Cerulean and Golden-winged Warbler Summit in Colombia

A bit of a specialist subject, but I though that readers might be interested that Colombia is hosting this interntaional summit. It is in Bogota and San Vicente de Chucurí, Santander. I believe it is the first time the town of San Vicente has hosted an international conference, and shows that Colombia is becomign not just a tourist destination, but also hosting more international conferences. There is a lot of concern in North America and Colombia about the decline of these beautiful birds wh ...

Bad Traffic Delays near Magdalena River Bridge at La Dorada (Caldas)

I have been hearing reports of very bad traffic delays due to bridge repairs at La Dorada. We last sent a party on this route on July 5th and it was not too bad at all (less than 1 hr delay). But maybe they were just lucky because apparently there have been news reports of delays of up to 6-7 hours. Has anyone any reliable information on how bad the delays are, or whether they are worse on some days or times of day than others? Thanks ...

My mother's one and only trip to Colombia

My mother is suffering from pancreas cancer and probably doesn't have too long. But she has always wanted to go with me to Colombia and we are going at the weekend, at the expense of skipping one chemo session. We are going to some of the most amazing places in the countryside that I think some of you city dwellers who know Colombia much better than me don't know about. I will keep you posted how it goes. ...

Ecolodges at San Rafael next to Tayrona

I have read some stuff on the internet about these but can anyone give a telphone number to book accomodation there, or even better has anyone actually stayed there. The tourism office in Santa Marta seems not to know about them. There must be somewhere in or next to Tayrona that one can stay for about 80,000 to 100,000 pesos per person per night that is nice, soemthing between the luxury ecohabs and hammocks? Thanks ...

Best hotels in Bogota and Medellin

What are the best hotels to stay for 1-2 nights? My mother is terminally ill with a short time to live and I desperately hope she can visit Colombia before she dies. Obviously we will spend most of the time in the countryside to see the nature reserves (especially El Dorado above Santa Marta which is one of the nicest places in Colombia IMO, I am amazed Pete has not put a review of it on this site) but we need somewhere really nice to stay in Bogota and Medellin. No point in anything very osten ...

Hotel in Cisneros, Antioquia please

I need to find a hotel in or near Cisneros (on road 62 about 80km East of Medellin) for a tour group to stay for one night next month. Just somewhere clean and comfortable up to about 30,000 pesos per person. Has anyone got any recommendations? ...

Voluntary Translation Help Required

I am helping to promote ecotourism in Colombia through a company I have set up, which gives all its profits to support a Colombian conservation charity.
Generally things are going very well, but we are desperately short staffed as the interest has increased, and it would be really great to have someone who has a couple of hours spare help translate some of the website. We have bits on the English site that need translating into Spanish and vice versa, though the Spanish-English translatio ...

Ecotourism

I am thinking of visiting Colombia next month to start an ecotourism company. The idea is that the company will be run commercially but donate most of its profits to a Colombian NGO that we will work closely with.
It is great to see how much Colombians now appreciate their enormous biodiversity and are keen to conserve it. However bringing in more revenue from internal and external tourists that want to enjoy the beauty and wildlife of this country will help to underpin this.
Has ...
