Greg444 comments on Full 80´s Bar

If GIB says the bar sucks, then it must suck. GIB is one of the few that tells it like it is, GIB can articulate the Colombian culture better then most. Classic examples: a date ordering, without asking, a pizza to go for her family, or even beter stopping everyday a buying a sandwhich at the corner shop and giving the owner a tip each time for a year, then one day GIB is short a few coins (200-300 pesos), and the owner insist for his money. Also pointing out crime does happen, and no cop will bail you out. As far as an 80s bar, the classic music video 80s is a popular genre, 80s music is popular in Colombia and still in the US.

Greg444 comments on Bad Paisa Bad

I did not go on the date, because I had an afternoon to kill, I finished the date because I had the rest of the afternoon to kill, too late to do much else that afternoon.

Greg444 comments on When do Colombians recognize a line or no line?

There were many waiting in line at Mimos, and people just cut in line, when even the most dumbest person on earth could see that were already people waiting. examples are many

Greg444 comments on When do Colombians recognize a line or no line?

A line in a store , or information counter, entrance to someplace, etc...

Greg444 comments on Have the US economic problems , hit Colombia yet?

People in the US , can move easily , one city to another, though the real estate drop, has put a snag on that in the US. In Colombia, I think it is difficult for people to move. So who are, all these people that the ExPats are claiming are moving to Medellin? (I guess horny middle aged gringos are causing the real estate boom, NOT.) "A Colombian girl asked me , how come these middle aged gringos never walk the park with their American wife? , How come we never see them with an American wife? So when we see you , we think you are scooping for a girl."

Greg444 comments on Have the US economic problems , hit Colombia yet?

This thread was not really about real estate, but if anyone noticed by anedotal experience, things are getting tougher in Colombia. Like, a Colombia friend losing his job, rent going up, clothes going up, food going up, people sinking into debt in Colombia and now complaining, business going bankrupt or closing, articles in newspapars saying the party is over in Colombia, etc....

Greg444 comments on Ex Pats getting their ass kicked on their real estate

First of all, I am talking about residential real estate. Colombians are the thiftiest people in the world (I used the nicest term), Colombians will not pay a pesos over the wholesale cost for anything. Let me repeat this in bold type, so you never forget "COLOMBIANS WILL NOT PAY ONE PESOS OVER WHOLESALE". A new progressive scan DVD player , bought at Target for $24.95, I could not get more then $50 mil for it Colombia. A new 15.7" laptop ACER, w/DVD read/write, etc. I bought at Office Depot for $399 (incl rebate), you would be lucky to get 6-700,000 pesos for it in Colombia. My friends and I have alist a mile long. BUT WE are supposed to believe gringos can down and buy condos and fincas and resell them to Colombians for a profit. Not only do they have to sell them , then the Expats have to convert back to US dollars, also pay any fees and taxes on the sale. Come ' on get real, GringoinBogota, knows what I mean. An offer does not mean shit in Colombian, on even a contract, Colombia is a cash in the hand transaction place esp for expats. One expat , I know , paid our $120k, for a finca, some trouble with the title trf parework did not happed right. he is out 120k , he says, its been a year. Also there is still a BAD employment problem in Colombia and Medellin, we are supposed to believe the expats, when they say Colombians are buying the condo and fincas like crazy, I am making a profit. Its all bullshit , the expats are trying to unload to niave gringos better believe. Yeah, a flood of horny middle aged gringos, does not a real estate boom make.

This visit was in June, and it was not a Holiday weekend.

Greg444 comments on I prefer the old board format

This new format is so bad , I think people will start dropping off. It looks like a board from late 90s or 2000.

Greg444 comments on Xchange rate now 2.00, all those real estate gurus getting their asses kicked now

I reference was to now trying unloading your condo to a sucker gringo for US$$$. (Your source just dried up)
Also Colombians I ahve known for many years are some of the cheapeest, shrewdest people on Earth. You will not sell condo now at a good pesos value.

It is a one way street, you will not recoup your money back into US$$.

Greg444 comments on Utility Rates in Poblado

Tejamarcos, Why not put the link up again, to fotos of the place, you said was worth $314,000 USD???

Greg444 comments on for you real estate investors

This one looked like 80-100k USD, from the photos posted.

Greg444 comments on for you real estate investors

Sorry it looks like Tejamarcos yanked off the link showing all the photos to the apt. . The post was there last night , but now the post is gone. It had about 12 photos, on its own website.
He must have had moderater pull it.

It was thread, dated 3/28, with about 5-6 posts, and someone was just about to make an offer on it to Tejamarcos, for $600 a month including utilities. Tejasmarco said OK if you took it for at least 3 months.

Greg444 comments on for you real estate investors

Take look at Tejamarcos apt , which he says, can sell for $313,000 USD.
The link to the fotos are in the PBH rent page.
I doubt anyone would pay $313,000 USD for it.

Sorry it looks like Tejamarcos yanked off the link showing all the photos to the apt. . The post was there last night , but now the post is gone.

