colombian African? The language in Spanish may not be used to using African American. I mentioned before that people in Colombia considered me not from the USA. They would think I was German or Italian. I can not help that people in Colombia never see US citizens very often! For me, considering many bad foreign policy actions of the US government means the locals think better of me than having them think I voted for BUSH! In Cali for example, there are 2 futbol teams, Deportivo Cali and America. Of course, America is not from the USA, so locally America for a Colombian might not be USA or North American. If you know Spanish well, what is the Spanish version of what you would like to be called? Then, you use what locals think of you in their country. Their answer might make you unhappy, so expect it!

Since my Spanish is not so good, I tend to learn about Colombia via the BBC's news English website. Their Spanish version might be your competition if they ever started an English version of their content.

Hola! Do you want to an extra 12 hours on a bus to save you the price difference? Does your amount include the extra baggage fees of Spirit? Will the bus be able to handle all of your baggage easily and do you want to carry them around in Cartagena? Do not forget that you need to get to the bus station from the Cartagena airport. How long will you wait for your connection in Cartagena? That time needs to be included. Try looking at a flight directly to NC and then review your options!

Hola! You can get married in Cali or in San Andres! Cali has alot more paper work hassles. Imagine if one thing is done wrong and you are planning to get married. Remember, you need to wait 10 days after applying for the marriage license before getting married! Maybe that is a deal breaker, unless you get a power of attorney given from your future spouse to handle the paperwork before you get there? San Andres costs more, but can be much more painless and its seen as romantic also. One notary in San Andres and the law makes it so simple. Having a sunny beach is good too! I looked at visiting the Pacific Coast for a honeymoon, but still get told about it not being safe for a gringo from my fiance. Best to say the woman should be happy, but you'll have to handle all the headaches! You can visit a couple of notarios and get different prices by over 100.000 pesos!

She stated I was still after my OLD GF that I knew in Cartagena and came to the USA for 2 weeks! Yes, that was over 2 years ago! She might not go and say to her brothers to beat you up. Do not expect her to want to meet you though! Six months ago is not much really. After 2 years she might talk with you via Yahoo Messenger. If she will not talk to you online or talk on the phone, do not expect to meet her in person!

Hola! Your method is good for your washing machine as well as other uses. We found out our method would cost less than your choice, since our washing machine is not attached. It is really laughable when you give a worker an instruction manual in Spanish and they still can not install it, yet you read the English version on the other side of the document and you can do it yourself!

I will have made over 200,000 pesos on a personal loan of 800,000 pesos since March 15, if I can finally get repaid back! Well, so now it's been a hassle, but I am just down 100,000 pesos from receiving back my original principal not including the DOLLAR falling 100 pesos per dollar in that time. I am ready to go and invest in Colombian bonds! They are not looking at going bankrupt anytime soon. It sure beats $76 of interest or 1% interest!

Hola! I did that Phillipines thing already! You can not keep the flame of the relationship going when your boss wants you to work. Leave from JFK Friday night at 11 PM. Get to MNL at Sunday at 10 AM, but get to the Provinces on Monday morning. Return flight means sit in MNL 1 day, and return a day later. That means 5 days travel for 1 day visit. The telephone calls cost so much more too! Now, I leave by 6:30 AM at JFK and get to Cali by 1:00 PM of the same day! The flight costs less also to Colombia. My telephone calls are FREE. Sure San Miguel beer and Tanduay Rum are cheaper than Colombian beer and wine, but really they are like cousins. Both sell green mangoes with lime and salt on the street!

Hola! You can get another person on a USA bank account without permanent residency. I had an old GF from Colombia that had showed up on a tourist visa sign the signature card at the bank and she got on the account. The person with the SS # is the primary person responsible for the account for tax purposes anyway. Another time, I got my former wife on my USA bank account while overseas. She just faxed her passport and signature card back signed. Another branch manager would not do it, so it depends on your persistence. The law just wants the bank to know that other person is the person on the account, not that the person is a USA resident!

Hola! You could even get another bank account, so she would just be using her own money and then you could add to it online when she needs more money. The 2nd account can be in your name, if she did not sign the signature card. My bank allows Free checking, but just $3.50 to remove from an ATM machine. Various machines allow between 300,000 and 500,000 pesos per withdrawal in Cali. Citi Bank just gives us 500,000 there.
