I just spent a weekend in Poznan, Poland and I'll tell you if I wasn't married already I'd be considering spending more time there and it's not for the weather or architecture :) something about my exotic color - similar effect in Sweden when I was in Stockholm for a few nights as well but the Poles are a bit more aggressive in their approach :)

when I brought my TV through bogota I said it was for personal use and they didn't charge me any taxes - i did have a receipt with me and it was over $1500... anyways at most you pay 20% on anything over $1,500 so just bring it and you'll be fine...

Thought I'd share my experience with the skype world product (includes colombia land lines)... my wife can now spend hours on the phone with mi suegra and all her friends without having to worry about the bill... good quality and simple to signup for - two thumbs up.

I did it last year but you actually wire it to a citibank account in the US under the name of bancolombia and in the details field you'll fill out the bancolombia acct. to deposit to, recipient etc... then your dad goes to the bank and gets the funds... an easier option is to send your pops an ATM card and let him go withdraw it

telmex may not let you have internet without the TV package but I just hack the telefonica sat. feed (I get both telefonica/telmex feeds) and just pay for the internet/local phone...

well it took us about 6 months to receive that letter... however from what I understand you should actually receive one within 2 months of the papers arriving... PS. it's now officially 1 year and counting since we started the paperwork... 10 months and counting since the papers have been in Bogota... and based on what the MP said another 3-4 months... so sit tight however a friend of mine surprisingly got their papers done in less than a year... who knows - maybe I'd join the 5,000 colombians daily and line up at the US embassy...

I recall when avianca.com sold me a ticket to a flight that didn't exist (they fat-fingered their schedule on the system)... many many emails and 3 months later I got a free national flight on Avianca for my troubles... keep blasting them I say - it's about time corporate employees start taking some pride and ownership in their company