Greg444 comments on for you real estate investors

Lets not mix apples with oranges, Tejasmarcoa is implying he could have bought a apt for $269,230 USD nine months ago, now sell it for $318,181. Aztec says he will pay Colombian taxes on this profit, he mentions 46%. I suppose some gringo would go now today and buy an apt in Colombia for $318,181 USD , but I doubt it.

Can enough horny single middle aged gringos create a permanent real estate boom in Colombia ?, I doubt it. I do not see people moving from all over the world with their families and children to Colombia. Even Colombians in the US, who like Colombia, do not want to move their family back to Colombia.

Greg444 comments on for you real estate investors

Robi left out a bunch of crap:
First of all no Colombian would have paid the new high price, you would have to find a sucker gringo to unload at that high price.
What Colombia has no taxes on this profit?
Also fees or taxes to transfer the money back to US ?

Don Gringo articulated perfectly the problme with these Colombian women. How rude to just order another pizza to go, what a perfect sign telling you to dump her, as it a sign of what of what you have to look forward to.
An American girl would never be so rude.

The Colombiana will not go out with you to such and such place, but if it was a really nice place she says yes !!!!!!! Dump her as fast as you can. There is no future with this woman.

DonGringo gives great advice.

Greg444 comments on Scarface - new DVD Edition

"YOU expect ME to believe they are Bolivians, JUST BECAUSE SOSA SAYS SO?!!!"

Greg444 comments on Scarface - new DVD Edition

I do not recall any reference to Bolivia, whether it is or not, 99% of the people who watch that movie will assume most are Colombians.

Greg444 comments on I PROTEST!!!

Podborski, better hire 12 , if you need to be sure to have 8 for work.

Greg444 comments on Flipping apartments in Colombia?

There are only so many gringos you can rip-off trying to sell over priced condos in Colombia. Colombians are too shrewd , to ever go for anything priced one pesos above wholesale prices. That one person above is set-up for a fall with his three condos.

Greg444 comments on Medellin Rock Clubs ??? Little Tired of Electronic and Regatone

They probably think you are one of the gringos from US, down for prepagos. The US gringos have a terrible reputation in that city.

Greg444 comments on A Recent Home(house) Purchase In North Bogota-- Price $35,000

SantaFe mall is way way up there in the north end suburbs, would take an hour more by taxi to bet to Andino, 35 minuttes in light traffic.
That is why it is cheap.

Basicallly it is far from most evrything.

Greg444 comments on Jobs in Medellin

Teaching English sucks Lets put this idea to rest once and for all, easy to talk about, bit ever try to tech English? ever see an actual class in Colombia? You know what times he classes are? Most times are when Colombians have free time early in the morning 7am , or 7pm, or Saturdays and Sundays, you want to work those shitty times? Anyway you will probably go nuts after 2 weeks , let alone try doing it for a year.

Idea goes BUST.

Greg444 comments on Sex Mongers in Medellin

I wonder if those gringos are the same millionaire gringos, from a year ago, still trying to find a girlfriend or maybe Pablo returned.
But those guys were not that old (40s), Skippy how old were these gringos?

Greg444 comments on Gringo killed at a ATM in Medellin?

OK, apparently this guy was just shot and did not die. Still nerve endings sometimes never come back, or infections set in.
Medellin, still the most over-rated city in Colombia , in my opinion. Where people live in adjunct poverty 5-10 minutes from Poblado. I guess if they have not taken a stand by now, they never will. Oh well, thats Colombia.

Greg444 comments on Gringo killed at a ATM in Medellin?

I am not sure , I think it late afternoon or twilight hours, I do not have any more info except that it was not daytime hours,
and it happened a week or so ago.

Greg444 comments on RENT A ROOM IN NORTH BOGOTA

Well done Patio13, seems like an excellent choice for people.

Also thank you for not over charging gringos, like JimC (CaliPenthouse) and PeteE, and others do, who try to rip off gringos by charging US American prices in Colombia.

Greg444 comments on For Rent: Penthouse in Cali

I wonder if Jim was able to unload his Cali "penthouse" to some sucker gringo, before it dropped 30% in value over the last few weeks.
And only going down further.
Jim must have seen the writing on the wall months ago, and PeteE should have known better as such an expert on real estate and finances living in Colombia.

Greg444 comments on INVESTING IN COLOMBIA - MY EXP....

You are allowed to bring in up to 10,000 USD , at least according to the customs form.

So why not fly down with $9000 in 100s, then your wife flys down with $9000. then you each make another round trip a week or so later, again at $9000 USD each in 100s.

If you fly back and forth 5 or 6 times, it should give the $75,000 USD to buy the condo in cash, no taxes.

Or am I missing something?

I fly to Colombia every 3 weeks, never been questioned or searched. 50 flights over the past 4 years.

PS- $9000 in 100s is a very small packet, split up it easily fit anywhere on you. I saw many a Colombians, flying back to he US , pull a wad of 100s USD at American Airlines counter checkin in Bogota.

Greg444 comments on Do Colombians know the meaning of a line??

Who has the right of way in traffic? I see cars merge in traffic , but there seems no logic to who has the right of way. In the US the is clearly a car that has the right of way.

Surprisely I see very few accidents, even though they get so close.

