My dad was a military guy for 18 years and stationed off the coast of Nam twice. Even he agrees: you can not ever win a war in Afganistan. The terrain is insane. I understand the challenge of containing terrorism. But,... you're just gonna get stuck in a quagmire, losing life after life, to no avail in Afganistan. And, why they - anyone - even talk about changing their form of government.... I'll never understand.

I don't really think so, ken. The problem/solution is simple: Someone (that cares) needs to locate or solidify the airline policy. If I had known what the policy was,.... I would have said 'yes' or 'no' accordingly, and would have followed through.

here's what happened,-Bill. My position, at whatever rate. I agreed, if I could be assured that it was 'no problem' to take the chair on the plane, by the airline policy, that I'd do it. It would have been my pleasure to have helped some poor soul in Colombia. This was last March, 2009. Quite frankly, I didn't have time then, to research all this for myself. No one followed up, with Airline Policy, at the time. Lisa had some chairs. Lisa's pretty basicly, ... A GOOD PERSON. Good of her, to have obtained some wheelchairs, to be taken to Colombia. It is NOT to her blame, that I nor anyone else really was aware or could inform me of Airline Policy. Now, let's fast forward, hypothetically: Lisa sends me the chair.... I take it to New Orleans, two hours from my home.... the airlines tell me I can't take it on the plane.....it's the last minute and... NO BODY TO TAKE CARE OF THE DAMN CHAIR! I AM FORCED TO LEAVE IT IN NEW ORLEANS: Now, we are minus one wheelchair. I wasn't going to be willing to take the heat for that. No fokn way. So, .. stupid move, if I say, 'send the chair, and I'll take it', and then it gets left in the airport. NOW, SOME ONE HERE DID, IN FACT SUGGEST THAT I PRETEND TO BE CRIPPLED,... AND NEEDED THE CHAIR FOR MYSELF. I DON'T PLAY THOSE SORT OF GAMES IN MY LIFE. You can wear that sort of karma on your own life. Not me, on mine. Not for some poor, crippled Colombiano... not for anyone. Based on my last trip last month to Bogota, I remember seeing some 'specific signs' in the airport, either in Miami or, I believe, in New Orleans, about a very simple policy regarding wheelchairs. I'm usually not very early, nor very late, when traveling, just... run about 'on time', and didn't take time to memorize the sign, but remember thinking, "Hey, that sounds favorable to the Pbh Wheelchair Program. Nuff Said,-Bill?

there are three points I'd like to make: 1) If I'd known ahead of time, or.... if the people who put this "project (?)" together would have had information ahead of time, I would have happily taken a wheelchair to Colombia this past March. (some of us work.... sometimes, 10 hours a day or more) 2) There are signs up in the airports, now. .... about 'taking wheelchairs on the planes'. Maybe they were there last March, but I was AWARE of them last month when going to Bogota. And, the sign I remember speed reading was something to the affect that it was not a problem to take a wheel chair on the plane with you. No extra fees. Nada. 3) There are likely many needy folks right here in American (north! of course) who NEED wheelchairs..,.. So, why are we taking them to Colombia and getting Miguel_Clavo's panties all in a bunch about it HERE ON THIS THREAD???? When likely, their is a wheelchair maker RIGHT THERE, SOMEWHERE IN COLOMBIA,... making big bucks..... sellling wheelchairs. 4) Where is the CHARITABLE ENTITY in...within Colombia, tending to these needs??? so we don't have to concern ourselves from a thousand or two miles away about taking freakin wheelchairs to Colombia??

yeah,... .it would be fun, simonito. You really wear a chip on your shoulder, don't you. You remind me of some of the people in undergraduate school, who were from fokn Arkansas, or some other little places in the USA..... I'd lived in about 14 different places all across the united states, and knew that each place had it's own unique beauty... but all these other people who had only lived in one or two places were always telling you how great their homeland was. So,..... sometimes, simon, I jus wish you'd go to hell.