Also , many times a driver approaching an intersection and having to make a right hand turn, he will go all the way to the inside lane and now gets bowed in trying to get to get back to the outside lane to make a RIGHT HAND TURN. Why not just STAY in the outside lane, you only have 30 yards to go until you reach the intersection to turn right. This has happened many many times.

Greg444 comments on FOR RENT:FURNISHED STUDIO IN CALI

This is what gringos should go for, not the rip-off prices that some other gringos try to charge gringos.

Some gringos with condos in Colombia, try to charge $45 US a NIGHT!!!!!!!!

Greg444 comments on What day is the election? When is the city closed down?

Yes Friday , Sat and Sunday.
I was the worst 3 days of a vacation I've ever had.
And you are basically in house arrest on Sunday, as you could not get a cab, at least in Cali that day 4 years ago.
But everyone is walking in the streets that day, street vendors have a heyday selling ice cream etc....
The discos were all closed Friday and Saturday.

Greg444 comments on What day is the election? When is the city closed down?

I remember Friday they stop selling liquor , so Friday and Saturday are dead as all the discos are closed. Many restarrant closed or empty for the same reason.
n Sunday it is impossible to get a cab as the taxi drivers do not work, or the ones that work have been allocated to the govt to drive poor people to the vote polls.

Greg444 comments on Interview with software developer in Cali

Yes the 800,000-1,700,000 a month is correct, but the real killer is having to work on Saturdays and late past 6pm on weekdays.
That axed it for me, very few people have a lot of free time in Colombia , so getting to know people and hang out, like here in the US, is actually more difficult in Colombia.
By Sunday, many women are so burnt out, they just rest on Sunday.
Life is good on Colombia only for a select few, overall, life is much more enjoyable in the US.

Greg444 comments on Costs in Colombia LONG

OK PeteE good info.
100% correct fast food is about 50% more in Colombia, a US Taco Bell would blow away any Colombian fast food joint.

And yes Colombians really have a problem with pizza, don't they understand the term tomato sauce?

But Colombians have something even better soupa "Ajiago", really good: chicken , potatoes, rice.
And Colombian choice of fruits is great.

Greg444 comments on Another doubt about Colombia: security hassles

Oh, I have already been to Colombia several times, I just think it is very strange , Colombians touted as happy, loving, caring, friendly people vs all the security, armed security guards everywhere, imbedded broken glass walls, metal bars, dead bolt locks,etc...

I agree the people are freindly. BUT, seems like a disconnect, or a hidden undercurrent exists in the Colombian's true personalties, otherwise you not see all this.

Greg444 comments on Another doubt about Colombia: security hassles

Nope have not seen it in the US, Rubiazo.

But, I have seen 20 acre parks with free access, plenty of different fields, people leaving their bikes and cars unlocked, walkmans and other stuff laying around, and enjoying a full day without much thought of theft.

Greg444 comments on Search: Apt in Medellin, 4-5 wks

Greg444 comments on Colombians tell me not to live in Colombia

Back to my original question, which I poorly posted. My Colombian friends say do not move to Colombia becasue going to the restaurants and nightclubs wears thin after a few months, and say they I have many more things to do in the US on weekends then in Colombia, riding bike on the beach, or though the hills, tennis, golf, easy cheap travel by car, entertainment facilties and parks much larger, etc...

Greg444 comments on Colombians tell me not to live in Colombia

The two millionare gringos I know in Medellin , are not doing prepagos, they are just not getting anything lasting in Medellin, even though they are trying. How many 44, 47 year old men want to be alone? They are trying , but after they screen out the prepagos they are not getting any kind of longterm relationship going.

If I had to guess, in general Paisas do not really care about gringos, especially in Poblado area.

Greg444 comments on Colombians tell me not to live in Colombia

Well these gringos are trying hard , but cannot find a women in Medellin that is interesed in them. They seem like nice guys, maybe they have to worry about protecting their money.
Its seems like a party city to me.
I did not see Pablo, so maybe he found a woman or just left.

Huge disparity in economics, you just go about 5 to 10 minutes in the Metro and people are living in shacks along the river and mountain side. I am surprised there has not been a revolution or more violence with such a huge wealth disparity. At least in Bogota the economics are more level and the women are more open internationally and sophisticated.

Greg444 comments on

I did not the tax rate was so high. In discussions with people in Colombia , I sais I was only get to keep about 75% of my salary and they were shocked. It appeared about 5% was the rate in Colombia.

Greg444 comments on Colombians tell me not to live in Colombia

Yes, these millionare gringos are looking for a wife, i saw the same ones two years ago, they even go to marriage agencies in Medellin.
in fact their whole lives appear to revolve around finding a women.

What was really strange was one gringo actually bought and lived with a Paisa for over a year , just to make sure, as soon as they went back to the US , to Orlando, it fell apart.

Unfortunately I mixed two subjects on one post, but what my Colombia friends were trying to get at, was nice discos/eating places are boring after a few months, do not move.
Where I live I can mountain bike, surf, go to the beach, hike, play golf, etc.. any weekend I want, my Colombian friends just shake their heads and don't move.
